Sheila was so friendly, and did a great job pushing me to work hard, but in a gentle, friendly way. I had a lot of fun in the lessons! I went in with no real knowledge of the fiddle, and came out with a great experience. I definitely recommend her!

Sarah E.

Tempe, AZ

My training in violin and viola comes from distinguished performers in the classical music community. I have studied with Nicholas Cords (of Brooklyn Rider), Lawrence Dutton (of the Emerson String Quartet), Karen Ritscher, Brett Deubner, and Nancy Buck. My teachers have been taught by some of the most eminent string pedagogues of their generation, including Dorothy Delay, Karen Tuttle, Lilian Fuchs, Harvey Shapiro, and Heidi Castleman. This broad survey of teaching styles and philosophies gives me a great breadth of knowledge which I apply to all of my students.

Whether it be beginners, who are just learning the basics of sound production and proper posture, or advanced students, who are preparing for solo competitions or orchestral and chamber performances, my students will feel empowered and strengthened by their studies with me.

I hold the same approach for all my students at any level. All my violin students will:
-be empowered by their violin technique, through diligent

About Sarah

Hi, my name is Sarah and I would love to teach you to become a better musician.

I began teaching at the Nevada Blind Children's Foundation as a piano instructor in my senior year of high school. Since then, I have taught as a music teaching assistant at Stony Brook University and a violin, viola, and cello teacher at Music & Arts in Mount Sinai.

I am currently the viola studio teaching assistant under Professor Nancy Buck at the Arizona State University School of Music.

I aim to teach my students more than just the basics. My students should expect to master: how to play their instru
ment most efficiently, body awareness, relaxed and proper posture, musicality and thoughtful phrasing, some aspects of music theory and ear training, stage presence, and more.

Most importantly, I will help my students grow more confident in their musical abilities. My goal is to help nurture my students' musical talents and help them grow into their potential.

Kathryn taught my children in home as well as a chosen location. Kathryn was always prepared and interacted well with my children. She would challenge my children with their music. They learned from your many talents. Thank you Kathryn for all of your patience and sweet kindness. We were sad that you moved away but we are excited for you to be close to your family again.
