About Priscilla

I love people of all ages. And I love helping them discover what beautiful things they can create in the world of music! Music is such a powerful way to express ourselves, and I love helping others learn how to do this and really enjoy it.

I have played piano since I was three. When I was able to read at age four, I began lessons, and the rest is history. I graduated from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music with a degree in Piano Performance and completed a Master's degree in Piano Performance at the University of Redlands. I love to perform, have written several songs, produced th
ree CD's all with original music that I perform, and have just completed a fourth CD featuring major classical piano works arranged with favorite hymns. I have also written a musical and am in the process of having it produced.

I have sung in choirs of all types and accompanied them on the piano as well for many years. I have worked extensively in Musical Theater, serving both as Musical Director and Accompanist for shows such as Sound of Music, Annie, and many others.

I love seeing people get touched with music and love to help others create and perform music that really speaks to the heart. It's my passion. I teach all styles of music, and love teaching children, adults, and everything in between!

My goal for the students is for them to feel good about themselves as musicians and to be able to express themselves and reach the highest level of performance possible for them.
The students have the opportunity to perform regularly in recitals as well as other venues, and we have a lot of fun! Lessons are a great experience for us all.

*** Lesson Details ***
I use a standard curriculum for students that teaches the basic concepts of music and gives them creative pieces to use in the process. I expect my students to practice, and reward and encourage them to do so. I believe that positive affirmation is the best teaching tool, so I use that as my main basis for teaching, along with discipline and being challenged appropriately. I love helping people create, so my main goal for a piece is to help the student learn to perform it in the best way possible, with plenty of technique and lots of expression, to really make it their own so they and the audience can really enjoy it.

My students are usually ready to perform at least two or three major pieces of their level at the end of six months. I give them material to challenge them and encourage them to progress. Not too much, not too little! I teach self-confidence as one the biggest tools they can use to help themselves improve.

Come join us in our studio! We have a great time together discovering what we can create in the world of music.

I teach in my own private studio with an upright Weber piano excellent for teaching beginning to advanced piano skills and spacious room for voice lessons.

Priscilla is a very patient, motivating and kind teacher. I'm an adult student who had taken years of piano lessons in my youth. I already knew the basics but had picked up a lot of bad habits from not practicing correctly.

Priscilla helped me break some of those habits and helped me get to my next level of playing.

She believes in the importance of making whatever you're playing sound beautiful. This makes the lessons fun as you're working on making music instead of just practicing the same boring technical exercises over and over.

Besides being a great teacher, she's also very professional and kind. You can expect her to be very organized and always prepared to give a great lesson.

I am very proud of knowing Priscilla and introducing her to be my son and nephew’s piano teacher. She is a very professional, responsible and high-level teacher. She loves teaching and loves to pass her music passion to her students. What’s more, she is also a composer. I love her solo CDs which have become my home and car background music, in which people can feel the elements of calmness, happiness, purity, maturity, delight and gratefulness, all beautiful alive feelings from life. Being instructed by such a wonderful teacher with beautiful inner spirit, no wonder all her students play beautiful music

About Joshua

Music has always been a part of Josh's life. He started playing around with instruments at the age of three and singing at the age of seven. He instantly fell in love with music and grew a passion for it. At the age of five he attended his first musical concert, Garth Brooks. Josh loved every minute of it and he could see himself on a stage like Garth Brooks in the future. One day he heard someone playing guitar down in an alley and from that day forward he knew he wanted to play that instrument and it would become his specialty. In high school he played in the jazz band and was the lead
guitarist. He also picked up the trumpet and played it in the jazz band. During his high school days music became his life and he created his own personal band. He wrote songs for his band and learned how to mix and record all of his own songs. When he graduated high school Josh pursued music in every way. He continued to play in bands and was on stage anytime he could be. Later he decided he wanted more schooling in music and he attended the Dallas Sound Lab for a year. While at the Dallas Sound Lab he perfected his recording and mixing skills. He won rewards for his mixing skills and also won battle of the band contests. Josh had a passion for music and wanted to share this passion with his friends so he started teaching his friends how to play guitar. While doing this he fell in love with teaching because he was able to see his friends face light up when they had accomplished a particular guitar skill finally after lots of hard work and practice. He loves seeing his student's reactions when they finally get it. Josh will create a passion for music in students and will teach them how to be successful in playing guitar or any Instrument that he is teaching. He has an abundance of knowledge he will share about music in general and the guitar along with any other instrument that he teaches. He creates creative lesson plans using his student's interest so he can hook them to their instrument. He encourages all of his students to become the most successful musician they can be. Josh looks forward to working with his future students and creating that passion that once was created in him.

*** Lesson Details ***
During each lesson the first rule is to always have fun! Whether its guitar, piano, or any other instrument you are trying to learn just have fun with it. I am a very easy-going and patient teacher, but I expect my students to always do their best which means practice. Practice makes perfect and if you put 100% of PERFECT EFFORT into your lessons than you will receive the best benefit. During my lessons if you are beginner I will get you familiar with your instrument. For example if you are playing guitar I will teach you how to tune it and maintain it. In the next lessons to come you will learn how to start playing the main chords that are used in most every song, and eventually you will be able to play your favorite songs. After you get familiar with chords/notes you will be on your way to songwriting. You will learn everything you need to know including music theory to write your own songs and to start performing them for your friends. As you are getting better you will be able to start recording these songs and sharing them with anyone you want to. In a few months you will be a perfectionist at your own craft whether that be guitar, piano, singing, songwriting, or anything else you want to learn about music. No matter what you want to know about music I will be able to show you in a fun learning environment which will lead to you wanting to know more.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room recording equipment, guitars, amps, and seating. Free parking is available

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to have a guitar or instrument that they want to learn so the student can practice outside of lessons.

Very Helpful Singing Instructor

Josh has been teaching me singing for 3 months now and I feel like i've made a world of improvement. He works with me to find what my problems are and how I should go about fixing them. I think that any level of singer will be able to learn a lot from him.

Awesome guitar teacher!!!!

Josh is a great guitar teacher. He is patient when he needs to be and makes me work hard when he needs me too. I have learned a great deal about guitar taking lessons from Josh. Not only do I know how to play guitar but he also teaches me the theory behind the music and for a bonus he teaches songwriting also. Everything you need to be the best musician you want to be. I would definitely recommend Josh to anyone who wants to start learning guitar. He can teach all ages so don't wait.

Carol D.

Dallas, TX

Focus is on improving style, range, agility, flexibility and protecting your voice.

About Carol

On singing and performing: I've been a musician for a very long time and can testify that music heals on a mind, body, and soul level! Though my official performances in front of audiences started with playing woodwind instruments such as clarinet, sax, and flute from elementary school through high school in band, my primary instrument in earnest has been voice for the past 27 years.

However, my Mom told me that I have actually been singing--well, humming (a recognizable tune at that!)-- since I was nine months old. I've lead numerous solos in small ensembles and large choirs over the years
, and was very involved not only with the adult music ministry at my church, but directed the children's choir as well. I'm a huge fan of arranging and creating harmonies for duets, trios, and small groups. I’ve shared the stage with Erykah Badu, Ruben Studdard, Rickey Dillard, Chrisette Michele, Ledisi, Peabo Bryson, and CeCe Winans.

I love musical theater, and my favorite credit has to have been when I played the role of "Mama" in Once on This Island (though Nunsense runs a very close second!).

I have a strong passion for the arts--music in particular, and have the musical talent and enthusiasm to guide, empower, and improve the vocal tone, projection, and pitch for the willing student.

*** Music Lesson Details ***
Every student is different--diversity is the spice of life! I tend to tailor my teaching style to the needs of the student. I do expect each student to work on their craft outside of "class" (even if it's just 10-15 minutes of practice a day) and come eager to learn. My teaching style is a co-creative process when it comes to helping students reach their goals. My demeanor is gentle and humor-filled, yet firm. Whether you're preparing for an audition (with all the mental, emotional, and physical energy and health that goes into it), want to hone your harmonizing skills, or just want to strengthen what's already inside of you to the next level for fun, I can help!

It's very important for my students to have a lot of fun as they are singing into their power and gaining more confidence not only in their vocal tone, projection and pitch, but in life as a whole!

*** Specialties ***
My specialties are gospel, pop, R&B, vocal harmonies in small and large groups, and jazz, though I have been classically trained by some of the best vocal coaches over the years.

On being an economist: Economics has been my trade and training since 1993. I've been an analyst at the Florida Legislature as well as consulted in the private sector, but my first love has always been teaching. I've been teaching the intro to micro- and macroeconomic classes consistently since the beginning of 2007 at Southern Methodist University. The algebra comes up a lot in these classes, so I've often ended up tutoring students one one in algebra as well. I was thrilled when TakeLessons added academic tutoring to their offerings in addition to music lessons. :)

***Economics and Algebra Lesson Details***

My students range in varying analytical and mathematical ability, so I meet them where they are when they come to office hours. Sometimes it just takes creating something concrete and practical from something that appears to be quite abstract. Sometimes it's catching up on the math. My approach is the same for any one-on-one endeavor outside the classroom. My goal is for each of my students to succeed!

Carol is a wonderful voice teacher. She is easygoing and patient. I have been taking weekly lessons with her since June of 2014 and have increased in my range. I now attend every other week.

I am a mezzo-soprano but used to always sing in alto range, but now I am more comfortable singing in my range or sometimes higher. Also, I am already naturally talented but needed some guidance in knowing when to breath through phrases, increased range, and holding notes long enough to make it sound more beautifully.

She has helped me a lot. I truly recommend her for beginners or those of you who are already talented and just need to tweak things up a bit. She's amazing. I enjoy her as a teacher. Thank you Carol!

I have been singing as long as I can remember and teaching for more than 20 years.

Because the voice is uniquely individual, my approach to each student is strictly based on their needs as a vocalist. I listen to each student and develop a program for development based on the needs I hear as well as the desires of the student.

Of course, good technique is universal and there are some exercised I use with all of my vocalists to develop good habits.

About Lisa

I have been a music teacher and private lesson instructor for the past 17 years. I have a bachelor of science degree in Music Education and hold a teaching certificate for all-level Music Education. In my private studio I have taught students from 3-70 and have enjoyed them all! In addition to teaching music I also serve as the Music Minister for my church. Students coming to me can expect a tremendous amount of experience as well as a committed, honest and caring teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning piano students I like to use the Alfred series, supplemented, of course, with
songs/styles of music that interest the student.

Guitar, clarinet, and oboe students can expect to begin with the Essential Elements series as a primer and introduction. I've had a lot of success with these books.

Voice students are a bit different in that I don't use a specific method to instruct. I have many books that I draw from when teaching voice due to the unique nature of the individual. Depending on the style of music, from classical to jazz/pop, I have music that will teach proper breath support, vowel placement and tone.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio: converted dining room with 3 guitars, young percussion instruments, upright piano and f/w keyboard. Seating available for parents.
Music ministry at First Christian Church in Terrell. Access to choir room with upright piano. Seating available for parents.

*** Specialties ***
Degree in all-level music education with specialty in voice.

I've taught singing to children, teens, and adults since 2006. My Masters degree training has afforded me the opportunity to be well versed in effective vocal techniques that will help you succeed. My main goal is to help you to develop your own set of tools, and better understand your unique voice as an artist. Make sure to wear clothing you can move in during our sessions, and, most importantly, explore and just have fun!

About TOYA

I have taught acting to small children, teens, and adults in community, private, and collegiate settings. I taught acting at the legendary Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. My love of the arts has enabled me to study and perform in various cities throughout the US; including Los Angeles, where I studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, to Europe, Mexico, South America; then back to New York City, where I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School.

I currently work professionally as an actor, singer, and TV
and radio host. I've been fortunate enough to work in film, TV, theater, musical theater, hosting, commercials, improv, and voice-overs. I am also a vocally trained mezzo-soprano. Because I am still a working artist, I can not only teach you craft, but can assist you in making the right choices to navigate your own way in the business. I offer private coaching to actors in theater and film, and singers in the US and abroad. I would love to share my knowledge and experience with you.

I offer private coaching to children, teens, adults who have an interest in acting or singing performance, and for those who simply have an interest in performing or speaking in front of others. In addition to coaching those who wish to better their skills in acting, voice and speech, and singing, I also offer coaching for non-actors; i.e., attorneys, business professionals, teachers, politicians, pageant participants, and other creatives, who want to improve their public speaking and communication skills.
