David S.

Highland, MD

David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David

David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Baltimore, MD. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 18 years he has been performing (13 of those professionally) and playing guitar, he has released 4 CDs and written over 200 original songs. He has opened for major national acts like Journey, Maroon 5, Toby Keith, My Chemical Romance, The Used, Thrice, Story of the Year, The Bouncing Souls, Eric Hutchinson, Virginia Coalition and Graham Colton. In the process, he ha
s performed at such notable venues as FedEx Field, Nationals Park, Jiffy Lube Live/Nissan Pavilion, the 9:30 Club, Rams Head Live and the Recher Theatre.

As a teacher, David has taught in numerous locations in the Maryland area for the last 16 years. His students generally range anywhere from 4-70+ years old and come from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of proficiency, from basic beginners to advanced. Some of his students have also gone on to pursue careers in music, others have just learned as a hobby, and some have been somewhere in between the two. All are welcome!

As a professional musician of 45 years I have the ability to guide anyone and help them focus on their musical goals
For beginners the basics of rhythm, musical styles and practical fretboard knowledge are essential. Sight reading is always stressed but not necessary.
For more intermediate and advanced students we will pursue more technical styles as such as Funk, Rock, Jazz and Classical repertoire depending on the students needs or desires.
My goal is to have my students playing quickly and understanding what it is they are trying to accomplish

Scott is not only an incredible bassist and musician, but he is an passionate and willing teacher. He was able to tell right away what my strengths and weaknesses were as a musician, and he began to strengthen my weak points while improving my strong points as soon as the first lesson. No teacher in the past has been able to push my musical boundaries the way Scott has, and he has always found a way for me to understand even the most complex musical ideas. He has many years of experience to call upon as he teaches, and he never fails to show his wisdom.

Scott is an awesome musician and a great teacher! I am actually a trumpet player who meets with Scott (as often as possible) to learn jazz improvisation from a true master.

Scott has a gift for making complicated things seem easy. In a jazz improvisation lesson he told me, "The trick is to keep the melody in your head, while you're creating a completely new melody." This one suggestion has completely changed my playing - and I hope - made me a much better jazz player.

He is an excellent musician, one of the best bass players around. He plays so VERY musically and swings really hard. If you have an interest in learning the bass, Scott is one of your best options.

If you're looking for lessons, I definitely recommend you go to Scott! This is the first time for me taking singing/voice lessons, and the first day I didn't comprehend all the music terms when I was being asked, I felt like such a newbie but he explained well, was patient and understanding. I'm sure I am a very frustrating person to work with overall hahah but he is very professional. If you sign up for lessons I guarantee you will learn something from it and make improvement progress on whatever it is you're signing up for!

About Joe

RockSmith Journey is a fun, energy-packed and safe environment where kids are encouraged to love God, music, their band members, and their electric guitar or bass. My desire is to partner with parents to teach kids (6 & Up) basic music skills using technology, Rock, Blues and Worship and this to serve as foundation for their musical growth and performances in their lives.

I truly believe in Victor's music philosophy that music is a language and Rocksmith is the perfect tool to make the whole process approachable and fun for young kids while still providing experienced guitarists plenty of
tools to experiment with. In the beginning, we embrace mistakes. instead of correcting them... LIKE A CHILD PLAYING AIR GUITAR, THERE ARE NO WRONG NOTES.

I encourage you to watch 3 youtube videos:

1. Victor Wooten Music as a Language

2. Benji plays electric guitar.

3. John and Thomas playing with Bill Withers. A'int no Sunshine.

I believe God is the source of all truth and musical abilities. Everyone can be Grounded in notes, scales and chords, learn to be Reliable with band members, very Entertaining when performing; Available when called upon and most importantly, Teachable.

Let's Play & Grow Together,
Joe B.

Joe's lessons have made a tremendous, positive impact on our seven-year-old son, Thomas. A year ago, Thomas expressed interest in learning guitar after seeing the musicians at church. We connected with Joe to arrange for some lessons. Following Joe's instruction, supplemented with practice at home, Thomas has become a devoted guitar player, learning chords and songs along the way. He now improvises a little on his own with chords and is even keeping a journal of different chords he has learned. We highly recommend Joe, and his method of using the RockSmith game on the XBox is uncanny - the game is sophisticated enough for an adult, yet very accessible for someone Thomas's age. We plan to keep up with Joe for the foreseeable future.

Learn Guitar Now: How to Read Tabs
Although learning to read sheet music is a valuable skill for any musician, most guitarists prefer to use a different type of notation known as guitar tablature or guitar tabs. Guitar tabs give a basic visual representation of the neck of your guitar and use numbers to indicate which notes are to be played. Learning how to read tabs is pretty simple, and, once you get the hang of it, you can easily learn new songs or write down compositions of your own. How to Read Tabs Guitar tabs are
