Up for the challenge...

I am a professional musician, playing several different instruments and singing most of my life. I never picked up the guitar until a year ago. I'm not the traditional student who wants to learn rock 'n' roll, but am instead a lover of classical music. From day one, Adam worked with me to find out my skill level and taste in music. He challenged me to learn amazing pieces, played in finger style #I highly recommend#, and even taught me a few songs from the rock genre. Adam has a cool demeanor and makes learning guitar interesting and fun. What I learned from Adam in just a short time amazes me, and I know he can teach even the most challenging student.

Cindy W.

San Jose, CA

I began teaching piano to children in my neighborhood when I was in 7th grade and continued teaching through high school. I used the John Thompson method along with a note speller and taught on a baby grand piano. After several years, I returned to teaching piano not only to children, but to adults as well using the Alfred All-in-One method. Currently, I teach piano at my home studio on a grand piano and at three private school campuses four days a week in an after-school program. With everyone I teach, my specific goals include helping students gain proficiency in sight-reading, rhythm, and playing with expression. Through the process of teaching, I identify what the student is interested in as far as style-of-music is concerned. For example, I have a child that is interested in playing jazz, so along with teaching the basics, I include a jazz pieces. Overall, I want my students to love what they are doing with their music and I strive to achieve this.

About Cindy

Music can inspire creativity and growth; it can evoke tranquility and joy. This was the case for Cindy W. who began playing the piano at the age of ten and within a couple of years studied composers such as Debussy, Liszt, Bach, and Chopin. While only in junior high, she started teaching piano, rapidly gaining teaching and business experience. She held annual recitals giving the students an opportunity to perform for their parents and peers in a public setting.

Cindy studied music with Rachel Perez-Hayes, a graduate from the Juilliard School of Music, New York, and was considered gifte
d and talented with perfect pitch recognition. Her background in music coupled with a Master'€™s degree in Educational Psychology has enabled her to create unique lesson plans for each student focusing on individual strength and ability. Cindy has performed in concerts, weddings, parties, churches, and school functions. Her entire life has been enriched with music and it is her passion to promote the arts to young minds as well as adults.

*** Lesson Details ***
Cindy teaches private 30 or 45-minute lessons from the beginning level to advanced. Students are taught using the Alfred all-in-one piano course because it is a step-by-step method that provides a solid foundation for playing and interpreting music while building self-confidence and an appreciation for the fine arts. Students typically learn how to read music and play pieces from their book while learning music theory, ear training, and rhythmic skills. Students have the option of performing in front of an audience or simply learning how to play for their own pleasure. Cindy coaches those desiring to play publicly in a non-threatening, relaxed manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room, grand piano, and keyboards available, room for parents to wait

*** Specialties ***
I have taught using the John Thompson and the Alfred piano course methods. I prefer using the Alfred method because it gets the students comfortable playing on the black keys from the start.

Brianna J.

Campbell, CA

I use a variety of piano methods, depending on the skill level and desires of the student. I am well rounded in both classical and popular literature at these levels. I will work with students to select materials that are effective and enjoyable.

About Brianna

Music has been a large part of my life since I first started taking piano lessons at the age of six. In fifth grade, I learned to play the flute, and I performed in bands all the way through college. In high school, I also picked up the violin, and enjoyed playing in orchestras as well. I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Education and my California teaching credential from Biola University in Southern California. During that time, I enjoyed playing many other instruments. My primary instruments are the flute, piano, and violin, although I also play several other instruments.

In ad
dition to giving private lessons, I also teach school band and orchestra, so I bring the added perspective of a conductor who can help students learn how their part fits in with the whole ensemble. I have taught elementary, middle school, and high school band and orchestra, as well as clinics and small group classes.

Currently, I teach music in a local school district. I also enjoy occasional performance opportunities. I have years of experience teaching private lessons on several instruments to students of all ages and backgrounds. I love to help students experience the joy of music, whether it is as a future career, or simply as a hobby. My goal for my students is to learn and grow as musicians, and to have fun in the process!

*** Lesson Details ***
I approach teaching private music lessons in a way that is both fun and productive. Students will find my personality to be very warm, encouraging, and easy going. I am genuinely passionate about helping students reach their musical goals, whether they are career oriented or simply as a hobby. I am well versed in a variety of literature on each instrument that I teach, and will help students find enjoyment in learning to make music at any age. I believe in having a strong foundation in the basic fundamentals of music technique and also in the importance of playing styles of music that are both fun and rewarding. It can certainly be challenging to learn a new skill, but with hard work, determination, and fun motivation, it will certainly be worthwhile!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Open living room setting. Upright piano. Couches for parents. Parking nearby. One small, friendly dog (stays in another room during lessons).

*** Specialties ***
I am very well rounded in both popular and more traditional styles of music. I do not necessarily insist on teaching from any one particular series of method book, although I am familiar with several. I will work with each student to determine which method books are most appropriate and also suggest supplemental materials. If you already own a book, have a particular one in mind, or are already playing from a certain book in school, that is fine, too!

We choose Briana because we like her background as a music teacher for a school district. We are looking for someone who's resourceful and have ways to encourage kids to enjoy and love music. We hope not to just learn & practice one piece after another, but find someone who can influence, introduce and educate. Our first meeting went very well. My daughter, who's generally very quiet and reserved, likes Briana's warm, upbeat and encouraging approach. We are looking forward to our next lesson.

Lilly K.

Santa Clara, CA

Piano is my secondary instrument and I've been teaching it for the past year. I've helped my students develop a love for the instrument as well as general music theory. I got through the different aspects of music, how to read and understand the different signs and symbols, step by step and make sure to give students enough material to practice. The book I like to use is piano adventures as well as works by Teleman, Chopin, and Mozart to start students off.

About Lilly

Hi there!
I am really excited that you've decided to take music lessons and are here on my page looking for an awesome teacher. I have lots of experience in music and I can't wait to teach it to someone else, whether they're a kid or an adult.

Currently I am attending graduate school for a Masters in Public Health so I can save the world later. ;) My undergraduate degree was in psychology. I've spent a lot of time in school and music has been the one medium through which I have relieved stressed and made myself happy, inspired, and relaxed. While going to school, I also continued my music
by being a teacher as well as helping out with the university orchestra.

Started music at a young age of 8, with my first instrument being the Flute followed by the Piano. Because I began music with a teacher who was studying music academically, I have a very strong background in theory, technique, and tone. At the same time, I really think its all about having fun and loving what you play/learn.

I have taught adults and children so I do feel comfortable with any age group. I also have a pretty vast repertoire of different books and pieces that I use for different levels and ages.

My philosophy is for the learning/teaching experience to be a complete collaboration between me and the student. I am tough with certain things because I know they're super important to master but I like to also bend certain rules so that my student is happy with the classes.

I hope to hear from you and if not, I hope you find a really awesome music teacher!

Cheers,
Lilli
