Katie H.

San Mateo, CA

I have been an avid dancer for over 20 years.

About Katie

I begin teaching/substituting dance classes while in high school. I have been an avid dancer all my life, and love to share my passion for movement with others. I love participating in and teaching any physical activity. I graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelors in Kinesiology, and recently received my Associates for Physical Therapist Assistant. Both these majors require a heavy course load, particularly with a emphasis in sciences. With this heavy course long, I have learned great strategies to tackling studying or learning slumps. I have had tutors myself and understand how helpful they can be. I have absolutely love learning, and I think it is important to have an open mind. I am very flexible, love suggestions, and extremely accommodating. I pride myself on ...

Penny B.

San Francisco, CA

Concepts for Ballet, Tap, Modern, and ethnic forms should be presented with explanations, making dance an education and not simply physical manipulation to reach a goal.
The technical side of Ballet sets the foundation. Delivering that foundation can be best accomplished with music that is relevant and expanding to the student.
Young students absorb an incredible amount with games and story enactment. It's the perfect time to teach terminology, stage direction and strong fundamental skills.

About Penny

It's important for dance education to take place in a safe environment in order to truly develop the creative skills of the student.. My hope is to increase not only a students technique, but also a love and an appreciation of the arts and their interaction. I took dance from Penny for many years and she is an amazing teacher! She truly cares about her students and helps them not only to learn so much but to love what they're learning. One of the things I liked most about Penny is that she cares so much about technique, she wants you to learn it and learn it right. She knows many forms of dance and can offer so much for her students!

Penny is a truly gifted and wonderful teacher! I took ballet from her for nearly 11 years, and some of my most fond memories are from the times I spent with her! Because of the safe, welcoming environment that she creates, an anxious and clumsy girl, like myself, was able to come and become a beautiful dancer! In class, I learned the process of performing, stage makeup and ect, but more importantly, I learned how to have a graceful attitude, have respect for myself, my body and others, and a true appreciation of the arts. If she didn't now live on the other side of the county from me, I'd still be continuing lessons!
