Vania is an excellent Spanish instructor

I've taken many Spanish lessons that have ranged from various software programs to personal tutors. Vania is great. She knows how to relate with each person in order to convey concepts. She's the best I have worked with.

She's also very accommodating, since I tend to change my schedule around a lot. She is always flexible to accommodate. Vania is simply great.

Natalie S.

I've worked with students 1 on 1 and in groups to help prep them for their AP Exams in the following subjects:
AP Exam Prep (AP World History, AP US History, AP European History, AP Psychology, and AP English)
*90% success rate for students passing their AP Exams

About Natalie

My teaching process is summed up in 3 words:
Engage. Encourage. Excel.

I ENGAGE my students with material that is interesting and purposeful.
I ENCOURAGE my students to work hard to achieve their educational goals.
I watch my students EXCEL and successfully and confidently reach their full potential.

I am a highly qualified English and writing teacher available to tutor students of all ages in all humanities-related subjects.

Specifically, I work with students who need assistance with:

-Beginner reading and writing skills
-High school reading comprehension and writing ski
lls
-High school and college research paper process
-Study and organizational skills
-AP Exam Prep (AP World History, AP US History, AP European History, AP Psychology, and AP English) *90% success rate for students passing their AP Exams
-College admissions process and college essay writing

My goal is to give students the tools and practice to improve upon their reading, writing, and study skills, so they can confidently and successfully excel on their own after working with me.

Background:
-BA in English Education at University of Delaware
-MA in English Literature at San Diego State University

Experience:
-12 years of tutoring with all ages and humanities-related subjects
-1 year as a high school English teacher
-2 years as a college-level writing tutor
-2 years as a college writing and literature professor

*** Lesson Details ***
Upon meeting a student for the first time, I typically discuss the following details with both the parent and student:
-What is the overall goal for the tutoring sessions? Does the student need daily or weekly sessions to achieve this goal?
-How does the student learn best? Is he/she an auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learner?
-Once I understand the overall goal and the process in which the student learns best, we will create a plan together for moving forward in a clear, manageable fashion
-Before each session begins, I create a list of objectives and a plan to complete them, so it's clear to the student what needs to get accomplished during each meeting.
In this way, everyone involved feels productive and successful!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have no strict requirements for specific equipment that you must have for our sessions, however, below are a few suggestions:

In-person sessions: It's a good idea to have a work space set up that is away from distraction. Also, have all of your materials ready, so we don't waste any of your tutoring time getting books, paper, etc!

Online sessions: Strong WiFi connection, so you can easily access a Skype session. Also, it's ideal to set up your work space in a quiet setting and be prepared with attachments and exercises opened and/or completed that I've e-mailed to you prior to our session.

*** Specialties ***
While I have experience working with many students in all humanities-related subjects (English, History, Psychology, Women's Studies), I most often work with students who need help learning the writing process. I also spend a lot of time helping students navigate the college admissions process and writing their college admissions essays.

In addition, I spend a lot of time working with students who need help staying on track in their AP courses and prepping for their AP exams. I have a 90% success rate for students who pass their AP exams after working with me.

Judy is a very patient and passionate teacher. I have very little Spanish experience, and she took my skill level as well as my own personal requests regarding the lessons into account. It was easy to tell that she has years of experience backing her and was a pleasure as soon as the first lesson began. Should my time open up again, I will definitely try and get in contact her.. assuming she isn't swamped with students then!

Jamie S.

Alpine, CA

I'v been working as an English teacher and tutor for about a year, and have had the privilege of seeing my students go on to study abroad and prepare for university.
As a 4.0 GPA holder through out college, I have a great understanding of successful study methods and test preparation for any subject. I use various methods to study, including study guides, flash cards, and more. I enjoy working with students of all age groups, and look forward to meeting you!

About Jamie

Hello! My name is Jamie, and I can't wait to meet you! I have been teaching for about a year now, and have loved every second of it. I graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Anthropology in 2012, and I have since gone on to achieve a CELTA certification to teach English as a second language. I have just returned from Thailand where I spent six months living and working as a high school English teacher and private tutor, and am ready to take my teaching back to San Diego!
I am a laid back and fun loving person, and my teaching style reflects this. My lessons are enjoyable
and engaging, with a strong focus on conversation and activities.

I hope to meet you soon, and look forward to helping you meet your goals!

Noora was an excellent tutor! Very friendly, kind and smart. She worked with my seven-year-old son on the basics of math, reading and writing. She came to sessions very prepared and brought something new to each every time. I definitely saw improvement in my son's learning.
