Ryan H.

Moreno Valley, CA

About Ryan

I have been playing the piano for 7 years, but have been involved in the musical institution for much longer than that. I am currently pursuing my bachelors in classical piano performance from California State University of Dominguez Hills, with not much longer to go. I have also been shaping minds young and old in piano technique and music theory for the last three years. And, I believe I am an ideal teacher for anyone just starting out, to those who are trying to continue from where they left off.

*** Lesson Details ***
My first and foremost goal is to inspire a student to want to learn
and thrive in their instrument. If I can do this, my job along with theirs, becomes that much easier. I try and do this by heavily incorporating the music that they identify the most with, while strengthening their technique with a classical foundation. And, introduce a well rounded set of incentives for each of their accomplishments.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide sheet music and books, I expect the student to provide the instrument they would like to take lessons on.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Contemporary, Popular Song

Jessie M.

Pasadena, CA

This course is for those who are new to piano. You will learn how to read music, play, and some basic music theory.

About Jessie

Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to his or her individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career. And the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of music that will always enrich their lives.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degre
e at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women the Musical, Seussical the Musical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer at churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to perform and study music because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it.

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life then they WILL achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having FUN doing it!

John M.

Redlands, CA

I have 14 years of experience in classical piano and I absolutely love to teach music! When teaching piano, I strive to help my students obtain a solid understanding of the piano, and help them build skills in reading, performance, proper practice techniques, and musical techniques. I also introduce them to a wide variety of repertoire and implement ear training and theory into my lessons so they can become a well-rounded musician. My students are also able to apply what they have learned to their specific musical interests. I teach with a mixture of the Kodaly and Dalcroze methods, and I believe in engaging my students visually, auditorialy, and kinesthetically, so they can have the best learning experience possible!

About John

*** Specialties ***
Hi, there! My name is John M and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have loved helping my students build a solid foundation and understanding of music, as well as developing their skills to become well rounded musicians. I also help my students learn to enjoy practicing and performing. I went to the University of Redlands and earned a degree in Music Composition in 2014. I'm a fun and friendly person and my teaching style is constructed in a way that will appeal to visual, aural, and kinesthetic learners. I am very interested in Kod
aly's method of inner hearing and music literacy. I also use warm ups that will help my students develop proper playing techniques, and I teach my students how to play with expression, and emotion. I strive to teach at the best of my ability, work hard, and share my love for music with others. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Katie Y.

Redlands, CA

During my lessons, my student should expect to leave feeling confident and that he or she has learned something new. My students will always be making constant progress!

About Katie

I have been teaching young students piano for two years. Currently, I am working towards my BA at Cal State San Bernardino for a music education degree, and am currently the president of the Cal State Piano Society. I have been playing piano for fourteen years and love every aspect of music. My goal is to pass my passion for music onto my students, and allow them to develop a deep appreciation and understanding for all genres.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a strong believer in making the learning process fun and enjoyable. I want my students to be motivated to learn and practice as much
as possible. My teaching style consists of starting with the basics (technique, theory, and reading music) then graduating to style and phrasing. My students will always leave our lessons feeling accomplished and confident. Learning an instrument is hard work, but with enough effort and commitment, anything is possible!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Baldwin Upright Piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to provide a piano and the required materials (i.e. metronome and music books)

*** Specialties ***
I believe that technique is very important when it comes to piano. I start with teaching the basic scales, hand positions, and good posture. Then I begin teaching music theory, in which the student learns how to read notes, rhythms, dynamics, etc. Once the student becomes proficient in reading and technique, I give them more difficult pieces in order to work on style, voicing, and phrasing.

Victoria has been an assistant elementary music teacher for the Redlands School
District since 2010, as well as maintaining a large private flute and piano studio consisting of students of all ages.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to have fun while they learn music literacy and the wonderful art and technique of playing a new instrument. I am friendly, positive, and upbeat in my teaching, yet I also maintain high standards for my students. I have a very warm personality and and very patient with my students, but of course I challenge them as well! I also put on a recital for my students at least twice a year so that their friends and family can appreciate the hard work they have put into their musical development. Performance venues for my students have included retirement homes, universities, and community centers. I encourage chamber music and organize for my students to play duets, trios, or quartets with each other.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stand, keyboard/piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
Flute students must have a music stand and instrument. Method books and sheet music will be discussed and decided upon in lessons.

Piano students MUST have either a real piano OR an electronic keyboard with WEIGHTED KEYS, and must be a full keyboard of 88 keys. Failure to secure an appropriate instrument within the first 3-5 lessons will seriously effect the students' ability to retain the information we will learn in lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained flutist and pianist. I also have experience in playing jazz music and improvisation.
