I enjoy working with most of my students, especially those who practice hard. I find all students unique and they response differently to my requests or questions. I feel that very often I need to react spontaneously to their responses. For the beginners I mainly focus on reading musical notes and learning correct rhythmic values. With beginners who haven’t played the piano at all I teach finger exercises written finger numbers only. Then I use Piano Adventures theory, lesson, technique and artistry, performance, and popular music books. Although Alfred’s and Bastien’s methods are well known, I prefer Piano Adventures because they introduce the coordination of right and left hand in more progressive manner. At the beginning the following will be covered.
• Postures at the piano, finger numbers, high and low on the keyboard
• Music alphabet, Intervals
• Musical form, Dynamic marks
• Staff; line notes, space notes
• Time signature, accent mark, legato, staccato
• Basic chords ...

My name is Christine and I am a piano performance major at University of Rhode Island. I am a classical pianist, very advanced in music theory and I can also read sheet music very well and fast. I have been playing piano for 16 years and taught by various professors from Hong Kong, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I also have intermediate knowledge in jazz piano and would be able to teach that as well.
I like to be able to expand your music knowledge as well as making you a better pianist. In order to expand your knowledge, I will teach you various things in music theory that will help you have a better understanding of what you are playing. Music theory is part of the lesson, so please don't be alarmed that you aren't playing piano for the entire lesson.
If you allow me, I will do to the best of my ability to fulfill your musical potential.

About Christine
Hi! I am Christine. I am a very goal-oriented person and I believe that practice makes perfect. I am a professional pianist who is currently focusing on classical but I can play or teach any genre.

I have worked with vocalists, chamber ensembles, to a full orchestra and many more. I started playing piano at a young age of 5, and discovered a sincere passion for this instrument being taught by world-class musicians. As I grew older, I grew a much deeper appreciation into the theory which has allowed me to understand music SO MUCH MORE! I would love to share my skills and knowledge with you, hoping to make you the best player you can be and develop the passion that I have developed for the piano.

My availability is very flexible, however, I can commute to anywhere reasonable in order to teach you. For intermediate to advanced pianists
, a binder is required to each and every lesson.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you and I look forward to meeting and working with you.

We are a husband and wife piano teaching team that enjoy seeing children grow as they expand their musical skill set. We are firm believers of learning the fundamentals. We teach all ages and levels, and want our students to be having fun!

And if your piano needs a tuning, we do that too!

It is great getting a student to think and analyze the task at hand. It might seem too hard at first, but I will walk the student through the process of figuring out how to play a piece. Learning music gives you a lot of skills applicable to everyday life.
