I am an experienced violinist and violist and music educator, who loves working with adult beginners. I have been teaching for over 20 years, and performing professionally for over 30 years. Are you an adult who has always wanted to play the violin but was never able to? Were you told you were too old or that it was too late? Maybe you want to revisit the instrument you gave up as a youngster. I can help you get back on track. I can give you the skills and confidence you will need to accomplish your goals. I am also gifted in strengthening the skills of those who have already had some experience playing violin and/or viola, but would like to improve, no matter your age. I can help young students prepare for all state and all county competitions. My lessons are laid back, personable, and enjoyable.

I love sharing my passion for music through teaching. To me, music should be a conduit of self-expression—it is not merely something we do, but rather who we are. While there are many great players who have perfected the technical elements of their craft, it is the greatest musicians who find a way to speak through their art. I strongly believe that we all have the potential to speak through our music, and that the right teacher can inspire that in a student. I hope I can be that teacher for you.

I work with students on both the craft and creative side of music in an enthusiastic and nurturing environment. This approach is aimed at awakening a student's drive to explore their own musical path both inside and outside the lesson. Within a lesson, we will work on (1) instrumental technique and basic music theory, very important aspects to us as players, and (2) improvisation/composition and having creative musical discussions, which are invaluable to us as creatives. Congratulations! I mean it! Looking for violin lessons is a big step, and the first to achieving your goals as a budding musician.

In your lessons with me, you will first learn proper set-up and technique, and we will mainly work from the Suzuki method books. Additionally, I will provide you with various scales, exercises, and "fun pieces" as you progress. I wholeheartedly believe that learning the violin should be enjoyable, and not a chore. So, wherever you are at with current skill level, and whatever your motives are for taking lessons, you can rest assured that we will have a great time together!

I use a hybrid approach of Suzuki and string method books with my violin and viola students. Rhythm/note reading is taught as well as how to create a beautiful tone. Familiar songs are played starting on the first day! I also conduct a string orchestra and students are encouraged to join after achieving a certain level of proficiency to enjoy the benefits of performing with others.

My name is Araya and I have over ten years of experience playing the violin. Aside from teaching, I am a songwriter and a musician. I am also learning to play the guitar and piano.

I have played in local orchestras such as The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon.

I specialize in teaching beginner violin. Laying a solid foundation is super important in my lessons. I will teach you how to read music if you don’t already know how to. We will also cover music theory, scales, and different finger and bowing techniques.
