My first instrument, many years ago, was the flute, and I credit it with showing me how wonderful learning music can be. Whether you are starting your musical journey or have been playing for years, I can help you take your playing to the next level.

About Cory
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even
if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instruments and music.

*** Specialties ***
Classical

I teach flute at the New School for Leadership and the Arts. I'm happy to work with beginners who are also learning how to read music and play in ensembles.

I teach to the abilities, passions, and ambitions of the individual student, ever pushing their musicianship and proficiency on the instrument.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

I have been teaching flute for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I look forward to working with you.

About Doyle
Hello, my name is Doyle B. and I am eager to help you reach your goals! I've been teaching private lessons since 1992 and have loved helping my students win competitions at the state level, learn how to advance rapidly on their instrument, and fall in love with making music. I have 3 earned degrees from Pensacola Christian College (B.S. in Music Ed., 1992), Hobe Sound Bible College (A.A., 1993) and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Church Music, 1996). I have experience teaching all of the band instruments, violin, guitar, and piano. I'm an enthusiastic, upbeat person who greatly enjoys working with people of all ages. I presently employed at Hobe Sound Bible College and Christian Academy. I presently have 4 students in China and the Turks and Caicos Islands that I teach using Skype. Fortunately, I have a few openings
in my schedule to teach any one who is serious about excelling on his/her instrument. I look forward to helping you reach your potential.

I offer flute lessons for the beginner-intermediate student, where together we'll work on scales, breath support, basic theory, and repertoire. Lessons should always be fun, so we forget that we're secretly working so hard!

About Alyssa
Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

I have been teaching lessons for 12 years, to beginners to conservatory level students. I am a performing musician with a BA in music education and music performance, as well as a MA in Flute performance. I have successfully prepared students for NYSSMA as well as for college music auditions. I teach the foundations like great tone, breath support, articulation, rhythm, note reading, theory, and my favorite, musicality! I cater each lesson to each individual student's needs and goals, and above all, instill a life-long love of music.

About Melanie
As a professional flutist, I've performed with orchestras, and do a lot of chamber music, including new music. I've performed with piano, guitar, harp for both Celtic and classical, cello, woodwind quintet, string quartet, choirs, jazz piano trio, and free improvisation with cello and bass. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia for music performance and music education, and got my Master's degree in flute performance from the Hartt School of music.

My philosophy of teaching: I teach music because it is unique and necessary. Students learn best in a relaxed, nurturing environment. I believe in order to successfully teach, I need to be encouraging, and truly care about the students. My goal is to always have the students improve. To do this, I think students need a well-balanced diet of tone (Moyse De la Senorite can be used), technique (
scales for younger students, Maquarre Daily Exercises or Taffanel and Gaubert Daily Excercises for more advanced students), etudes (Melodious and Progressive Studies), and pieces (I consult the NYSSMA manual for appropriate pieces for the students level). Having taken Alexander Technique, I strongly emphasize posture so that students can use their bodies in the most efficient way. Individualized instruction allows for teachers to cater to the needs of the student, challenging the students without frustrating them. Everyone is unique and learns at different rates, so no two lessons will ever be the same. I teach students how to practice, so that they can progress outside of the 30 min. or hour long lesson. As for performance standards, I have used rubrics for tone, technique, articulation, phrasing, and breathing. Once strengths and weaknesses are assed, I create a plan to help the student improve, which is what students and teachers want to hear.

My expertise is in jazz improvisation and doubling. If you are looking for somebody to teach you the Poulenc Sonata, there are other qualified teachers. If you are already a great sax player and you need to get your flute chops up for a broadway gig, I'm your guy!

Most of my professional work involving flute usually is accompanied by a clarinet, bass clarinet, or saxophones, so I am an expert on any combination of those instruments. I do not play double reeds.

About Hideaki
In a perfect world, every minute of practice propels you forward. In my personal experience, I've had lulls in my progress where I just stay afloat for a few months. My job is to diagnose what's happening and optimize the way you are practicing at home.

Please hear my playing on my website before signing up for lessons.
