My only job is to help you find your own voice! And to have a lot of fun along the way!
We record you all the time in a recording studio environment. Then you will benefit from getting used to that voice that only you can hear. This is like having your own producer!
I am no throat specialist, but, I have accompanied singers for decades and may have some suggestions to help you. From breathing to posture to intonation, to energy, enunciation and more, there is a lot to cover.
I will accompany your singing at the keyboard all the time. I will also encourage your recording with karaoke tracks as well. Listening to yourself is exciting and helpful. Get over that insecurity. Come sing with confidence!
An integrated approach: Music almost always involves several skills. Below are some of the complementary skills that I can help you with. In my Semper Method, we always address several of them at every session. For example, we record, sing and play all the time. To sing you ...
RANDY L. Teacher / Musician / Producer
Are you an adult who always wished you could play or sing? Or a homeschooler who wishes you had music for your child?
Do you wish you or your child could just sit down and play the music you feel?
Is fear or uncertainty stopping you from playing in front of others?
Have you written some great song lyrics and just need help with the music?
Do you live far away from a good selection of teachers?
Maybe we should be talking. We make it easy to study online, from anywhere in the world.
Children don't learn to read before they can talk. So why should anyone have to try to read before they play or sing?
That is how music has been taught for many years, andone reason why many students just quit or had a miserable time with piano lessons. Music should be fun. Period.
We use m
usic to help you find your own voice. When you find your voice, the rest of you is not far behind.
We help people to overcome any fears they may have about playing. We simply help you to find your confidence. Many people are afraid to express themselves because of negative comments from a family member or friend. We help you move far past that and get to your own voice, free of worries.
It has been said that playing only from sheet music is like only being able to talk when you are reading it from a book.
We help people to play and sing by ear.
Yes, learning to read music brings you wonderful music from some great composers. But there is so much more.
First, we find out how you learn and what you are interested in. Life is just different when you get in touch with the music inside you. Sure, it is some work, but it is very satisfying! I love to help people do this!
All that said, reading musical notes is like your alphabet. When was the last time you had to ponder the alphabet when you wanted to speak? Once you know the alphabet, you just forget it and move on, to words, stories and communication. Music is a language as well.
Everybody loves music. How will you find yours? It’s different for everyone. Maybe you want to sing like that great pop singer you love, or play keyboard. Some people write songs. In all cases, the keyboard helps you to understand all about music.
Bach used to improvise all the time. Why shouldn't you?
SONGWRITERS: If you write songs, just bring in an idea and we will record it. We set a tempo and a key, and get your basic groove looped, all in about two minutes. Then we lay down the chords and a bass part and you sing a reference vocal. You can easily lay out a song in a one-hour session. Then it is easy to see how to produce it. It is amazing to go home with a recording of your song that did not exist in the world until you gave it a voice!
Along the way, you become a better writer, singer and/or keyboard player. You will learn to play by ear. And have a LOT of fun. You can do this online too.
ONLINE SESSIONS You create a rough sketch and we track it, with your input. We can help you to set up your own songwriter studio as well. If you get Logic software at your end, you can put on phones and cut a vocal with me producing you. Seriously, great fun. ;0)
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: “...an amazing instructor...inspiring mentor...compassionate.” “...a lot of patience.” “My son's love for music has come from Randy.” “...positive attitude and friendly personality.” “...wildly entertaining.” “ ...will teach you in a way that will make you want to learn.” “We look forward to our lesson every week!”
"Randy, I like your "Semper Method of Music” teaching method. It's applying knowledge with fun, and common sense... the best combination. Good luck. You’re a great musician." Joe Messina, Motown recording guitarist & Funk Brother
SONGLab Your music. Instantly. We use recording as a powerful tool to help you listen and improve. Tired of crappy tabs? Struggling to capture your song? No worries. Learn a process, instead of a lesson. Apply it anywhere.
Go from musical idea to music, fast. Get to the groove in 2 minutes or less. In any software.
SONGLab Studio. The antidote to rote.
SCHEDULING: Please note: If the particular time you had in mind is listed as unavailable, don’t worry. Between working online and two locations, I am very flexible and will work hard to make our schedules click.
SPECIAL NEEDS? Everyone's needs are special. If your child has been diagnosed ADHD or ASD, music can be a joyful and rewarding way to see real growth and make a wonderful experience for parent and child. We help with the Proprioceptive and Vestibular senses in a fun and therapeutic way.
Just Google "BrainVolts" for a tremendous study from Northwestern University on the amazing effects of music study!
Playing by Ear Pretty much everyone can play by ear. So we help you to find your own voice, reach your musical goals and to create and perform music as a real and beautiful part of your life.
Making music should not be a boring job. Rather, it should be something you can't wait to do. A way to get in touch with the rest of the universe. You will also learn to read and write, but it won't get in the way of your music.
Since a very young age I have loved to improvise and to create music. It is very satisfying to pass this on to others who are full of music inside but may not know how to get it out. If you wish that you or your child could get some help creating your own music as well as playing the great music already written, perhaps we should be talking.
I am from Canada, and I have been a professional musician since 1970. I studied music performance in school, piano with the Royal Conservatory of Toronto and Music Education at Queens University. I have toured with national acts, produced dozens of recordings of all kinds and played, arranged and conducted music on cruise ships all over the world.
Music is my life. Bringing other people's skills to a higher level is what I do best.
Tell me what you want to accomplish, either for yourself or your child. I look forward to speaking with you. Warm regards, Randy
PS: A note about allergens: I teach online and at my home and my studio. At home we have two very friendly dogs and a cat (Julian) who sleeps all day. If you have allergies, we will study at the Troy studio which is allergen-free. Unless you love animals. In that case, you will get to meet Vinnie & Buddy, the two most kid-friendly, loves-everybody, most gentle little guys you will ever meet. I put Vinnie's picture up so you can see him.
Teaching teachers Several excellent teachers I know who have been teaching music for many years were frustrated by not being able to play without a sheet of music. They have found satisfying and positive results from this approach.
Wouldn't it be great to be gifted? In fact... It turns out that choices lead to habits. Habits become talents. Talents are labeled gifts. You're not born this way, you get this way. ~ Seth Godin
*** Lesson Details ***
Music should be fun. Period.
My only real job is to make sure you have fun and want to learn more. Then you will do the rest. you will astonish yourself and everyone around you!
In a traditional music education, reading the works of others is the focus, with no encouragement to improvise or to play by ear.
In our community, there is a prestigious, private college prep school that charges just under $80 per hour for traditional private music lessons. If you take away the music, most cannot play a note.
My method is every bit the equal of that school for those who are drawn to express themselves playing by ear. You will still learn all the core skills needed to be a well-rounded musician.
Music study helps people young and old to overcome shyness and build confidence. It empowers them as they refine their special talents.
We will always have a lot of fun, but there is a lot to do, so we need to be efficient. My teaching method is a combination of the best methods I have found. It is backed up with the same solid principles that I received when I was a student myself. If you choose to continue and pursue a classical education at a high level, you will be well-prepared.
Please note: You are most welcome to start with 30 minute sessions to see if we are a good fit. 30 min lessons are offered for this purpose and also for very young children with short attention spans. For any student, wishing to make progress, lessons will eventually need to be an hour or 45 minutes at minimum in order to reach your goals.
Attendance While fun is our main goal, we need results and I am an old-school stickler for results.
Weekly sessions are the only way to get measurable results, and the only way I teach. Two absences a month is noted by colleges as a clear path to dropping out. That is what bi-weekly sessions will do.
Though you'll receive serious critiques from me, I always uplift and encourage. Positive energy is the ticket.
My Method: Listen, Sing, Clap, Play, Read and Write. With these tools you can look deeper into the elements that make up music. Folk, jazz, pop, rock or classical; all Western music is derived from the same principles. We will study ear training from a wonderful ear training book by a famous guitarist. It'Âs simple: you learn all the theory so you will be at the top of your game, but always have fun doing it. For notation, we will use The Semper Note Speller. For scales, we have the famous Brown Scale Book.
Technology We use recording as a tool to help you hear how you sound and we always encourage you to express yourself with improvisation. In many cases, you will have tracks to practice with. We also use apps for your phone that really help. A guitar tuner to nail down vocal pitch, as well as a metronome app that is with you wherever you go. If you have a minute anywhere you can get in some good practice time. So we truly have the best of all worlds: playing from music and learning to play by ear! If you stick with it and do the work, the end result will be that you can always just sit down and play, whether or not you have any music in front of you!
On our first lesson we will do a duet jam session together and you will not believe how great you sound!
The Big Picture In the old days, a tiny percentage of students would become a concert pianist.
Today, there are a multitude of other ways to become involved with music. Whether you are looking at music as a profession or as a hobby, we let parents know of the many choices available so that they can make good decisions, for themselves and for their children.
Having fun as you improve is a big priority. I also teach songwriting, singing, music recording and performance, as well as piano.
Remember: A piano should be an irresistible invitation, not an obstacle.
*** Studio Equipment *** Troy studio: A digital keyboard in a professional recording control-room environment at our media production studio. The studio is near Big Beaver and Stephenson Hwy.
Home studio: An acoustic piano and recording studio environment at my home in Franklin/Beverly Hills.
Your Instrument If you are taking any kind of music lesson, we recommend a tuned piano or digital keyboard, preferably with at least 76 full-sized keys.
We have helped many people to find the right piano. If you like, I can suggest several different models of keyboard that I have researched and of which I approve. They range from an inexpensive but effective starter keyboard for ear training and just plain fun to an 88 note weighted keyboard for more expressive practice.
*** Specialties *** Adults who always wanted to. Homeschoolers who are frustrated. Kids who just love music.
My youngest student is 4 and my oldest student is 102 now. )At 100 he recorded an album of songs from the 1920s!)
I teach people of all ages first to play by ear and to have fun while they study. Then I back up ear training with solid theory so they can read and write music. In school I studied many traditional methods and I have distilled my own distinct method from them. Though I am classically trained, I specialize in improvisation. Here's to a most satisfying musical experience! Best regards, Randy
Very comfortable and helpful. Looking forward to the next one.

Randy has been incredibly helpful with teaching me to have a better on camera experience. I read scripts while he records them, then we work on improving them. I would recommend Randy to anyone looking to improve their speaking voice
I believe that anyone who can speak can learn to sing! I teach based on music theory, technique, and repertoire building. The three register method I use can be applied to any style of singing from Opera to Pop. I have an Artist Certificate in Voice, a BA in Voice Performance, and an MAT in Choral Conducting. My specialty is Vocal Pedagogy, which means that I teach students the correct way to sing to ensure a safe and healthy instrument. I have been teaching private voice for ten years, and have a proven track record of students who have gone on to be successful in achieving their goals.
I began singing in a local children's choir when I was ten, and haven't looked back since! I attended the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, SC where I studied Opera and Musical Theater Voice. I then went to the College of Charleston where I completed a BA in Voice Performance and an MAT in Choral Conducting. I love singing, and love teaching others to love singing as well! I teach music full time and am the Musical Theater Director at Porter Gaud in Charleston, SC. I teach voice using registers and correct technique so that my students can sing whatever style of music best suits their interests. I am an avid Vocal Pedagogist and I present at State and National level conferences in the field of healthy singing.
Of all my instruments, I enjoy the act of and teaching singing the most. It brings tremendous joy to you and your audience and is fun to learn at whatever level. I like to demystify singing as some people seem to have spent a lot of time over-complicating it. That's not to say there isn't important technique to learn and practice but only when it's coupled with real vocal freedom that all the great singers have used to their advantage. I want my students to 'underthink' breath control so they can Let their bodies go on autopilot so they can focus on the performance instead of the technique alone, whatever their level. I have been told I have tremendous energy as a singer and I'd like to be able to share with you how I achieve that so that you can do the same!
British born and Educated at London's prestigious Trinity College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music, my professional musical career has spanned over two decades to date. I have performed with world renowned acts such as Sia, Dave Stewart and Horace Andy, and have been a featured recording artist on many of the worlds most famous film scores while myself having authored or co-authored over 30 movie scores. A Suzuki violin student since the age of 3, I added piano, guitar, singing and composition during my teenage years. The Suzuki method encourages advanced aural development from very early on and this has turned out to be my strongest suit. With my ear, I have impressed some of the most notable orchestrators, composers, directors and producers in London, Hollywood and the world over. In fact, it was these on the spot aural magic tr
icks that allowed me to impress the Hollywood composer that first invited me to Los Angeles to work on my first blockbuster. That opportunity led to many years of success in the industry and some notoriety. I have always had a passion for teaching, sharing my knowledge with others and watching other people take immense pleasure in their own achievements. I have been told time and time again that I have a very special gift for teaching and I would very much like to share it with you, whether you want to learn an instrument, musicianship, ear training, composition, hone your vocal or mic skills or learn how to arrange an orchestral piece in just a few hours! I look forward to talking to you about your specific needs and goals and having the opportunity to help you realize them in a fun friendly and authentic atmosphere. Andrew
I have been studying Broadway singers for years. I have been a Musical Theatre performer for years and I am still studying singing, acting and dancing. I am still young and know what it feels to want to better yourself everyday, so I can relate to most learning students. I put a lot of importance to vocal training, technique and warm-ups.
Lehman College, Bachelors of Fine Arts, Graduate! I am a Musical Theatre Performer. I perform all the time and believe that warm-ups are a big importance when it comes to performing. Technique is something I have been studying for a while, and I am consistently learning what new techniques work for myself too. I teach singing, acting and other subjects too, check them out!
Professional singer, songwriter and performer who is passionate about helping new vocalists find freedom, confidence and a sense of self in their singing!
Singing is a special type of music, with your body as the instrument and your heart laid out for all to see. As your teacher, I will help you build a solid foundation in technique and music theory while tailoring lessons to your personal aims and goals.
For those interested in songwriting/recording as well, my lesson plan can include me recording, mixing and producing a song that you compose.

I love all the ways there are to communicate -- through language, sound and visuals -- and am so blessed to share the gift of these arts with others!
So happy to have found Emilie! I work for a family with a four year old child who is extremely engaged in art and we wanted to find private lessons for her. Emilie has been extremely accommodating and very intentional in making sure we were ready for our first lesson. Will be scheduling more lessons and look forward to her being apart of my charges explorative learning!
I have been teaching voice for over 15 years, both in classroom and private lesson settings. I hold a Bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis in performing arts (such as musical theater) and a Master's in early childhood and elementary education, but I believe anyone can be taught to at least carry a tune-so all ages and skill levels are welcome. I fervently believe that a solid foundation in music theory and technique goes a long way, but I also know from experience that choosing to sing the types of music you love is essential to successful learning. I have been trained in classical voice, musical theater, and church music, but my passion is leading worship in the church and singing music of an acoustic folk or country style. As a professional musician I have done all of these styles (and more) many times over the course of my career. What that means is I have the experience to help you reach your goals, whatever they may be! Whether you have always dreamed of learning or are
I am a professional worship leader and pianist, as well as a professional teacher. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music, specifically voice and piano, from Columbia International University and a Master of Arts in Teaching early childhood and elementary education from that same school. I have been in this industry since I was a child, working both professionally and in a volunteer capacity. I have done everything from touring with choral groups, to directing musicals, to conducting children and adult choirs, to writing and arranging music for choirs and students, to teaching individual and group lessons.
My passion is the music of the church, but I am classically trained and have taught many different styles throughout my career, from Broadway to gospel and many things in between. I endeavor with each of my students to find their p
assion and goals before we ever dig in to the mechanics of learning to play so that I can direct your lessons in the way that best suits you. If playing off of a chord chart with a band is your goal, I can make your lessons suit that purpose. If you want to work toward competitions as a classical musician, I can help there too. I can also help if all you want to do is play for your own enjoyment or raise a well rounded child who appreciates the arts! While the basics of music theory are foundational and need to be taught, the techniques and methodology can be adjusted to suit your needs, whatever they may be.
I look forward to speaking with you and getting the chance to help you fall in love with music and to work toward your goals.
My coaching is unique in that it focuses on the entire performer, not just part. How is the voice produced in a way that is healthy and natural? What sets you aside from other performers? My students have high success rates in musical theater to commercial and classical styles. My focus is tailored to the individual with a healthy, firm understanding of technique and style.
Jeff has performed lead roles with the Mississippi Opera, Belmont University Opera Theater, and was selected in 2018 to perform an American Premier in Nashville, TN of a South Korean Work accompanied by choir and orchestra. In 2014, Jeff was granted the opportunity to study at the Juilliard School through private instruction and later studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with performance emphasis in voice and piano. Jeff currently works with students from beginner to advanced levels in voice and piano. He specializes in jazz, musical theater, and classical styles of singing and is happy to cater needs to the individual student.
My kids adore Jeff! He does the most for his students and it really shows in their progress. Couldn’t recommend a better teacher.

My family moved to the U.S. from France 1 year ago. Mr. Jeff is able to conduct lessons for my children in French with no barrier. He is professional and my children remind me at the beginning of week for their weekend lesson days away. It is a highlight.
I studied Musical Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music in London where I got my MA and a teaching certification. Whatever your vocal goals are, it's totally possible and I can get you there, whether you want to sing higher, learn to belt healthily, riff... whatever! I have trained with some of the worlds top singers and teachers and participated in Master Classes with Patti Lupone, Claude Michel-Schonberg, Jenna Russel, and Imelda Staunton.
Hello! My name is Alix! I have an MA in Musical Theatre as well as a teaching certification from the Royal Academy of Music in London. I have worked with and learned from some of the best people in the industry including Patti LuPone and Claude Michel-Schonberg (composer of Les Miz) just to name a few.
Whatever your vocal goals are, I can help you get there. Whether you want to improve technique, work on acting through song, learn a new style etc. You can expect to improve week by week. Singing isn't only about sound, it involves your whole body, so my students can expect exercises that will release tongue, jaw, and neck tension as well as increase breath control.
Let me know if you have any questions, just let me know. I look forward to meeting you!
"Stacey created an environment that was extremely conducive to learning. She is not only very knowledgeable but she presents information in an easy and re
laxing manner. Being a novice I did not feel overwhelmed or intimidated by what she asked of me. Very quickly she was able to discern where to take the lesson that instilled the greatest confidence and yet focused on the most immediate opportunities for moving forward. She’s fun, enthusiastic, and informative and made an hour lesson seem like fifteen minutes. I look forward to working with her in the future. I would strongly recommend her."
"He makes very customized class for individual student in terms of your interest and your current level of skill. Taking his lesson is a very enjoyable exp
erience for me. He made his lesson very interesting and relaxing, in the meanwhile, he covers sufficient material. He is very knowledgeable about music academics, however, you NEVER feel like it is in classroom where you want to escape from. I'm not a music-major student, however, music is my life hobby and it's everywhere in my life. And trust me, he is absolutely NOT a interest killer. In his place, I feel like in a peaceful area where really match my aura. At the same time, I am an academical person, I intend to understand things from their roots, and he is always capable of explaining in very professional way. So, no matter what kind of person you are, he would always love to switch to the mode that best fitting you.
Also, he explained everything very detailed and very patient about your questions. And he made every-week schedule very flexible to your varying schedule. Everything is just perfect for me. BEST teacher EVER!"
"Val is a really excellent expert in teaching and coaching voice. My vocal technique has improved a lot after a few lessons. He has provided me with very v
aluable advice in pursuit of my future career. I am very grateful for his patience and his expertise in helping me with all aspects in singing. I will be returning from Hong Kong very soon, and i am very much looking forward to taking more lessons from him again."
"Stacey is the perfect instructor for my five-year-old girl. She is professional yet fun, and works with my daughter to learn the songs even though she can
't yet read words herself. My daughter loves her lessons and looks forward to them each week. I would recommend Stacey to everyone."
"Rosita is awesome, love working with her, she's very clear, gives good instruction, makes you feel very comfortable. She has a wonderful set up with an id
eal space for lessons. I like her experience with different languages and genres.
"Fawn is terrific! Can’t wait to practice her homework. She really engaged my kids and quickly began to fix the problems I was having."
"We've had a great experience with Ms. Judy overall. My daughter has learned new technics to enhance her vocal range and is excited about going to her less
on every week. Thank you Judy!!
Highly recommended. :)"
"Susan is kind, effective, and pushes me to sing my best. I can feel my voice growing stronger and more confident with every lesson. I look forward to our
sessions every week with a smile."
"Carrie is excellent!
Carrie is an excellent instructor. She really cares about her students and is very understanding. She will not make you do anything
you are not willing to do or try. When I started lessons, I was very nervous, but she made me feel very comfortable. Working with her has been a pleasure, and I would recommend her to anyone looking for an instructor."
