I have worked with vocal coaches since I was a kid and for the first time when working with Danny within the first lessons, I have already improved my range and control. Also just the basic use of parts of my voice that didn't even know existed. I am also learning how to use my mix and I am excited as it comes in handy in singing country pop.

Danny V is the best coach I have had in a long time. Right on our first meet, we had a talk of my long and short term goals. Danny was able to customize a lesson plan that helped me prepare from being a background vocalist to a front liner. Also helped me with how to use and hold my microphone.

Danny V is everything you could want as a vocal instructor.

I came to Danny about 3 years ago wanting to take lessons. I had a very light classical type voice but I wanted more. Danny worked with me and helped me build my voice up to be strong, powerful yet controlled. I can do everything and more that I had only dreamed of doing with my voice. Not only that but I am STILL improving. Danny helped me believe in myself and that I could achieve the voice I wanted, now I'm here and I couldn't be happier or more proud of my voice! I have and still do recommend Danny to other singers he is the best you can get!

I just started receiving instruction from Julian. I'm a complete beginner, age 51. I've only had 2 lessons so far, and am comfortable. He's to the point, and makes sure I comprehend something each time I've been to my appointments. He sends my homework to an email account. For all the rockers out there, man, this dude can jam out on bass guitar - I listened to him roll off a few Rush licks the other night.

very unprofessional. I was not late, but instead went to the wrong apartment. Instead of asking if I was running late or got lost, he sent me a riddle about being late: "To be early is to be one time. To be on time is to be late. To be late is to be in trouble." I'm an adult, I don't need to be told i'm in trouble. Rubbed me the wrong way.

Michael K.

San Antonio, TX

About Michael

Hello! I'm Michael. Music has been 'my thing' since I found a guitar in my Mom's closet at age 9 and didn't move until figured out "Mary Had A Little Lamb". That's the curiosity I try to instill in my students! Although I started playing trumpet and guitar in elementary school, my music education at University of Texas in SA opened up musical doors I never knew existed! Currently I teach trumpet, guitar, piano, drums and saxophone, ages 6 to 45, as well as play trumpet around town when the sun goes down. I passionately emphasize music reading ability, improv techniques through jazz studies, an
d a solid music theory foundation- no matter what age you are!!!

*** Lesson Details ***
Every lesson, past concepts are reviewed and emphasized, then we crawl forward through new music, discussing the technique and theory of every piece we play. I've accumulated an expansive library of teaching material to create a very diverse path when exploring the wonderful world of music. I always try to emphasize practicing a classical piece and a jazz piece. Popular and original music is always fun too! Whatever your idea of music is, we will build on it, playing pieces you want to play!
*** Studio Equipment ***
A variety of instruments are at our disposal here in the studio, including...

Acoustic piano & electric keyboard, guitars, trumpet & cornet, upright acoustic bass, 7-piece drum set & auxiliary percussion... and my clarinet!

*** Specialties ***
The house is very friendly and comfortable, great with children and families. Lots of natural light! Netflix/Kids Netflix available, or a lot of books if you prefer! Large front porch patio, great on a nice day!

Music Theory · In studio
I recently began taking lessons with Michael on understanding more about music theory with the objective of becoming a better guitarist and song writer. Not only the knowledge I have gained, but the overall improvement of my musicianship in such a short amount of time has greatly surpassed my expectations. I would highly recommend Michael to any musician looking to take their craft to the next level.

My lessons are always a good time with Michael and i look forward to each one every week. He's a great teacher and musician and I definitely recommend him to everyone.

Michael has been wonderful. He seems very young to this old woman, but his maturity is remarkable. I have never had a teacher handle 'Thias the way Michael does. Somehow he seems to always be a step ahead of his young student and has a distinct ability to keep 'Thias focused on the lesson. Mathias has learned so much in the last four weeks, his playing sounds much more mature and organized and he is enraptured with the music he is making. I have always had to keep an eye on the lesson to make sure that Mathias was engaged. Somehow I do not feel the need to do that anymore. I guess I can say that Michael has given me the chance to relax and "enjoy the music". Thank you, Michael, You are making my dream and Mathias's dream come true.

I have a passion for the performing arts; every aspect of it. From learning a piece to committing it to memory.

Twelve Benefits of Music Education
Music Education Advocacy Resources on amazon.com

1. Early musical training helps develop b
rain areas involved in language and reasoning. It is thought that brain development continues for many years after birth. Recent studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language, and can actually wire the brain’s circuits in specific ways. Linking familiar songs to new information can also help imprint information on young minds.

2. There is also a causal link between music and spatial intelligence (the ability to perceive the world accurately and to form mental pictures of things). This kind of intelligence, by which one can visualize various elements that should go together, is critical to the sort of thinking necessary for everything from solving advanced mathematics problems to being able to pack a book-bag with everything that will be needed for the day.

3. Students of the arts learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions, rejecting outdated rules and assumptions. Questions about the arts do not have only one right answer.

4. Recent studies show that students who study the arts are more successful on standardized tests such as the SAT. They also achieve higher grades in high school.

5. A study of the arts provides children with an internal glimpse of other cultures and teaches them to be empathetic towards the people of these cultures. This development of compassion and empathy, as opposed to development of greed and a “me first” attitude, provides a bridge across cultural chasms that leads to respect of other races at an early age.

6. Students of music learn craftsmanship as they study how details are put together painstakingly and what constitutes good, as opposed to mediocre, work. These standards, when applied to a student’s own work, demand a new level of excellence and require students to stretch their inner resources.

7. In music, a mistake is a mistake; the instrument is in tune or not, the notes are well played or not, the entrance is made or not. It is only by much hard work that a successful performance is possible. Through music study, students learn the value of sustained effort to achieve excellence and the concrete rewards of hard work.

8. Music study enhances teamwork skills and discipline. In order for an orchestra to sound good, all players must work together harmoniously towards a single goal, the performance, and must commit to learning music, attending rehearsals, and practicing.

9. Music provides children with a means of self-expression. Now that there is relative security in the basics of existence, the challenge is to make life meaningful and to reach for a higher stage of development. Everyone needs to be in touch at some time in his life with his core, with what he is and what he feels. Self-esteem is a by-product of this self-expression.

10. Music study develops skills that are necessary in the workplace. It focuses on “doing,” as opposed to observing, and teaches students how to perform, literally, anywhere in the world. Employers are looking for multi-dimensional workers with the sort of flexible and supple intellects that music education helps to create as described above. In the music classroom, students can also learn to better communicate and cooperate with one another.

11. Music performance teaches young people to conquer fear and to take risks. A little anxiety is a good thing, and something that will occur often in life. Dealing with it early and often makes it less of a problem later. Risk-taking is essential if a child is to fully develop his or her potential. Music contributes to mental health and can help prevent risky behavior such as teenage drug abuse, which often leads to institutionalization in a teen rehab.

12. An arts education exposes children to the incomparable.

Ruth made me feel very comfortable, and the lesson went well. I learned quite a bit for just the 1st lesson, and expect to make good progress. Ruth played my violin and made it sound great, so I am looking forward to being able to do the same.
We went through some of the basics on tuning, parts of the violin, reading music, posture, arm position, and bowing. I think Ruth has good skills, a nice way with people, and would recommend her as a teacher.
