About Kevin

I truly enjoy teaching. I've taught in the public school classroom for 11 years. Teaching music is so so much FUN! And it should be fun for the students to learn. When I'm teaching I tell all my students that if they don't enjoy and smile about something, then we need to change something.

I was out of town when my 15-year old son had his lesson with Kevin, so I sent a text to my son to find out how it went. "He is the best guitar teacher ever!!" my son replied. I think that says it all.

Hello! My name is Evan, and I love to play and teach percussion!

I enjoy working with students to develop their unique artistic voice on a variety of percussion instruments as well as a wide range of technical skills that facilitate many kinds of music-making and learning.

I studied at The Juilliard School for my master's degree, the University of Michigan for my bachelor's degree, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. I currently perform with Miami’s genre-bending chamber orchestra Nu Deco Ensemble, the New World Symphony, and have upcoming performances with Miami City Ballet. In addition, I run my own chamber music ensemble called Conduit. I am proud to have shared the stage with Grammy-winning musicians, including members of the ensemble Eighth Blackbird, the organist and songwriter Cory Henry, and vocalist Hila Plittmann. I have performed in venues such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, MoMA, the Arsht Center, the deYoung Museum in San ...

I have been playing drum kit and percussion for over ten years and teaching for about seven. In addition to drum kit, I can play and teach hand drums (djembe and conga) in contemporary or traditional African, Latin, American styles. I'm happy to share my skills and expertise with drummers of all ages and skill levels.

Ed is very generous with both his time and experience and is helpful to both student and parents in finding supplemental resources to aid in drum practice and development. Ed is extremely driven and unafraid to take risks which push himself and his students to new levels of accomplishment. Our son and our family thoroughly enjoy any opportunity to work with Ed."

"My 9-year-old son, Luke, who is on the spectrum (PDD-NOS) studied with David for the better part of a year and the experience was terrific. In addition to being extremely communicative and reliable, David was kind and patient. David kept Luke focused and entertained while also inviting him to think about rhythm in ways that made sense to Luke's brain. We happily traveled from Inwood to "Downtown Brooklyn" for lessons because the level of instruction was that good and, I think, Luke's progress demonstrates that. Luke was bitten by the hockey bug, so we are taking a break from percussion right now, but I wouldn't hesitate to return to David's studio should time allow in the future."

"Bo was great with teaching our son rudiments, grooves, Latin Jazz beats and much more. He also taught our son how to play live in a large theater setting for musicals. He was always organized and on time, which we appreciated. Jackson learned a lot from Bo and is now in his 3rd year at Juilliard Pre-College for percussion in NYC. Thanks so much, Bo! We'd do it again in a heartbeat."
