"Melanie A. is an extraordinary teacher!
Of the many music teachers out there, I would have to say that Melanie is one with a unique ability to get studen
ts from any background to really understand what it is they need to and learn. To begin, Melanie's upbeat and bright, but professional personality is one that easily clicks with all types of students, making it easy to learn. She is so patient and kind, but just strict enough to get us to do what we need to do. I have seen her sing several times and her great vocal talents and stage performances allow her to give honest, professional, and needed pointers that help students improve (but never in a harsh way). I personally observed this from our band sessions where she is able to teach and give performance advice to a group of students that has greatly improved our ability to be able to be on stage. As a guitar player, she has given me pointers that slightly pushes me out of my comfort zone, but as bettered my stage performance.Just as she capable of teaching groups, she is an excellent one-on-one teacher. It is never hard to ask her for extra help or assistance as her genuine love for singing and music is what fuels to want others to have the same love for it as well. She is always encouraging and constantly reminds you of your abilities to make sure you are never feeling discouraged. Having her as a mentor will never fail to improve your skills in music (whether it be singing or performing on stage) and build your confidence."

"My favorite teacher ever!
I recommend taking lessons with no one else but Jordan! I've tried other teachers, but from our very first lesson Jordan made m
e feel really comfortable and catered our lessons towards the music I like, which made learning fun and not a hassle. It's really great to meet someone so friendly, but who also knows music - especially guitar - so well. I can't say enough great things about him; he's made music one of the most important aspect of my life. I highly, highly recommend taking lessons with him!"

"I have nothing but great things to say about Zak N., my daughter's instructor - he is SUPER with her and has given her confidence and the self-esteem she
lacked before. I would refer family/friends and others to him in a heartbeat!!! He is the BEST!!!
Zak has gone so far out of his way to accommodate us. He has taken my daughter under his wing, insisting that she surpasses him in his expertise and spends 4 times the amount of time he is getting paid for, just to increase her skills and confidence. This is all while he attends two different colleges on a full-time basis!!! He is simply amazing, and incredibly talented!"

"I'd been with Simon for five lessons. Very patient and attentive. Ready to work at my own pace."
I grew up in a musical home, my father was a rock and roll and soul session drummer throughout the '60's and '70's in New York. I picked up the guitar at 11 years old and started taking lessons. After studying classical and jazz throughout high school I attended William Paterson University from 1994 - 1997, majoring in Music Education and studying with jazz guitar guru Vic Juris and classical guitarist Rich Jacobowski. And the later at CCNY with Ornette Coleman alum Kenny Wessel.
In 1997, I moved to Brooklyn and cut my teeth in the NYC R&B and rock club scene playing in the band Sole Pocket
, and with various jazz combos at many other clubs including the Blue Note and the Knitting Factory. In 2003 I returned to college at CCNY (city college of New York), majoring in Jazz Performance and studying with Ornette Coleman alum, Kenny Wessel. I also formed my Hip Hop band, Spokinn Movement, and started my long standing weekly Hip Hop event, Freestyle Mondays (still running after 10 years!) in the East Village. Freestyle Mondays has attracted some of the best musicians in NYC and the world to sit in or just hang out, including Tarus Mateen, Marcus Miller (Miles Davis bassist), Ari Hoenig, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Tim Motzer, Adam Deitch and countless others. In the summer of 2005, I recorded for a couple of months with Lauryn Hill. I then spent 3 months playing in China and Hong Kong as well as several tours of the UK and Europe with Spokinn Movement.
Most recently I have been a sub guitarist for the Tony award (best score, best orchestration 2008) and Pulitzer prize winning musical Next To Normal, as well as first guitar at the 2010 Williamstown Theater Festival Production of critically acclaimed musical "The Last Goodbye" which features the music of Jeff Buckley (the first project licensed by his estate since his untimely passing in 1997).
*** Lesson Details *** Like my musical abilities, I am an extremely versatile teacher. If you need a strict program, I can "crack the whip", but if you'd rather just learn some tunes you like, without all the theory and technical stuff, we'll find a balanced program that works for your learning style.
I have been teaching for 10 years, so whether you're trying to make the high school all state jazz band or learning a new Arcade Fire tune, I can steer you in the right direction. I'll keep you motivated to improve and become the artist you want to be. With simple, clear direction from me and a little practice and hard work from you, we'll have you playing your favorite music in just a couple of months.
*** Studio Equipment *** Dedicated to music, weighted casio, room for parents to wait
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a guitar, but if a student is going to practice, I would think they would need to purchase a guitar at some point. I suppose I could bring an amp as well. Students should also have a manuscript book and/or a method book (depending on their level).
*** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz guitar, but am experienced and well versed in rock, blues, classical, hip hop, R&B, funk and pretty much anything else.

5 yr old guitar lessons
David has been excellent with my 5 year old. He is extremely patient, fun, and friendly and is teaching her how to play the guitar. i am amazed. I didn't think it was even possible for her to learn as much as she has. i would highly recommend David to teach any child music.
JackR February 2, 2012
Dave is a very enthusiastic teacher with good theoretical knowledge on the piano. His practical knowledge is OK. Dave is very good with letting the student determine his goals and then he tailors his lessons around those goals. This makes the lessons more enjoyable. The only suggestion I would have is that he should have the sheet music written in advance for that day's lesson. He had the music written in advance on our last lesson but for one or two previous ones, he was writing the music during the lesson which took time away from the lesson. Overall, I was very happy with Dave and would recommend him.
Teaching music is my passion, it is more than just a career. I value each student and the time I have with them; helping them to explore the world of music. Hopefully after each lesson, my students walk away with a deeper understanding of music theory and have enjoyed their time. I am available to teach Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Classical Guitar, Bass, Upright Bass, Banjo, Ukulele, Mandolin, and beginner Drums.
I am a husband and father. I teach all age ranges.
*** Lesson Details *** I approach each lesson differently because every student is unique. During the initial lesson
I will begin to assess the student's ability, determine the best teaching technique for them, and setup a practicing at home guideline. My job is to help the student reach their individual goals and support them along the way. I feel every student deserves to learn to read music and I will concentrate on this with them.
Lessons are taught in my personal music studio; it is a laid-back, family friendly environment. There may be specific books and supplies I recommend purchasing (these will enhance the success of a budding musician). I will most likely also hand out sheet music of songs to practice and may recommend certain artists within specific genres for the students to listen to and familiarize themselves with.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in Classical/Flamenco guitar. I can teach many different styles such as Rock, Blues, Jazz, etc. I am always learning, and am willing to learn so that my students get the best experience they can get.

I have a great experience in my lessons with Andrei. He is a great teacher and gives me constant encouragement.

Classical Guitar ·
Andrei has been our weekly music teacher for more than three years. He teaches my son (now 9 years old) to read music and play the drums and the piano, and he teaches me to play the guitar.
Andrei has been nothing but reliable and generous with his time. He is proficient in music history and theory, in a wide range of musical styles, on multiple instruments. His patience, diverse knowledge and skills along with what appears to be an intuitive approach toward each of his varied students, has been very effective for us. Also, he knows A LOT of music, has a great ear and doesn't seem to mind working with us to play whatever tunes we come up with each week.
If you or your child wants to learn to play an instrument, this is the guy!
Jeff is a seasoned instructor in guitar, songwriting, music performance and music business. He also offers lessons in public speaking, voice-over performance and ukulele. He welcomes students of all ages and experience and has successfully and happily taught beginners to pro-level musicians and recording artists. Jeff is pleased to announce that he is currently accepting Takelessons online students via Skype.
Jeff can teach guitar and songwriting in all styles and is an adept acoustic and electric guitarist. His knowledge of chords is extensive and his acoustic fingerpicking skills ar
e formidable. Jeff structures all lessons around the individual goals and playing level of his students. Jeff's students tend to study with him for quite some time, as his wealth of knowledge, diversity of instruction and patience are extraordinary. Jeff prides himself on customizing every student's lessons based on their particular preferences, goals and skill level. "It's a very personalized kind of instruction, as I never take a cookie-cutter approach to teaching…". Jeff's 3 promises to all students is to give them personalized lessons, be attentive to their needs and goals. and to make them feel like every lesson is worth their investment of time and money. As long as students practice regularly, they can expect to dramatically increase their clarity of playing, their chord "inventory", their musical ear and awareness and play the songs they've always wanted to learn.
After honing his craft as a songwriter and performer, Jeff created and taught songwriting and music business classes at colleges, universities, and music schools throughout the country for many years. Some of the places he taught include UCLA Extension, Santa Monica College, Pasadena City College and The Harrison School Of Music. When asked to summarize his views on teaching and music: "Teaching and playing music always puts a smile on my face; especially when I see that the student is having fun, learning what they want to learn and feeling the passion about music that motivated me to pursue my own musical career".
As a working singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jeff is known for his memorable melodies, intelligently crafted lyrics and heartfelt vocals. His compositions have earned him over 35 awards from various national and international songwriting contests and he's a former staff songwriter for the long-standing New York City-based publisher, Bourne Music. He has also won best music video awards at 3 international film festivals.
Some of the artists that Jeff has been compared to as a guitarist and vocalist include Keb' Mo', James Taylor, Kenny Loggins, Ry Cooder, John Mayer, Bill Withers, Jim Croce, and Don Henley.
Jeff is a NJ native, but lived and performed in Los Angeles for many years, where he worked in the studio or shared the stage with well-known artists such as Dave Koz, Norman Brown, John Daversa, Hiroshima, Little Richard and N'Dea Davenport.
Jeff catalog of over 450 songs and compositions spans virtually every genre, but many of his tunes are amalgams of pop, blues, jazz, R&B, country and rock. Quite a number of Jeff's songs have appeared in film and TV. One that Jeff is particularly proud of, is the dynamic pop ballad, "Journey Of The Heart" (co-written by Jeanne Smith), which was licensed by the N.C.A.A. (National Collegiate Athletic Association), who deemed it "the official anthem" of their NCAA Hall Of Champions facility in Indianapolis.
Jeff has commercially released 4 CD's of his original material: The most recent of these is his 2013 release, "Blujanova" (a merging of blues, jazz and bossa nova), which was praised by platinum selling and Grammy-nominated jazz star, Dave Koz: "Jeff's voice is so clean and pure...the production is lovely...warm and inviting...I love the interesting and surprising takes on some classics too, especially 'I Feel Good'…that brought a smile to my face!". The other CD's stretch into other genres. "Truthteller" (bluesy pop/rock and singer/songwriter material) "Me, Myself, and I" (acoustic) and "The Spin" (pop, rock, and country-tinged singer/songwriter material). All of Jeff's albums are on his label, Relevant Records. The late great John Braheny, author of the best-selling "The Craft And Business Of Songwriting (Writer's Digest Books), gave high praise to Jeff's CD, "The Spin", calling it "honest, crafty, melodic and the songs are all exceptional". Patch.com called Jeff "a consummate songwriter".
*** Lesson Details *** At the first lesson, I will ask you to tell me what songs you want to play and artists you want to play like and I will set the table for that by providing the chords you'll need, chord and scales and exercises to enable you to play them and guidelines and tricks on how to make it happen as quickly as possible. I know a wide variety of songs in all styles and styles, including current hit songs as well as pop, rock, blues, jazz, country songs. if you have a song or artist that I don't know already, I will learn it (often on the spot) and if not right then, at the next lesson. I have taught my students to play songs by artists as varied as Taylor Swift, U2, Jason Mraz, Adele, Eric Clapton, Django Reinhardt, Doc Watson. And that's just naming a few.
I always make it clear to my students at the first lesson: "There is no such thing as a stupid question". I want you to feel comfortable to stop me at any time to clarify what I am teaching you, ESPECIALLY if it is too difficult or vague. I pride myself on always being organized for your lesson and making sure that you grasp whatever it is I am teaching you. The goal is to get you to be able to play what you want as quickly as possible. This will take practice and dedication on your part, but I will do everything in my power to help you get there.
I never force anything on any of my students. but I feel it would be beneficial for you to learn to read music OR read tablature and chord diagrams. You tell me which one and we'll go in that direction. If you'd like to read music, then we can decide on a book for you. I have used Hal Leonard instructional books (with CD's! this way you can play with a backing track and get a sense of rhythm, which is very important), but I'm open to other method books you might have or like.
After 3 to 6 months, you will feel you are significantly more skilled on the guitar than you were before we started lessons. You will know more chords (and move from chord to chord), be able to do at least some basic fingerpicking and be able to read some music or tablature.
*** Specialties *** Acoustic fingerstyle guitar (a la James Taylor, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Keb' Mo', Jason Mraz, John Martyn, Jim Croce, etc.
Blues guitar a la Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Keb' Mo', Jorma Kaukonen, Ry Cooder, etc.
Bossa nova guitar
Songwriting (any aspect and any level; musically, lyrically, structurally, etc.)
the songs of Taylor Swift---quite a few of my younger students want to play her material, so I have about 15 songs ready to teach you and always learning more (by popular demand)
Adapting songs that are keyboard-based and creating arrangements of them for acoustic guitar. Examples include songs by Adele, songs by Elton John, Irina Menzel's huge hit song from "Frozen", John Legend's "All Of Me", Coldplay's "Viva La Vida", etc.

Jeff is an excellent teacher. He asks what you want and who you want to be as a guitarist. I feel so very comfortable talking to him and asking any questions that I may have. I understand why he is a student favorite. I started guitar not knowing anything and has learned so much. I don't ever get bored at anything he says. He has a great sense of humor. He always makes me laugh and cracks jokes that always crack me up. You can tell that he definitely loves what he does. He always say to ask any questions and writes down anything that you may have trouble with. Jeff is very knowledgable and laid back. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Jeff is an outstanding teacher.
I started taking guitar lessons with him since November 2012, for more than 2 years now. I was an absolute beginner with the guitar, and Jeff taught me the basics of the guitar amazingly and helped me build a strong guitar core. Jeff lets you stay a few extra minutes after the class ends, if you are "in the zone" or if you are just finishing up the lesson. He also gives great advice on the type of guitar you would be best off buying. Jeff also tells you when you need to change the strings and gives advice on fixing up the guitar should it have a problem. Also, Jeff teaches you any song you want. The genre doesn't matter - Jeff will help you master any song you wish to learn. One of the most important thing about Jeff is that he is always looking to find ways to make playing guitar easier and make it sound better. He gives little tips that greatly help you, in both playing chords or songs. He is also very patient and will always answer your questions, so don't be afraid to ask anything. Jeff also supplements his lessons with the Hal Leonard book, to help you learn how to read and play written music and he also explains what all the symbols mean.
I would highly recommend Jeff to anyone who wants to learn the guitar as he goes to great lengths to help his students in any way possible.
