I have been playing and teaching professionally for over ten years. I love to play in all styles, from classical to jazz to rock & roll. I have been playing guitar and singing with a blues rock band for over 6 years now, and have had much experience writing songs and performing live. I have also had my classical compositions performed live by local orchestras and have had some of my music featured in commercials. Recently, I have put together an album of piano and synthesizer based instrumentals.
Lesson plans are based entirely on the student. Whether the student wishes to begin just learning the songs they enjoy, decides to delve into a long term theory based program, or even both, I can create a lesson plan catered to their personal needs.
I specialize in rock & roll and all the of the music that it is built upon. Anything from
blues to country to R&B to bluegrass is something I have a strong fascination and background with. I am also extremely well versed in college level music theory, and have helped many students prepare for their AP Music Theory tests.
Students will learn proper piano technique as to play comfortably and with ease. Warm-ups will help the student to prepare the hands to play on the keyboard. Students will learn piano pieces that will develop they're playability and reading of piano music.
Having an ear for music of all styles and genres, I had an interest in playing music and instruments at a very young age. At just 5 years old, I took my first piano lesson. I studied with that piano teacher for another 10 years, working on technique, theory and classical music, including playing piano recitals as a performer. I practiced piano to become a solo classical musician. Then in middle school, I joined the symphonic band where I was exposed and learned to play instruments in the percussion section, including drums, xylophone and marimba, and other instruments. At the same time, I joined the middle school jazz band. This was my first transition both as a piano player and musician into a new genre of music and playing. Needless to say, I fell in love with the music. In 2005, I auditioned and was the only pianist accepted into the c
lassical piano department in the School of the Arts High School of San Francisco. There I went through rigorous classical training and learned vast amounts of repertoire. At the same time, I still studied and played jazz in the high school Big Band, Latin Jazz band and small jazz combo. It was during this time that I deeply focused on not only Jazz music and improvisation, but also Salsa, Latin Jazz, R&B, Funk, Pop. Basically all other forms and styles of music. I learned what it means to be in a band and how to make an ensemble sound good and to make an audience like and cheer for the music. I was lucky to have bands and musicians to play with all around San Francisco, including jazz festivals.
After graduating as the only student to study in the Piano department for 4 years in my graduating class, I was accepted with scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. I started my first semester in 2009, and declared a Piano Performance and Jazz Composition Dual Major in 2010. At Berklee, I studied under amazing piano teachers to focus on my jazz playing and technique and repertoire. Some of the classes I took included music theory, ear training, composition and arranging, scoring and analysis, even guitar and bass labs. As well, I was the main piano player for the Berklee Salsa Ensemble for 3 straight years. I was also involved with bands and playing recitals, shows, clubs, outdoors and indoor venues throughout Boston and Massachusetts. I had the honor of being hired by Berklee to travel and play along with other selected students at the Carnaval de Barranquilla honoring Joe Arroyo. This was the most memorable musical experience for me yet, as I played along great musicians for hundreds of people in a theater, including Joe Arroyo sharing the stage with the band.
All of this experience and training is what I bring to my lessons and tutoring sessions. I teach my students how to prepare themselves for any kind of musical situation, from music theory and technique, to piano playing and repertoire, and understanding and playing all kinds of styles and genres of music. Most of all, I teach my students to be unique in their musical endeavors and to bring out their own voice through music. And the most important element of all, the happiness and joy it brings to the students and others.
*** Lesson Details *** In my piano and music lessons, you will be learning music theory, proper piano technique, ear training, sight reading, and repertoire. It will be up to the student to determine what genre and style of music they want to learn and study. It can be anything from classical music, jazz, or even Funk and R&B music and more. My students will also develop an ear, meaning that instead of only focusing on written material and music in sheet music format, they will learn to hear intervals and chords, and also play or sing back melodies.
My teaching style is very easy to get along with. I don't pressure or push students by being too strict. When learning music, being hard and strict gets the student nowhere. I approach the student with listening and understanding. It's my job to see the students advantages and keep them strong, as well as working on bringing up weaknesses and what's needed to make the student excel in both playing technique, and all other musical aspects.
When it comes to proper piano technique, I always teach my students with "Hanon, the Virtuoso Pianist in sixty excercises", and "Scales, Chords & Arpeggios" by James Bastien. After 3-6 months as my student, you will progress in your technique skills, ear training, repertoire and memorization

Please note: I only accept weekly lesson students. Also, due to my performances, I'm not always able to this calendar up to date....so when you request a lesson time, allow me to communicate with you, if we need to adjust it a bit. It almost always works out if you don't mind doing that.

Please have an assignment book that lies flat, and keep it next to your music books as you practice between lessons. My instructions are very detailed to insure your best progress.
Studio Equipment For on-line lessons, you will need a quiet place, and please test your sound and video prior to beginning of lesson. For students under 13 or so, do have a parent or caregiver taking notes while we work together.
Specialties I have much experience with various learning styles, and in fact, am featured in a documentary made of one of my autistic students.
Stephanie is one of the best teachers you can possibly find through Takelessons. We are extremely fortunate to have found her. She is a successful professional musician who is very strict yet with a kind heart and skills/experiences to steer students through their learning limitations. I had trouble to make my older daughter to practice piano for years, and almost came to the point to have her given up learning. Stephanie changed everything. Now my older daughter is getting not only serious with piano but practicing harder then ever. I am so happy to see the results. Highly recommend her!!!

Stephanie is s fantastic teacher! My daughter has thrived and grown like never before. When she wants to push her she expresses complete confidence. This builds my daughters confidence and she flourishes! She is in love again with piano! We drive an hour every week and it is worth it. If you are looking for an experienced teacher who loves to teach Stephanie is the one to go to.

Stephanie method of teaching is ideal for me as an older adult...very patient but she challenges me not to take shortcuts and to follow her guidance. Our sessions are very productive yet enjoyable.

As others have stated Karl is very patient with a new learner. His explanations are thorough and understandable. I make progress from lesson to lesson (for the most part) and look forward to the next lesson.
The student will be instructed on the basics of proper playing techniques, music theory, and musicianship. They will learn to read music and also play by ear which will make them a well rounded player.
About Luther A.
Luther unique talents as educator, instrumentalist, conductor, vocal coach, cinematographer, composer and arranger make him a sought-after teacher. Currently, Luther is working with the Bridgeport Board of Education at Roosevelt Elementary School for President Obama's Arts and Humanities Turn-Around Arts Initiative he is the Executive Director and Program Director of Blackwell's School of Music and Film and Minister of Music Director for New Hope Missionary Baptist Youth Singers.
Luther stays where I’m at and then helps me go the next step. That is useful for consistent gradual progress without the frustrations of moving either too slow or too fast (I am a beginning tenor saxophone player). Nice interpersonal style, patient and easy going, while methodical.

I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.
If you're just starting out or only a few years in the game, I'm patient and eager to help you build your piano skills! I want to make sure that you learn not only how to play the piano, but that you also have a firm grasp on everything else that goes into great musicianship! If you'd like, I can bring a strong emphasis on music theory, so that you can better understand and appreciate the music you are learning. On top of theory, I would love to open up the opportunity for you to compose your own pieces. I also want you to have a good understanding of how your instrument actually is working, physically speaking — my goal is to make you a well rounded musician!
I prefer to have you learn real repertoire versus working from a methods book, because I want you to be excited about the music you are learning. I will let you explore the rep that you want, from medieval to contemporary, as well as non-western. Contemporary classical music is my specialty, and I'd be more than happy to dive
Hello! My name's Kevin, and I'm a composer/musician based in Brooklyn. I went to the College of William and Mary where I studied both music and physics. Following that, I received a master's degree focusing in music composition from the University of Chicago.
I would love to help you have a stronger understanding of your instrument and music in general! I started playing clarinet in the 8th grade, and continued playing all through high school, undergrad, and grad school. Clarinet is my primary instrument, but before clarinet I began saxophone, and before saxophone, I began piano. Music has been a central part of my life for such a long time, and I can't imagine life without it!
My primary career pursuit is music composition, so I would love to dive into some music theory with each piece that you learn. I feel that understanding the mu
sic itself builds a stronger appreciation for the act of playing music. I have written a lot of pieces for myself on clarinet, and would be thrilled to help you on your own compositions if that is something your interested in. Contemporary classical music is my passion, but I want to help you explore the repertoire that fascinates you.
I remember when I started taking piano lessons as a child, I was extremely nervous to meet a new teacher and play for them. I wasn't even the painfully shy type, but something about playing music in front of a professional can be very intimidating. I had this expectation of myself to already be good, and I feared that the teacher would make me feel like I wasn't talented enough or didn't have what it took. Thankfully, I had wonderful music teachers (most of the time!) that would create an atmosphere where I felt comfortable. My lessons with my teacher, Mr. Decker, were a joy every week. Now that I myself am continuing this tradition of music instruction (10+ years of teaching experience), I know how important it is to create an environment in which the student feels at ease, and in the right frame of mind for learning and growth. Although I am very serious about achieving musical goals and making fast progress, I know that music is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Mr. Decker was ...
Greetings! My name is Gabriel, and I want to welcome you into the wonderful world of piano playing! I am an experienced teacher you can trust to take you or your child to the highest level. I've been playing piano for over 29 years (since I was three)! Growing up in a musical family, I first studied with my mother, who still teaches to this day in Orlando, FL. I studied at the University of Miami, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelors of Arts in Music. Some of my career highlights are Performing with the Frost Wind Ensemble in Carnegie Hall in 2006. Performing regularly with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. They still tour around the world under the direction of Terry Myers. Performing with The Temptations and The Four Tops (on saxophone, my other professional instrument). Playing at Universal Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter from
My teaching philosophy can be summed up in one word: Listening. I think this is the most important skill for a musician, music teacher, and music student. I listen to the student and find out what music already excites them. Then, through that music that they are already interested in, I teach them the universal fundamentals of music: first RHTYHM, then MELODY, then HARMONY. Practice can be fun when you are learning music that you love! I remember being a student myself, and being bored by many of the pieces I had to learn. Practice was drudgery at times! But, as I got older, I started making my own musical choices on what to study, and then I couldn't take myself away from practice! I look forward to my practice time every day, and I want to show you how to have that same excitement for learning and growth. I tailor my lessons to the needs of the individual student. I am always kind and patient, but I do push you to achieve your full potential! Let's get started!
Do you want to play classical piano music, rock keyboard, pop music, jazz? You are in the right place!
I choose and adapt songs according to the age, interests, goals, and skills of the students. I also use the songs to teach different musical concepts: intervals, progressions, scales, chords. Every student is different, so I don't use any specific method.
La clase puede ser en español.
I am a pianist, songwriter, and keyboard player and backup singer for a prog-rock band and also a music teacher.
I've been teaching music for a long time. Why? Because I love music and I love to teach. My mission statement: get you to enjoy music while learning.
The best moments on my work are when the students realize that they can play/sing something that they couldn't do before. I love their expressions at that moment.
I started playing music when I was 7: the recorder, the Spanish guitar, a double keyboard organ that I used to learn how to play the piano by myself. Later on, I started with official piano lessons and ended with my BA in piano.
My training was classical but I love new age music and jazz.
During my piano lessons, you can learn theory, composition, play classical music and know the differences between diffe
rent periods, play pop, jazz, rock, learn how to read lead sheets. I adapt songs you like to your skills so you can start playing your favorite music from the first day.
During my singing lessons, you can learn how to use your "instrument" (your voice) properly: breathing, posture, pitch, resonance, agility, vocal range, riffs.
My son, Dominick, has taken voice lessons with Laura for a few months at the School of Rock. He made great progress and was able to perform nicely. He feels very close to Laura and misses her a lot and can't wait to learn with her again when he's back in town.
May 30, 2019
Laura was beyond kind and understanding with me! I learned so much in just one short hour, and more importantly, she made the lesson so much fun! I absolutely look forward to learning more from her.

My daughter has been taking lessons with Laura for over 3 years. Laura makes the lessons fun and challenges her to learn. She even adds a little music theory which my daughter enjoys.
"He is a very talented and knowledgeable teacher who knows a lot about a lot of different instruments. He is a good leader and is good with people. He is d
ependable, well informed, disciplined, and just plain gifted in music. I so enjoyed being under his tutorship."
"Ms. Katarina has been teaching my daughters for over 2 years. She's great! She's extremely flexible, very reasonably priced, and most importantly my kids
love her. She has lots of patient. Not only does she teach the piano, she finds creative ways to teach through games, stories, and even through singing for the kids to remember. One time, on a cruise my 8 year old was having long conversation with the musical director about her favorite composers. It was pretty impressive because she knew where they lived, habits, if they were blind, if they could read, and even how many kids some of them had. Yes, she impressed him!"
"Very patient teacher rep since I am new to the piano
You will be lucky to have her as your teacher"
"Great lessons...Stephen is a wonderful teacher. Very kind and musical."
"Fantastic teacher. 100% recommend."
"She is very good with kids. My daughter loves her. So we'll continue with her on piano lesson."
"Veroslav is a tremendously patient expert piano instrument for my two children, ages 6 and 12. He has a gentle way of guiding kids who may feel shy. I’m j
ust blown away by my children’s progress in piano skills in just a couple of months, but also see how much their self-confidence has grown through doing well at something completely new! Absolutely recommend Veroslav, and we feel so lucky to have been connected to with him!"
"Jennifer is a terrific and patient teacher. She takes the time to make sure you understand the ideas she is expressing. I have had lessons in the past, bu
t they were never as interesting as they are with Jennifer, and I am old ! Dan"
"Joni cares deeply about her students and her love of music and the piano is contagious."
