Derek is a very knowledgable instructor, easy to talk to, and I found his teaching technique is very motivating. He set realistic practice goals for the next session, which will require me to do my part, but that's the reason we show up, to learn how to play a musical instrument.
I highly recommend him.

I love bluegrass. My special interests range from Merle Travis, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and Tony Rice but also include newer groups like the Punch Brothers and Allison Krauss. Whether it’s getting your right hand alternating thumb pattern down, getting flat picking accurate and speedy, or learning to improvise over Bluegrass Standards, I can help.

About Henry
I perform and teach guitar professionally. Music is my passion and I love to learn new music and help others learn it as well. I currently specialize in teaching classical guitar with a focus on building strong technique, ear training, and practical applications for using formal and contemporary music analysis skills.

I also love playing jazz and various styles of pop music. I try to bring a similar approach to teaching these as I do in my classical teaching. I want to work on answering questions the music asks of the performer; like how would you play a Country Swing song versus a Jazz Swing song, how would you approach a contemporary Spanish Guitar Suite versus a Baroque Guitar Suite, or how would you play a Taylor Swift song versus a John Mayer song.

I have taught guitar since 2012 and have been playing since 2000. I am happy to take students at the beginner and intermediate levels. I believe strongly in integrating music theory and ultimately moving students toward musical self-suffiency, rather than focusing exclusively on learning particular pieces. I have extensive training in the theory, practice, and genre conventions of bluegrass.

About Ben
Hi, there! My name is Ben and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have taught students of all ages from 3 to adult. I have experience not just with teaching but also with writing, recording, and performing music in successful bands and on multiple instruments and in multiple genres. I am comfortable teaching piano, guitar, and bass guitar, ukulele, and I especially love teaching music theory. I have extensive theory training at the college level and have written and composed extensively in the classical, rock, jazz, and folk traditions. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your musical goals.

Ben has been instructing my 2 kids (now aged 11 and 9) in-home for at least 5 years. We started off with piano for the first few years but then switched to a combination of piano and acoustic guitar (half a session dedicated to each instrument).

He is patient, kind, and highly knowledgeable. I clearly see the upward trajectory in my kids' musical capabilities. One of my kids can be difficult to deal with, especially when he is tired, but Ben would mold his approach to the lesson on the spot to keep my kid engaged (e.g., instead of continuing the lesson on the actual piano, he'd switch to a fun music-oriented game).

I hadn't played a musical instrument since elementary school when I started Ukulele lessons with Ben. Ben started from the beginning, answered all my questions along the way, and built upon that information in each lesson. It wasn't in a didactic way, but in a way that was really customized to fit my Ukulele lesson goals. Ben's teaching style is very flexible also. I had some Ukulele lesson books I had been gifted and we worked from those. I didn't feel that I had to buy a bunch of additional equipment, books, etc.

I recommend Ben as a music teacher. He is understanding, encouraging, and inspirational. I am looking forward to continuing lessons with Ben and JC Instrumental.

Ben has been working with our daughter since January 2019, when she turned 6 1/2. He arrives at our home on time each week and he works with her at an age appropriate level. We appreciate that he recognizes the effort she puts into the weeks when she practices often and he gently makes her aware when she hasn't practiced enough. He always speaks with her in a kind way and with us in a collaborative manner. We all want her to enjoy her piano experience, and we are thankful to have found Ben just a few blocks away from our home.

Guitar lessons with me are unique because although I am young, I am a very experienced teacher already. I started learning guitar at 10 years old. By the time I was 16 I was gigging and teaching kids in my neighborhood and any Craigslist clients I could find. At 18, I took a 1.5 year program at the Los Angeles College of Music, where I graduated with an AA in guitar performance. Since then I have worked as a professional musician, and also as a teacher /consultant with Adopt the Arts, a non profit started by Matt Sorum (drummer of Guns N Roses, Hollywood Vampires) and director Abby Berman. In my time at Adopt the Arts I have amassed over 4000 teaching hours of teaching kids ages 4-13, so I am very experienced with kids and get along with them great since. I have also been giving other private lessons to people of all ages since 2011. Qualities that make me stand out as a teacher are relatability, patience, and an ability to identify the proper pace for the student to enjoy the ...

Taught at the basic level very well. If you know nothing about music or guitar Tommy's your guy. Goes through all the simple steps at an even pace making the entire experience relaxing. From there giving you the knowledge of your scales and blues scales, teaching you how to make mini solos on the spot really helps out with the musicality of it all. 10/5

About Steve C.

Hi everyone,

I have 47 years of playing experience and I have taught literally hundreds of students to play the guitar. I first make sure each student learns to hold the pick and the Guitar properly, and the correct way to pick and strum. This will ensure that the student doesn't develop poor habits.

For little children, I first teach them to pick their favorite songs.

The next level is to learn Rhythm/Strumming patterns and your basic chord and chord progressions so that you can play along with all your favorite songs.

No matter what style of Guitar that you wish to learn, I have pretty much taught them all. If you want to be a lead player, I have got you covered there too. I can teach you to be the best picker you can be.

Not only will I teach you to play an instrument, but I will teach you to understand the music. In this way, you won't be playing like a computer program. You will become teachers yourselves.

About Steve
Hi everyone, I am so excited that you are interested in learning to play an instrument! When you take lessons from me, not only will you learn to play music, but you will have fun learning it as well. I will teach you to play the instrument of your choice without actually having to read music. And, you will be playing music from the very first lesson. We will get to the reading of music later if you so desire.

During my 35 years of professional teaching, I have taught hundreds of students to play musical instruments. As far as I know, I have personally taught more La State Fiddle Champions than anyone else. I have even taught celebrity students such as the children from the Duck Dynasty television series.

Because I play somewhere around 15 musical instruments, I have a unique way of teaching music that ties all music together making
it easy to understand. You will find yourself loving your music lessons.

I love to teach by teaching songs and I mean fun songs. We will learn Cotton Eyed Joe, Cripple Creek, Old Joe Clark, Love Me Tender, Amazing Grace, Fire on the Mountain and many, many more. It will not be a chore to get you or your kids to practice their instrument, but you may have a hard time getting them to put it down.

Whether you are just interested in learning to play songs that you know or whether you want to write your own music, I can teach you the ropes. You will have a musical understanding that few have.

Violin/Fiddle students, I can fix any fingering problems that you may be having in a matter of minutes, and you will have complete fingerings for every song that we play. You will have plenty to practice on while waiting for the next lesson.

Also, as an added benefit, I will be accompanying you on the Guitar which is beneficial when it comes to being able to hear if you are playing in tune, and this also gives the feeling of being part of a band.

Guitar students can learn many different styles of playing. I teach Rhythm, Flat picking, Fingerstyles, Country, Rock, Folk, Blues, Classical, and pretty much any other style of playing the guitar.

For all you young Mandolin players, get ready to pick! I will have you playing all the fun tunes So if you are ready to learn an instrument for you or your child, let me know and we will get you playing ASAP!

Wow! Steve, you never cease to amaze me-all of these instruments! Not only do you play them, you teach other people to play them and in different styles of music! But underlying all of this is your lifelong love, and reverence of music and its history. Teaching is your lifelong ambition. Just as important, maybe more so, is your love and respect for the people you teach! You have devoted your life to music! I’ve known you for a long time. You are the “real deal”. I respect you so much!

I really enjoyed learning from Steve! He has such an easy way to help you learn. Steve taught me many things easily that I had always found difficult to learn and put into practice before, as I wasn't taught the right way. Learning from Steve will be a lot of fun and you won't regret taking his lessons. Because of what I learned from him I was able to make a CD with a friend in a studio. It was a wonderful experience and a lot of fun. I couldn't have done it without him! I am and always will be amazed at Steve's knowledge and skill. I would give 10 stars if I could....literally the best instructor ever!

Only committed students looking for a committed top level instructor need apply. I only work with individuals who are goal oriented and follow through. I promise to you nothing less than my very best as an instructor, and expect your very best in return. Operating at this level we will without doubt achieve your goals whatever they might be! Now a question to you, do you relate to any of the following?

• Do you try something for a few months and then give up?
• Do you make up excuses for not dedicating the proper amount of time towards your goals?
• Do you like receiving advice and direction, but don't follow that advice and direction?
• Do you have the habit of regularly questioning and challenging the instructor's credibility when learning?

If you see in yourself any of the aforementioned qualities in yourself then I cannot take you on as a student. Those qualities are not conducive to a successful learning experience, so I must avoid them at all costs. I am however ...

About Alex
I have been playing music since the age of 4 starting with cello, then guitar at age 11, and I have learned a variety of different instruments along the way. For 20 of those years I received formal training ranging from Suzuki group classes to 1 on 1 lessons to college music courses. I have 15 years of teaching experience. Note, however, that not all "years of experience" is created equal. I have passionately spent the past 15 years rigorously trying and testing many teaching techniques, approaches, and philosophies in a variety of formats, so that I could provide the most effective and efficient guitar lessons to you the learner. The formats I have taught in include 1 on 1, small group, large group, clinics, workshops, band coaching, instructor training and online 1 on 1. Each format has provided me with a unique learning experienc
e as an instructor that has been vital in allowing me to provide a top level learning experience to those I work with. From 2012-2018 I owned and operated Rock Life Music Academy in Arvada, CO. At the end of that 5 year period I closed the academy to focus on my own personal music endeavors. Out of my passion for teaching I continue to work with a select small group of individuals. Keeping my clientele list small allows me to provide the most focused & effective learning experience possible.

In addition to my first hand teaching experience I have also been trained in the art of teaching. For my first six years of teaching I studied teaching guitar & music with the very accomplished Tom Hess. In addition to Tom I have studied with other top level teachers as well. I am fortunate to have had the resource of consulting with these teachers in regards to teaching matters, and to have been able to build on their knowledge and experience. Furthermore, teaching music runs in my family as my step father is a professor of music at a university and my mother a retired middle school music teacher.

Lastly, to strengthen my abilities as an instructor I have always remained the student whether it's learning a new instrument, language, or martial art. This humbly allows me to relate to and empathize with my students. I am fully prepared to provide you with the best learning experience possible.

About Steven
Steven has been teaching private music lessons for more than ten years. He plays and teaches piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo and voice. Steven has worked with students of all ages (ages 4-early 60’s) and just genuinely enjoys sharing the gift of music with any and everyone! Steven believes that we are students in life and even though he has been playing professionally for half of his life he still sees himself as a student and loves learning from his students as well.
Steven began his musical journey at the age of 7 taking private piano lessons. In his early teens he was introduced to the guitar where his love for music and music education came full circle. In high school Steven took AP music theory and was the first chair guitarist in his high school jazz band. Though Steven was accepted to Berklee College of Music and B
elmont university he ended up attending VCU. While at VCU he took private jazz guitar lessons under Mike Ess. During his college years he formed two successful bands (Bella Blue, and Steve Carter Connexion) and also joined the popular hip hop group Earthtone. All of these groups were comprised of other outstanding musicians that have gone on to pursue professional careers in music as well.

After graduating VCU Steven continued his path in music teaching private lessons, playing guitar in church, and being a member and “hired gun” for multiple funk/rock/and R&B groups in the DMV area. Currently he is the lead guitarist and a vocalist for the band Stonebrook which is signed with EastCoast Entertainment, and Dance Candy which is signed with Sam Hill Entertainment. Dance Candy has been the rhythm section for the living legend of tap dance Savion Glover since 2015. They have performed everywhere from New York City to Mexico City and countless theaters in between. In 2017 Steven released his debut solo album entitled “Soullow” which can be found on iTunes, Spotify, and Tidal. Steven believes that getting to share the gift of music and educating youth and adults is an honor and a privilege that he is forever grateful for.
