Graduate of Harvard College, and current student at the New England Conservatory, I have been studying music for almost two decades. I grew up performing in youth orchestras as a violinist, and have since become proficient at the drums, guitar, and piano. I started playing at 10 years old, and have since performed in numerous orchestras/jazz groups as a percussionist. My style builds off the work of John French, Mitch Mitchell and Steve Gadd, combining elements of traditional jazz drumming with more contemporary forms of rock and punk music. I have a strong background in music theory, and I am eager to provide others with a basic framework through which they can develop and hone the skills demanded for a variety of musical languages, and more importantly to become self-reliant students of music.
I have over 10 years experience teaching drums to all different ages. I received the “Outstanding Youth Advocate” award from Berklee College of Music's Community Affairs Dept. in 2014 for teaching at the Boys&Girls Club in Allston, MA. I perform a lot around the northeast U.S., spanning a diverse spectrum of styles.
If desired, I can teach out of several books - including Garwood Whaley - Musical Studies for Intermediate Snare Drummer, Charley Wilcoxon - The All-American Drummer: 150 Rudimental Solos, Charles Dowd - Funky Primer for the Rock Drummer, and Tommy Igoe - Groove Essentials 1.0+2.0
Or I can teach without any books as I have a wealth of knowledge in me!
I teach rudiments, hand+foot techniques, coordination exercises, grooves - stemming from rock to funk to jazz, bossa nova, samba, west african, and much more.
