"I love watching young musicians grow into seasoned players and have had tremendous success with all my students. I believe that learning songs and playing music is a critical element in the learning process of becoming a good drummer/pianist, and musician. This is why I bring a powered PA speaker, mp3 player, and (sometimes) a guitar to my lessons for the student to play along with and learn familiar songs. Over the years I've learned to strike a balance between Reading/Rudiments and Playing/having fun, so as to maintain students interests and growth."

As a teacher. I have been a high school teacher for the past 20 years and am certified in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a history teacher. I have worked with all types of learning styles and test preps. As an educator, I have gone through all the background CORI checks already.

I have a B.M. degree from Berklee College of Music and have been teaching students these ins and outs since 1982. I can help you unravel music's myriad mysteries, too!
I also have over four decades of experience as a professional jazz, rock, and theater musician. My experience has taken me from nightclubs to concert stages to churches, as well as television studios, radio stations, and many recording studios.
Finally, I am a published author with several titles dedicated to helping musicians becoming the best they can be.
**** MY TEACHING STYLE ****
My teaching style is often referred to as laid-back, gentle, informative, and very supportive. My focus is on enrichment, encouragement, and results.

I teach real music -- students begin playing music they love almost from day-one. For example, many of my piano and guitar students pride themselves on learning to play every song on the Beatles One album ... playing right along with the CD! Reading, playing by ear, improvisation (jamming), singing while you play ... there are so many ways to play and avenues to explore in music.
**** MY STUDIO ****
My studio is spacious (very spacious – no cubicles here!), well-appointed, and very quiet. Unlike music stores and multi-lesson facilities, there are no other lessons on the premises, no drummers going crazy on the other side of the wall. This means students can concentrate better and learn faster. There is also plenty of room for parents and siblings who may wish to sit in on lessons.
**** STYLES / GENRES ****
I believe that students make the most progress learning music they love and I am very happy to teach every student the style of music he or she loves most.
My most requested genres are: pop, rock, country, blues, classic rock, jazz, and classical. Some students arrive knowing exactly what they want, but most are happy to explore various styles that interest them in search of the perfect fit. It is not at all uncommon for a student to spend part of their lesson polishing up a Beethoven piece or jazz standard, then finish up playing the chords to “Hotel California” along with the CD. Another student might start off their lesson learning a Taylor Swift hit, then move over to doing some blues improvisation. Variety is a wonderful thing and it is highly encouraged!
**** MY STUDENTS ****
Over the years, I have taught students from four years old to eighty-somethings. I’ve taught absolute beginners (most of my students start from square-one), hobbyists, seasoned professionals, even a Grammy nominee and a Grammy winner! Many of my young students have gone on to perform in school bands / jazz bands and/or professionally. In all cases, they acquire a skill that will last for a lifetime and provide joy, enrichment, and satisfaction.

Hello! Teaching students at beginner and intermediate levels of music theory, I feel I can provide a solid foundation and understanding of the basics and some of the more advanced concepts and schools of thought in music theory. My experience writing songs will also provide you with a basic set of skills for writing your own.
Through our lessons, you can expect to learn or solidify your knowledge of music theory basics and move through history and the development of music to build an understanding of how music is written, as well as learn some basic composition skills.
I've recently graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Music from Rhode Island College, and am continuing pursuit of a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. I've studied Classical Percussion with Michael DeQuattro at Rhode Island College, as well as drum set with Michael Odabashian, drummer for Zander Bleck and Kicking Harold. I've performed solo and with many groups in New England and abroad, including, but not limited to: the New England Intercollegiate Band, the Rhode Island College Symphony Orchestra, the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble, and American Music Abroad's 2013 Liberty Tour of Europe.

Interested in composing and improvising music? Recent New England Conservatory graduate has a unique training in Composition, Jazz Piano, and Music Theory. This is coupled with real world professional experience including his time playing with main stage entertainment, accompanying broadway style singers, and performing nightly solo lounge piano throughout Alaska, Canada, and the Caribbean. His curriculum nurtures the dialectic between love, passion, and excitement being the forefront of musical studies, and a stern understanding of the practical necessities required if a student wishes to take the pursuit to a conservatory and/or professional level. Jeff’s teaching career began coaching musical theater students at the Theater Arts Workshop in his native Westchester County, New York. While still in his early teens, Jeff maintained a busy performing schedule, participating in and having works performed by ensembles such as the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Jazz Big Band and Small Jazz Ensemble and the InterSchool Orchestras of New York Symphony. He was concurrently selected to conduct a six week internship directing the school bands in his own elementary and middle schools. During the summers, he worked as a counselor at summer music festivals such as the New York State Summer Music Festival and French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts. During his time at NEC, Jeff completed another semester-long teaching internship, which included mentoring a college student at Emmanuel College in music reading skills, piano, and music theory. Since his recent graduation from NEC in May 2018, he has kickstarted a private music teaching studio in a pursuit to give back to the musical community from which he has learned so much.
