Joshua C.

Dallas, TX

About Joshua

Music has always been a part of Josh's life. He started playing around with instruments at the age of three and singing at the age of seven. He instantly fell in love with music and grew a passion for it. At the age of five he attended his first musical concert, Garth Brooks. Josh loved every minute of it and he could see himself on a stage like Garth Brooks in the future. One day he heard someone playing guitar down in an alley and from that day forward he knew he wanted to play that instrument and it would become his specialty. In high school he played in the jazz band and was the lead
guitarist. He also picked up the trumpet and played it in the jazz band. During his high school days music became his life and he created his own personal band. He wrote songs for his band and learned how to mix and record all of his own songs. When he graduated high school Josh pursued music in every way. He continued to play in bands and was on stage anytime he could be. Later he decided he wanted more schooling in music and he attended the Dallas Sound Lab for a year. While at the Dallas Sound Lab he perfected his recording and mixing skills. He won rewards for his mixing skills and also won battle of the band contests. Josh had a passion for music and wanted to share this passion with his friends so he started teaching his friends how to play guitar. While doing this he fell in love with teaching because he was able to see his friends face light up when they had accomplished a particular guitar skill finally after lots of hard work and practice. He loves seeing his student's reactions when they finally get it. Josh will create a passion for music in students and will teach them how to be successful in playing guitar or any Instrument that he is teaching. He has an abundance of knowledge he will share about music in general and the guitar along with any other instrument that he teaches. He creates creative lesson plans using his student's interest so he can hook them to their instrument. He encourages all of his students to become the most successful musician they can be. Josh looks forward to working with his future students and creating that passion that once was created in him.

*** Lesson Details ***
During each lesson the first rule is to always have fun! Whether its guitar, piano, or any other instrument you are trying to learn just have fun with it. I am a very easy-going and patient teacher, but I expect my students to always do their best which means practice. Practice makes perfect and if you put 100% of PERFECT EFFORT into your lessons than you will receive the best benefit. During my lessons if you are beginner I will get you familiar with your instrument. For example if you are playing guitar I will teach you how to tune it and maintain it. In the next lessons to come you will learn how to start playing the main chords that are used in most every song, and eventually you will be able to play your favorite songs. After you get familiar with chords/notes you will be on your way to songwriting. You will learn everything you need to know including music theory to write your own songs and to start performing them for your friends. As you are getting better you will be able to start recording these songs and sharing them with anyone you want to. In a few months you will be a perfectionist at your own craft whether that be guitar, piano, singing, songwriting, or anything else you want to learn about music. No matter what you want to know about music I will be able to show you in a fun learning environment which will lead to you wanting to know more.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room recording equipment, guitars, amps, and seating. Free parking is available

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to have a guitar or instrument that they want to learn so the student can practice outside of lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Songwriting, guitar lessons, voice lessons, piano, and Baseball

Very Helpful Singing Instructor

Josh has been teaching me singing for 3 months now and I feel like i've made a world of improvement. He works with me to find what my problems are and how I should go about fixing them. I think that any level of singer will be able to learn a lot from him.

Awesome guitar teacher!!!!

Josh is a great guitar teacher. He is patient when he needs to be and makes me work hard when he needs me too. I have learned a great deal about guitar taking lessons from Josh. Not only do I know how to play guitar but he also teaches me the theory behind the music and for a bonus he teaches songwriting also. Everything you need to be the best musician you want to be. I would definitely recommend Josh to anyone who wants to start learning guitar. He can teach all ages so don't wait.

Thomas S.

Richardson, TX

About Thomas

Hello, I'™m Thomas, but most people call me T. I started taking private drum lessons when I was 6 years old from Lucy Flohr. Ms. Lucy was one of the most influential and important people in my development not only as a drummer but in life as well (she's the lady in my profile picture). I met her at 6, and we'™re still friends 30 years later.
After Lucy I started lessons with professors at UNT (which in those days was NTSU). My glam band, Skin Deep, was getting major record deal offers, but it was 1992 when grunge took over. So under guidance of our attorney we didn'™t sign any offers. W
ith my high hopes deflated and a musically defeated heart I had to make a change. So instead of going to UNT to study music which I had been being groomed to do, I chose to go to Austin and attend UT. I graduated from UT in 1997 with a degree in psychology and decided to move to Los Angeles to follow my dream. My band broke up about a month later, but I formed a new one (Milkweed, which morphed into a blue grass band after I left, now called River Rouge) and got an indy record deal. We released "Milkweed....For Breakfast" on my birthday in 2000, and we did lots of regional touring for the next 3 years. Then I moved back to Dallas and joined JackAcid. We released "Life Through a Crazy Straw" on another independent label and toured regionally for a few years. Next was Crossing Ellum, which was fronted by Matthew JC (Founder of Emmy winning Small Guy Music and œMatthew JC and the All Stars). I spent several years playing with a heavy rock band named Social Jab that unfortunately ended before we released our CD titled S3V3N Years... I currently play in Marquis of Vaudeville.
I started teaching classmates in 7th grade and continued through high school. Then I took a hiatus from teaching with just a student here and there during college and my touring days. Now I'm back to teaching more than I'm playing, and I love it! I believe music is a phenomenal gift to us all in every facet, from listening, to learning, to creating, to performing, and it'™s an honor to be able to share my knowledge and experiences to help others learn to appreciate the blessing of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are catered to each individual student. If you want to learn theory, we will start from the beginning. If you just want to learn how to play your favorite songs, then that's what you'll learn. Your personal goals for drumming determine how I teach you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In-home music room w/ two drum kits (if needed) and seating for parents. Piano, guitars, bass, and recording equipment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide any manuscript paper necessary for first lesson, then I would expect students to purchase a blank manuscript book along with any books chosen to study.

*** Specialties ***
My lessons are catered to each student's goals.

I have been taking lessons with Thomas for a year and a half. He is very patient and explains things very well. I had no drum experience before I met him. I can read music and play better than I ever though I could for the limited amount of time I have been paying. I highly recommend Thomas for adults and kids. I have a busy work schedule and he has been gracious and flexible with my schedule.

Fantastic Teacher for Kids

My 8 year old son has been taking drum lessons from Thomas for about 4 months and he very much enjoys it. What I really like about the lessons is that Thomas custom designs the next lesson based on how the student is performing in the current lesson. His homework assignments are very detailed which is great because I, as well as my son, know what he should be practicing during the week. I can definitely see a big improvement since my son started and I have no doubts he is getting a solid foundation in drums as well as music theory. Thomas is a super nice guy and very patient which makes him fantastic for kids. My wife is a music educator and she is just as impressed with Thomas as I am. We highly recommend him.

Awesome teacher

I have been taking lessons from Thomas for about 4 months. I knew nothing about drums when I started. I have learned so much so fast. T's teaching style is flexible and he is able to adjust the way he explains things so I understand. I have so many light bulb moments in the lesson and when I am practicing at home. He is professional and a lot of fun. My drum lesson is one of the highlights of my week. T is not only teaching me how to play the drums, but how to not be so hard on myself. We laugh a lot and I always leave feeling great about my lesson and that I have accomplished something. I am an adult student and would recommend him for any adult or kid. I can see how young people would relate to him as well. He is laid back, but very professional and knows his stuff. I have recently moved 30 minutes away from him, but will continue to make the drive because he is awesome and worth the drive.

Melissa M.

Richardson, TX

About Melissa

Hi! My name is Melissa and I can't wait to help you embark on your musical goals! After 18 years of teaching and performing, I have learned what works and what doesn't. More importantly, I understand that each student is different. What works for you or your student may not work for another, so it is important to recognize those differences and update my instruction technique based on each student's needs. I also have a long resume of performance experience that aids in my ability to prepare my students for all avenues including recitals, ensemble performances, professional auditions, and prep
aration for college. I personally hold two degrees in music and have studied with some of the most sought after coaches.

My Studio Policies
-- I do have a 24-hour lesson cancellation policy. If a student fails to provide adequate notice or misses a lesson unannounced, the student will be charged for the full lesson cost.

-- Students are responsible for the cost of their own music, lesson books, and lesson materials. I am happy to purchase the items at a discount but all items must be reimbursed in full at the time of delivery.

We were having divorce issues and needed a summer activity. It was impossible to schedule something with my ex husband so I searched online and found Melissa. My daughter has been to 6 classes and absolutely has loved every single class. I love to hear my daughter sing downstairs and after 6 classes she wants to continue. Thank you for all that you have done and I look forward to more lessons with you. I will recommend you to all of my friends!

Brian M.

Garland, TX

About Brian

I am a Dallas-based cellist and private cello teacher. In 2011 I earned my Master's degree in Cello Performance from Southern Methodist University, where I also earned my Bachelor's degree. My focus as a cellist is as an orchestral player, and I currently play with the Austin Symphony, Las Colinas Symphony, and Waco Symphony. Outside the realm of classical music, I play with a "sophisticated" bluegrass band for Arlington-based singer/songwriter Heather McCready with Milo Deering, and occasionally with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band" led by Dave Walser. I believe music is a gift that shou
