About Andrew
I've been studying music for 10 years now. Having come to music later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I've completed my Bachelors degree in Music, taught privately and with several established music schools.

To me, music is above all about transformation. Beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, and learning an instrument can help students approach life as one big instrument they need to practice to master.
Learning to play an instrument is also an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused
, training is applicable to any new skill.
Last and definitely not least, playing music is fun.

*** Lesson Details ***

I plan my lessons around getting students to enjoy playing music as soon as possible, whether that means learning how to strum a chord rhythmically, playing their favorite song, or how to take a blues solo.
There are steps that have to be climbed to do more complex things and I encourage students to practice a little every day rather than for a long time once or twice a week. Developing a love of music and steady practice habits are more beneficial over the long term than practicing until your limit.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I currently have a living room space where I can teach, but it's small so it might be preferable to travel to you.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If necessary I can provide amplification, cables, and a microphone.

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Hip-hop, Funk, Reggae.

Andrew is great, very patient. My son is five and Andrew was able to keep him focus on the task at hand, he makes the lesson so enjoyable that my Dimico was practicing long after Andrew left. We are looking forward to more lessons with him.

About Andrew
As I have done with my community college students for the past 35 years, I put my students at ease by saying that I know they have not received adequate grammar instruction, nor have they been shown the writing process stages in high school. So what they are about to acquire is no review but a step-by-step introduction to college writing. After explaining a grammar concept, using the board, I give them a practice quiz. We go over the quiz during the next class; then I send them home with a similar quiz, which will be graded and discussed during the next class. During the course, I teach 15 ways to develop a paragraph. We work through the writing stages to develop types of essays.

I have helped students with research techniques (MLA & APA styles). I help students prepare for the SAT and ACT.

I also taught Japanese students in H
okkaido for more than two years at a private conversation school.

Recently, I have been helping grade school children (ages 8 to 17) improve in writing sentences, paragraphs and short essays.

Dr. Tem is a wonderful teacher for any age and audience. If you only want to learn to play, then you will be satisfied. However, if you are interested in music as art and a form of expressing one self, you will find this is where Dr. Tem's ability to teach really shines through.

About Rebecca
Graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory of Music with a degree in Commercial Music and Vocal Performance, I have taught dozens of students in piano ranging from children to adults.
I grew up learning to play the piano with the Suzuki Method, and furthered my skills and practice by becoming an accompanist at a local church for many years.
Throughout High School, I acted as the junior accompanist for our top choir.
I have toured Germany, France, and Switzerland both with my High School choir as well as the top choir of my university, being honored with the privilege of singing the Soprano solo of Mozart's Requiem in cathedrals throughout Europe.
As a freshman in college, I immediately began tutoring students of all years, including seniors in both Math and Music Theory, as the two subjects are invariably linked. This began my passion for
teaching!
Since then, I have taught many students in voice and piano. I love teaching and empowering others to meet their goals!
I look forward to working with you one-on-one!
