Singing
A wonderful experience

I took vocal lessons from David. I had taken some singing lessons when I was younger, but needed to brush up. I sing in a band, and David helped my song performance. I will be taking more lessons in the future.

He's amazing!

Both my daughters are learning guitar from David and they love it. I am impressed with their improvement and David even got them to "jam" together. When I ask them what they want to be when they grow up, they say they are going to be rockstars. I would gladly refer David to anyone searching for an enthusiastic and wonderful instructor.

As a private guitar instructor, my primary goal has always been the developm
ent of each students' musical creativity. Whether a student of mine hopes to become a songwriter, composer, or jazz guitarist or if they simply wish to learn guitar for their own enjoyment, I can guide them in the right direction. I firmly believe in the value of music theory, sight-reading, ear-training and music history. All of these aspects of music will be incorporated into each lesson. However, when I cover such material with students, I make sure that it directly relates to the style of music and/or material they are interested in learning.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect the student to provide his or her own guitar, amplifier and cables. I would be willing to bring books, charts, sheet music and anything else that would be needed to teach each lesson.

*** Specialties ***
Although I teach guitar styles ranging from jazz, blues and rock to classical and flamenco, I am most proficient as a classical guitarist/teacher. The majority of my training as well as musical interest is in this style.

A great first experience ...

John has been outstanding. He's very patient yet he keeps the train rolling. My son is a beginner but he has progressed very well and enjoys his guitar sessions with John. It has been a very positive experience. John is a great teacher.

Kenneth K.

Stockton, CA

I teach classical guitar. This means I teach how to read music and along with teaching chords. I believe this route is healthier for my students (especially the younger ones) and will not limit them in the long run. Teaching to read music is nothing new to me. I teach students on other instruments to read music and I apply the same techniques to the guitar.

About Kenneth

My philosophy of teaching has many facets:
1.) The students physical health must be taken into consideration when playing an instrument.
2.) Only through hard work and practice can a student make lasting improvements.
3.) Repetition is the key to long-lasting learning.
4.) A teacher needs to be a cheerleader and a task-master at the same time.
5.) I use the Suzuki Method in as many ways as possible along with reading exercises for most ages.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do have high expectations of my students, but I am considerate about schedules and family conflicts.

*** Studio
Equipment ***
Office/classroom, seating for parents, piano - it is his so reservations won't be an issue

*** Specialties ***
I am currently training with a violin/viola master teacher who specializes in teaching the Suzuki Method. I have been training with her since 2009. My method of teaching is applicable to every field in which I teach. I believe a musician produces the best tone with the most efficiency when their body is free of any unnecessary extrinsic muscle tensions. My students learn how to produce music in very healthy way. I don't listen for all my students to sound exactly the same, rather I listen for them to sound free of tensions.

Bogdan B.

Citrus Heights, CA

About Bogdan

I am a classically trained guitarist with more than 30 years of experience playing the guitar. My musical interests also include jazz, pop and bossa nova. I have played in several local bands and currently am a member of a jazz quartet.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am generally laid back in my teaching style as I believe music should be a source of personal fulfillment and happiness. However, I do ask my students to practice diligently. I use a standard curriculum, including Hal Leonard for beginners and right hand studies by Giuliani for more advanced players.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can pr
ovide a small practice amplifier for electric instruments during lessons, as well as sheet music for some hard-to-find pieces of classical guitar. I prefer students to have their own instrument and to buy their own music books.

*** Specialties ***
I have been a guitarist for 30 years. My primary interest is the classical guitar. I also perform in a jazz/bossa nova/pop trio. I generally do not use a pick as I have become proficient at fingerpicking.
