My first instrument and my first love. Started at age 10 and was teaching by age 15

About Randall
My love of music and musical talent was discovered when I was just five years old. An uncle gave me a plastic recorder and, without lessons or help from anyone, I was playing melodies within days. Soon after I started taking private lessons on Saxophone and Clarinet.
I played my first paying job at age 14.
When I was 15, my private instructor, asked me if I would be interested in teaching. He put me on the County list of private instructors and and soon I had my own thriving studio of Sax and Clarinet students. From that time on, I have almost continuously been involved in music education.
Though I had listened to the rock "guitar gods" of the 60's I never became interested the guitar until, at the age of 15, I first heard Maestro Andres Segovia through his televised master classes. About the same time, I was amazed by the chord
melody genius of jazz artists like George Van Eps, Joe Pass, and Bucky Pizzarelli. It was then I realized that the guitar could be an "orchestra."
In the small town where I grew up, there were no guitar teachers so I studied with outstanding Guitarist Ed McGuire. Later, I studied formally with several renowned professors of guitar, including Bruce Holzman at FSU and Randy Reed, a professor at Duke University in Durham North Carolina.
I have also performed in Master Classes for Classical Guitarists Atigoni Goni and Dimitri Diatchenko.
Before making North Florida my home, I toured and played throughout the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast in a variety of venues and styles from Rock to Jazz to R&B.
Even after settling down I have stayed active in the music business, playing and teaching. I continue to work regularly performing solo, or in ensembles throughout Florida from Tallahassee to Jacksonville.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher who prefers to motivate my students by instilling my love of, and enthusiasm for, music in them rather than using any kind of "scare" tactics. I had a very few "knuckle rapper" style teachers over the years and found them to be very unmotivating.
A large percentage of the progress a student makes happens between the lessons. The more they practice, the faster they improve.
I also believe in building a solid foundation that my students can build upon. A good teacher teaches a student how to teach themselves.
On guitar, I encourage, but don't insist on, my students learning to read music. Some styles of guitar do not require it, but I do mention the gigs I have gotten over the years because I could read.
On all instruments, I am a big believer in great technique, musicianship and improvisational skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio is in back of the house as an addition. It has its own separate entrance and is approx 160 sq feet. Well lit and with heat and air.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide a music stand if needed. Students must have their own instrument. They will need to get their own books, though I do provide much supplemental material.

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Classical, Blues, Flamenco

This teacher is impossible to get a hold of. Tried leaving several voicemails and text messages. He has a couple different phone #'s. Don't know which, if any, is the active # to use. No response from him ever. Couldn't reschedule because of this. Plus he lied and said I never contacted him. Now I am out a ton of money for lessons I wasn't able to use. Very greedy. I am not happy.

I have been teaching saxophone for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

I specialize in rock, blues and jazz, and I use my own method for teaching which takes 10% of the usual time of most methods. I have a video that demonstrates that.

At the bottom of this page, I have a YouTube video of 3 of my sax students' incredibly fast progress. None of them had ever played saxophone, You can do that too! It’s easy and fun. No boring scales, exercises and dumb tunes. Just a simple, easy way to becoming a great sounding sax player in 1/10th the time. This method has worked for over 1000 students and works 100% of the time if you commit to practice.

I teach based on what you want to learn on the saxophone. We can work on any style including but not limited to Classical, Jazz, Afro-Cuban/Latin Jazz and/or any other styles of interest. Regardless of what style or genre we study we will always study core techniques of the saxophone which will increase your skill such as tone production/warm-up principles, technique including finger dexterity, scales, music vocabulary, tongue/finger correlation and full range capabilities of the instrument.

About Josue
Hi, there! My name is Josue and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2004 and have loved helping my students accomplish self-expression, accomplish performance goals, and breaking through previous limitations. I went to Indiana University Jacob's School of Music and earned a Master's degree in Music in 2012. I'm a people's person and a caring person and my teaching style is patient, selfless, and informative. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

How will our lessons work? I customize them completely around what you want to get from them. Some students are focusing on the Classical genre meanwhile others want to learn how to improvise and play commercial music. Whatever artistic direction you want to focus on I can guide you.

Studying together you will benefit by developing a warm, deep and
robust sound through exercises such as long tones, tongueless starts, overtones and mouthpiece exercises. We will also focus on instrumental technique by utilizing technical material found in etudes, arpeggios, patterns, scales, solos and many other sources. Reading music is key to performing on the saxophone so we will address sight reading and answer any questions you may have toward rhythm, time signature, rests and note duration. Articulation and time-feel is of the utmost importance when expressing yourself through the saxophone and we will grow from listening to and analyzing the phrasing of world class musicians. You will familiarize yourself with time feel through utilizing the metronome while playing and learning how to internalize it.

Through fun work and self-discipline you will feel so proud of yourself that you have learned how to communicate and speak your emotions through your saxophone as if it were your own voice. I can't wait to help you feel that gratification of accomplishment, see you on the other side in the classroom!

My lessons adhere to classical pedagogy with an emphasis on reading notation, as well as applied ear training. Whether you haven't picked up the instrument yet, have been playing recreationally on and off for a few years, or study at the collegiate level, my approach builds student's classical repertory, tone production and voicing for all registers, fast technique, and accurate intonation. I always use a variety of fundamental exercises alongside pieces that teach what the student is working on

About Kyle
I don't just teach students how to play an instrument, I teach students important creative techniques for developing musical skills. Making music is a life skill that helps children and adults of all ages realize, develop, and utilize their expressive and creative talents. In my studio, I focus on the union of music theory, history, and performance no matter the piece! Kyle gave me a few lessons during my college woodwinds methods class on the sax. As a pianist attempting to learn a wind instrument Kyle's advice and time were a HUGE help to a total beginner like myself. He definitely knows the sax inside and out and without his help my sax test grades in woodwinds would have been considerably lower than what they were. Saxophone lessons with me will be tailored to the individual needs of the student. We can go as slowly or as quickly as needed.

I focus on a healthy blend of technique, musicality, music theory, and ear training to foster a complete musical education. In general my lessons will focus on classical saxophone, jazz will be touched upon but not the focus.

About Alyssa
Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

With over 5 years of professional teaching experience, and 10 years of professional performance experience, I am well equipped to give saxophone lessons to students of all skill levels! I tailor my students' lessons to their specific needs and interests, while ensuring development of proper embouchure and technique. I am able to teach classical saxophone, jazz, rock, blues, and other genres, as well as music composition.

About Brandon
Composer and saxophonist Brandon has emerged in the music scene as a pioneering jazz and classical musician. His unique style of jazz composition and publications in the field of quarter tone music set him apart from the crowd.

Brandon is well-known for his advancements in the field of quarter tone music. His book, Quarter Tone Technique for Saxophone, is the first of its kind. This book explorers the possibilities of this music and its application on saxophone farther than anyone else in the past has. His unique compositions use this extended technique to create new sound atmospheres which were previously unexplored.

Brandon, along with Evan Smith, co-leads Ghost House, a six-member modern jazz group known for its original compositions. His compositions for this group explore his own modern composition ideas, while remaining true
to the rich tradition of jazz music.

Brandon is a member of The Dirty Bohemians. This is a funk/hard rock group led by Zach Birnbaum. This group is well-known in New Jersey as a tight group with high-calibre original compositions.

Brandon is also a member of The Third Arrangement, a fusion/rock group led by Nate MacAdams. This group performs originals and well-known rock/fusion songs.

Brandon performs in a variety of venues, including Chris’s Jazz Cafe, the Washington Banquet and Catering, Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro, Shanghai Jazz, and the Tuckahoe Inn, as well as Rowan University, NJMEA Convention, and the University of Maryland. He is based in South Jersey, where he primarily performs, but he also occasionally travels out-of-state.

Brandon began studying saxophone as a teenager, both as a classical and as a jazz musician. He attended Rowan University for a performance degree in Jazz Studies, where he also studied classical saxophone technique, as well as music composition, where he studied with Timothy Powell, Denis DiBlasio, Carl Cox, and Roberto Pace. During the early years of his career, he performed regularly in his home state of New Jersey.

In 2014, Brandon received the Bill Walters NJJS Jazz Scholarship through the New Jersey Jazz Society, where he was invited to perform at the Shanghai Jazz restaurant with a group from the William Paterson University. He also performed at the 2014 NJMEA Convention with the New Jersey Intercollegiate Jazz Band. In 2016, Brandon was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda honors society.

I have known Brandon since 2012. We entered Rowan together to major in music. Brandon has always been the "go-to" saxophonist at the music department. He is widely knowledgeable not only in music but also in several academic aspects. Definitely a fun person to work with, and to talk to. I am completely sure that if you take lessons with Brandon, you will not only grow as a musician but also as a person.
Without having finished at Rowan, Brandon has already written and published a book. This speaks not only of his self-motivation, but also about the seriousness with which he takes his career as a musician. Students who chose to study with him will surely be influenced by all of his positive aspects.
Definitely recommended!

I have worked with Brandon since 2014 in several diifrrent music settings, and have taken a several lessons with him on saxophone (I'm a keyboard player). He is a consumate professional to play with and learn from.

When teaching, he is very good at explaining what you need to change, and how to do it in an easy to understand way. He is also very nice and encouraging, and inspired me to do better in my playing. He is punctual and will work with you to make things work for all involved, and has a fair rate for lessons.
