About Chelsea
I have a Master's in Music Technology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and a Bachelor's in Music (Technology and Recording) from the University of Indianapolis.
I started on the piano when I was in elementary school. I began playing the clarinet, my primary instrument, in 6th grade. I then started playing the saxophone in 8th grade and started playing the flute in high school.
I also teach beginning trumpet and ukulele lessons. These are secondary instruments for me so I only teach beginners, but I can help you get started! I have played trumpet on my own off and on for years and I play a couple times a month with local ukulele groups.

Chelsea did a great job at our first lesson! She was patient and encouraging. She gave my daughter good suggestions on how she could improve and things to try in areas she was struggling. My daughter felt so much better after the lesson. We will continue to take lessons with Chelsea

The private lesson experience is unique in that it allows for more “customized” instruction that group lessons or rehearsals alone are not able to give. The instructor and student work one on one as a “team” toward the ultimate goal: a better understanding of their instrument, and a higher level of musical development.

In every lesson, we will work to improve technique, tone production, and listening/music reading skills, among other things. I will assign exercises and/or pieces each week that are meant to challenge, not overwhelm! Sometimes I will assign an exercise that is expressly meant for a particular area in which the student may not be the strongest, in an effort to develop that area. Learning an instrument is a skill that takes time to develop, and it is within the journey where most valuable learning takes place!

About Amanda
Amanda is a professional Pittsburgh-area flutist and private teacher. She has served as principal flutist with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic as well as second flute/piccolo with the Undercroft Opera. She has also served as a substitute flutist for the Edgewood, Westmoreland and Johnstown Symphonies. Amanda also performs with the Dolce Appassionato Trio, a chamber ensemble comprised of flute, cello, and piano. She is active as a soloist, performing in a variety of venues throughout the Pittsburgh region.

An ardent advocate of early music and historical performance, Amanda also plays the baroque flute. She has performed in masterclasses for internationally known baroque flutists Kim Pineda, Janet See, and Barthold Kuijken.

Amanda received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Seton Hill University, and a Master of Music de
gree in flute performance from Duquesne University, where she studied under Damian Bursill-Hall of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with a Masters and Graduate Diploma in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

Rebecca is the friendly, passionate and knowledgeable teacher. She is always well-prepared, and suggests great solutions about the problems that I have. I got many invaluable tips from her. I am very sad that I cannot take her lessons anymore due to my moving to other city, but I highly recommend her lessons.

I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching at Rhode Island College. I studied Oboe Performance at Longy School of Music for a year before decidingto pursue education further (I love teaching too much!.) I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. This was my boys first lesson and they loved it. They were so excited after class. Telling me that it felt way to short and that they are eager to have more lessons with Alyssa.
I’m also very pleased as she is a warm and welcoming person and I had an easy time communicating with her about what exactly I am looking for, our schedule, and also difficulties with entering our first lesson.

The boys will definitely, and with joy, continue their music journey with Alyssa.

Our daughter had taken in person lessons for years. When her instructor retired we really didn't know what to do. Bassoon instructors aren't very common where we live. She was very nervous about taking on line lessons but Alyssa put her at ease. It seems like she could really relate to Alyssa.
Alyssa really helped her get through many of the issues she was having with a new instrument and new high school band.
We will go back to her again for sure!

I teach flute lessons in the heart of Mount Vernon, just a few blocks away from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. With four years of teaching experience and a wealth of creative knowledge gained from my time at Oberlin College and Conservatory, my teaching caters to every age and ability. In addition to studying at Oberlin (and now Peabody) I grew up in a very musical household, and have two younger siblings.

New York-born Flutist Amanda is a versatile performer active as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician. Amanda was most recently named the first place winner of the National Society of Arts and Letters Woodwind Competition in Washington, DC. She has also received first place awards in the Best Mozart Performance category of the global Great Composer Competition Series, the 2014 Central Ohio Flute Association Young Artist Competition, the 2013 Rochester Flute Association Emerging Artist Competition, the 2012 Donald E. Webster Scholarship Competition, and the 2012 Stefan Scholarship Competition. In 2015, she was invited to participate in the Third International Maxence Larrieu Flute Competition, taking place in Nice, France, and was one of only three flutists invited from the United States.
Amanda is currently a substitute flutist wit
h the Canton and Firelands Symphonies, and appeared as a guest principal with the Canton Symphony for their March 2018 Masterworks Concert. During her studies at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, she was principal of the Oberlin Orchestra, and performed in the orchestra at Chicago Symphony Center as a part of their 150th-Anniversary tour. At Oberlin, Amanda appeared frequently as an ensemble-member for faculty concerto recordings. She has appeared in the Schikele Bassoon Concerto and the Augusta Reed Thomas Bassoon Concerto released on the Oberlin and Naxos labels on the album Full Moon in the City. She has also appeared in recordings of the Carter Flute Concerto and the Trigos Guitar Concerto No. 1 (forthcoming releases). In addition to her orchestral opportunities at Oberlin, Amanda has attended the Pierre Monteux School and Festival, the Miami Summer Music Festival, and the Bach Institute at Emmanuel Music.
To supplement her love for performing, Amanda has also been active in the field of Arts Administration. Co-founder of the Oberlin Flute Association, Amanda spent two years bringing prominent flute artists to Oberlin. This included advertising in the Cleveland area, managing a strict budget, and organizing all details of the artists’ visits. She also worked at the Oberlin Concert Productions office as assistant director and program editor, and was administrative assistant with Oberlin Conservatory Summer Programs. She is currently a staff member in the Peabody Career Services office, providing professional development support for students at Peabody.
She has recently graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory, where she received a Bachelor of Music in flute performance and a Bachelor of Arts in biology as a part of the college’s double-degree program. She encourages, she finds analogies to explain, she is more patient with me then I am with myself. She also explains the terms, gives tips on how to read the notes. She is able to identify the mistakes and give the right advice on how to improve. Her advice on how to practice made all the difference for me. I started with a giant cookie bite sized embouchure and within a few lessons I have managed to make it smaller thanks to her instructions. There is hope for me afterall.
Looking forward to playing a duet with her without me making a mess. Thank you Amanda!

Amanda is an outstanding teacher. She inspires and challenges me to play pieces I did not think I could play. She is able to take difficult passages and break them down step my step so I can learn how to play them properly. I am sure I would not be playing as I am now, if it weren’t for Amanda’s skilled teaching. She is also friendly, makes the lessons interesting and fun and is very professional. I have been teaching lessons for 12 years, to beginners to conservatory level students. I am a performing musician with a BA in music education and music performance, as well as a MA in Flute performance. About Melanie
As a professional flutist, I've performed with orchestras, and do a lot of chamber music, including new music. I've performed with piano, guitar, harp for both Celtic and classical, cello, woodwind quintet, string quartet, choirs, jazz piano trio, and free improvisation with cello and bass. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia for music performance and music education, and got my Master's degree in flute performance from the Hartt School of music.

My philosophy of teaching: I teach music because it is unique and necessary. Students learn best in a relaxed, nurturing environment. I believe in order to successfully teach, I need to be encouraging, and truly care about the students. My goal is to always have the students improve. To do this, I think students need a well-balanced diet of tone (Moyse De la Senorite can be used), technique (
scales for younger students, Maquarre Daily Exercises or Taffanel and Gaubert Daily Excercises for more advanced students), etudes (Melodious and Progressive Studies), and pieces (I consult the NYSSMA manual for appropriate pieces for the students level). Having taken Alexander Technique, I strongly emphasize posture so that students can use their bodies in the most efficient way. Individualized instruction allows for teachers to cater to the needs of the student, challenging the students without frustrating them. Everyone is unique and learns at different rates, so no two lessons will ever be the same. I teach students how to practice, so that they can progress outside of the 30 min. or hour long lesson. As for performance standards, I have used rubrics for tone, technique, articulation, phrasing, and breathing. Once strengths and weaknesses are assed, I create a plan to help the student improve, which is what students and teachers want to hear.

Flutist John Ross is an accomplished soloist, educator, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He taught on the faculty of West Virginia State University and currently teaches for the Music for the Sake of Music summer program in Green Bay, WI. He has been principal flute of the Italian-American Opera Festival Orchestra (CA), the Charleston Chamber Orchestra (WV), and has also performed with the Muncie Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony, and the Charleston Light Opera Guild. Dr. Ross has appeared as soloist with the WVSU Wind Ensemble, the Florida State University Symphonic Band, and the orchestra of Music for the Sake of Music. His flute ensemble Silver Lining Flutes toured around Costa Rica in Spring 2017, performing and giving masterclasses as part of the Promising Young Artist of the 21st Century series.
