About Shawn
Hello! I am a professional working drummer with over 20 years of performing and teaching experience. My current band, Eight To The Bar, has been the winner of Best Band Connecticut for the past 5 years straight. We perform internationally in many venues, including festivals, casinos, and concert halls. The repertoire is diverse and challenging, drawing on the traditions of R&B, Swing and Motown.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons with me will be fun and constructive. I gear my lesson plan to your individual needs with a strong focus on fundamental technique, proper grip and stroke as well as helping you find your balance and relaxation behind the kit through posture and ergonomic set- up.

We will be able to explore the techniques of your favorite drummers. Through my wide range of experience I will be able to give you the skills nec
essary to function within your favorite genre of music. At the same time, I may introduce you to some forms of music less familiar to you. You can then use that experience to bring a fresh approach to your chosen style.

The name of the game is time-keeping and time feel. You will be expected to practice with a metronome, but also with recorded tracks. We will record your playing and listen back. This is one of the best ways to improve your playing.

Double bass and/or double pedal also taught as well as left foot clave, Latin percussion, piano, and music theory.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two drum sets, full PA, fender rhodes piano, congas, timbales and hand percussion, frame drums, bongos, DVD player, audio recording capabilities. Parents can sit in on lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring a practice pad set to the student's home. Metronome, ipod, some lesson handouts, and occasionally DVD's will also be brought.

*** Specialties ***
All styles and levels: rock, jazz, Latin, percussion as applied to drumset. Reading, time feel, counting and singing

About Kristin
Hello!

I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and Performance from Drake University in Flute and Piano. Currently pursuing a Master's in Music Therapy.

At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs.
I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.

I started to play the flute and piano in second grade, and
my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.

I enjoy sharing what I've learned, and learning from my students as well.

I am excited and thrilled by the opportunity to work with you!

I enjoy working with most of my students, especially those who practice hard. I find all students unique and they response differently to my requests or questions. I feel that very often I need to react spontaneously to their responses. For the beginners I mainly focus on reading musical notes and learning correct rhythmic values. With beginners who haven’t played the piano at all I teach finger exercises written finger numbers only. Then I use Piano Adventures theory, lesson, technique and artistry, performance, and popular music books. Although Alfred’s and Bastien’s methods are well known, I prefer Piano Adventures because they introduce the coordination of right and left hand in more progressive manner. At the beginning the following will be covered.
• Postures at the piano, finger numbers, high and low on the keyboard
• Music alphabet, Intervals
• Musical form, Dynamic marks
• Staff; line notes, space notes
• Time signature, accent mark, legato, staccato
• Basic chords ...

I've been teaching piano for 2 years both privately and through schools. My goals as a teacher are to impart both a thorough understanding of the instrument as well as love for music to my students. I do this by making my lessons fun and tailoring them to each student's interests and skill level. My approach is simple: if my student walks away understanding the material present, I've done my job. If this means I have to explain it in 19 different ways, then so be it!

About Josh
Hi, there! My name is Josh and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2009 and have loved helping my students master an instrument, accomplish their goals, and have a blast learning music. I went to Manhattanville College and earned a BA in Jazz and Classical guitar performance in 2012. I'm a hardworking and dedicated teacher and my teaching style is straight forward, fun, and tailored to you. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

My youth and adult piano students study using a thorough method that utilizes technical exercises, music theory study, and appropriate repertoire.

About Mark
I am an active performer eager to teach organ, piano, voice, and general musicianship skills to youth and adults. Private lessons are given at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester. I also teach in-home piano lessons. My students have gone on to undergraduate and graduate performance schools and hold full-time positions in churches, schools, and other performing organizations around the country. I believe music is not only an aesthetic pursuit, but also a primary way to develop one's sense of self-esteem, community, trust, openness, and character. Building skill as a musician exercises the brain, builds logic, and fosters discipline.

Mark is a treasure. After our daughter’s very first organ lesson, she adopted better practice techniques and keener musical interpretation skills. Mark is witty, kind, personable, generous, and of course talented. He is a role model both as a musician and as a person. A. also started taking voice lessons with Mark, and her growth both as a singer and as an organist has been exponential as a result. We count ourselves fortunate to know Mark, and we are grateful that he is our daughter’s teacher.

Graduate with a Music Composition degree and Piano Performance focus from Samford University. Soon to pursue my Masters at the Longy School of Music at Bard College in the Fall of 2017. Currently living in Frederick, Maryland. Experience teaching students from age 6 to 14 of both beginner/intermediate level. From a pedagogical standpoint I believe equally in students loving the music and product they are creating as well as fundamentally understanding the theory, technique, and practice method conducive to efficient and fast learning. I am also very open to teaching students about writing music and letting them use the full potential of their creative abilities. Of course, each student is different so lessons are individually tailored to meet students where they are and how they wish to progress. Undoubtedly there is also such importance in creating an environment that allows students to grow a love for music, feel comfortable learning at their own pace, express themselves through the

About Maggie
I am a graduate of Samford University with a degree in Music Composition and Piano Performance. I will be continuing my education by pursuing my Master in Composition at the Longy School of Music at Bard. I have studied classical piano and composition for 9 years and actively study, perform, and write classical and contemporary music. I was a 3 year member of an internationally acclaimed A Cappella vocal ensemble. This past year we toured the Baltics and received the top honors Grand Prix award - as well as 5 others - in Lithuania. I have written music for short film, have had my classical work performed by groups such as Sybarite 5, The Amernet String Quartet, and numerous professional music faculty and students. I have had my own personal songs (singer/songwriter) played by radio stations from Maryland to New York, and was a guest artis
t on WTMD's Baltimore Hit Parade in 2015 - performing and getting to talk about my and other music as well. I am also currently in a popular electronic music duo called the Halter Kids, based out of Birmingham, Alabama.

I firmly believe in fostering an intrinsic love and passion for music in students as well as teaching them the fundamental skills that will allow them to progress effficiently and quickly. In studying both Piano and Composition, students will have the benefit of receiving lessons structured not only around keyboard pedagogy but how to reach their full creative potential in writing as well.

Each students is different and it is important to meet them where they are and tailor the lessons in a fashion that is best for them. That could look like lessons focused on classical music technique and repertoire, practice methods, sight reading, or music theory. Or more contemporary methods such as reading from lead sheets, more improvisatory exercises, ear training, and writing music. Whatever fits the student best is the quickest path to getting them to understand and love this art.

I am open to working with students of all ages, experience, and goals. I am a musician of Classical Performance, Composition, Jazz, Songwriting and Singing, but regardless of the genre am extremely passionate about teaching students to find their own path and voice as a musician!
