Dee F.

Scottsdale, AZ

I have been an orchestra director for a school district for 7 years and teach beginning through advanced violin; specialize in theory, various genres including classical, jazz.

About Dee

*** Travel Equipment ***
Books. Students must have their own instrument (keyboards are acceptable for taking piano lessons). I always council students on brand, quality of instrument they are purchasing before they buy it.

*** Specialties *** I have been a public school music educator for over 20 years, and have taught band, orchestra, and choir which enables me to teach many instruments and voice. I also have been a language and reading tutor for over 6 years and have worked with students with special needs for over 10 years.
I studied classical guitar with master guitarist, Christo
pher Parkening, at Montana State University where I graduated with a B.M.E. I also did graduate work at MSU in composition. I teach Suzuki piano and violin. I am an accomplished composer/songwriter with many published and recorded songs and instrumental works through ASCAP. I endeavor to make learning fun, and enjoy teaching students of all ages!

Dee is working with three of my kids. My two daughters are learning guitar. She makes it fun and meaningful by teaching them songs they are familiar with right away. She is easy to work with, calm and patient. I recommend her to anyone.

Dee is incredibly patient and caring with my son AND me. Not only is he new to playing, but I am very busy and somewhat disorganized. Not to mention all the siblings wandering about the house. She is easy to work with and a joy for the whole family.

Sarah E.

Tempe, AZ

My training in violin and viola comes from distinguished performers in the classical music community. I have studied with Nicholas Cords (of Brooklyn Rider), Lawrence Dutton (of the Emerson String Quartet), Karen Ritscher, Brett Deubner, and Nancy Buck. My teachers have been taught by some of the most eminent string pedagogues of their generation, including Dorothy Delay, Karen Tuttle, Lilian Fuchs, Harvey Shapiro, and Heidi Castleman. This broad survey of teaching styles and philosophies gives me a great breadth of knowledge which I apply to all of my students.

Whether it be beginners, who are just learning the basics of sound production and proper posture, or advanced students, who are preparing for solo competitions or orchestral and chamber performances, my students will feel empowered and strengthened by their studies with me.

I hold the same approach for all my students at any level. All my violin students will:
-be empowered by their violin technique, through diligent

About Sarah

Hi, my name is Sarah and I would love to teach you to become a better musician.

I began teaching at the Nevada Blind Children's Foundation as a piano instructor in my senior year of high school. Since then, I have taught as a music teaching assistant at Stony Brook University and a violin, viola, and cello teacher at Music & Arts in Mount Sinai.

I aim to teach my students more than just the basics. My students should expect to master: how to play their instrument most efficiently, body awareness, relaxed and proper posture, musicality and thoughtful phrasing, some aspects of music theor
y and ear training, stage presence, and more.

Most importantly, I will help my students grow more confident in their musical abilities. My goal is to help nurture my students' musical talents and help them grow into their potential.

Brian M.

Tempe, AZ

Students in this area will receive extensive instruction on musicality, the fundamentals of reading/interpreting musical notation/symbols, comfortable and physically healthy approaches to holding the instrument and practicing effective posture, as well as performance techniques. Most beginners will start from the Suzuki series. Lessons are custom tailored and planned according to the individual student and his/her individual needs. What do you want to learn, and what do you hope to gain from our time together? These questions are among my top priorities when starting with a new client. All levels (including advanced) are included in this category (see lessons for Audition Preparation as well).

About Brian

After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance (Violin) from the artistically vibrant and widely recognized music program at Central Washington University, I traveled to the nationally recognized Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University where I am currently in my 2nd year of my Master's Degree in Music. I have been teaching both in-home and in a professional capacity since 2005. Having personally prepared many auditions, I have both experiential and technical advice to offer intermediate to advanced players. Music theory and its ap
plications is another one of my passions and I am always excited to share this knowledge in all instrumental lessons, which include both violin and viola. Lessons through this website will be held at the School of Music at ASU in the practice room facilities which are secured with card-key access, and are very private and comfortable. All styles of playing are welcome! Beginners are usually started on the Suzuki program.
I also have experience teaching at the incredibly successful and internationally acclaimed LindaMood-Bell Learning Processes where I worked with children K-12+ on phonemic awareness and reading comprehension, knowledge which would be a perfect match for anyone looking to enhance their child's reading skills (many of the clients I have worked with were diagnosed with learning abilities before enrolling, and all showed significant progress after completing the program).

My six year old son with no musical experience desperately wanted a violin for Christmas. Santa brought him one and we needed someone to teach him how to use it. We started taking lessons in January with Brian and he was extremely patient with a curious child who had many questions, not all about music and the violin. My son has progressed well and looks forward to his weekly lessons with Mr. Brian.

Brianna L.

Tempe, AZ

I have been playing the violin for 14 years and teaching for 7 years. My curriculum includes a heavy emphasis on sound quality and correct, relaxed technique, followed by musicality and a well rounded music education. My goal is for students to be well versed not only in how to play violin, but also be knowledgeable in music history and theory. I believe that students should enjoy their music lessons while utilizing their individual learning style. I am strict, but also fun!

About Brianna

I am a recent graduate from the University of Idaho. I earned my degree in Instrumental Music Education and have been teaching privately for 7 years. My main instrument is violin, but I took to other instruments very fast and am very qualified to teach viola, cello, clarinet and saxophone. Before moving to Arizona, I taught many violin students through my own private studio and through the University of Idaho Preparatory Division. My students ranged from ages 3 to 50. I currently teach private instrumental lessons to grades 2-8 at a private school and work at an after school program at a chart
er school. The majority of my experience is with students age 3 through 8th grade.
