Jessie M.

Pasadena, CA

This course is for those who are new to piano. You will learn how to read music, play, and some basic music theory.

*Lessons at my studios are taught on a keyboard

*Piano book for beginners required

About Jessie

Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to his or her individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career. And the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of music that will always enrich their lives.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degre
e at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women the Musical, Seussical the Musical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer in churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to stay active in the performance industry, because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it.

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life then they WILL achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having FUN doing it!

My daughter in 3rd grade really enjoyed this lesson! Jessie was very nice and kind and Kira even had the opportunity to sign in the first session. These lessons are super convenient for parents that are tired of traveling in the car to non-stop places during the day. Would definitely recommend Ms. Jessie.

Omar G.

Riverside, CA

I've been teaching music for 15 yrs on guitar, piano, bass, cello and bass. My students have ranged from from 5yrs to 75yrs of age. I have seen many student go on to join orchestras, bands, broadway shows or simply continued their education to a university or college. Being able to read music profeciently has given me the opportunity to teach off many method books but like to use Alfred Method, Mel Bay and Frederick Noad Method books. I teach many styles ranging from classical, jazz & blues, rock, contemporary and pop. I do stress and recommend all my students to learn how to read music and usually by our second or third lesson they will playing simple songs. I am here to help you make music!

About OMAR

Knowing that you are looking for a instructor to teach you music puts a smile on my face. You see, music has been a part of my life since the age of 3. Some of my first memories are of me accompanying my father at home with his rehearsals or just singing together to have fun as a family. I believe music is a gift that unites people together bringing out our deepest emotions that words cannot express. At the age of 5 I received an organ and from that point on I embarked on a long life journey to indulge and learn more about music. In elementary, junior high and high school I was involved in an
y subject dealing with music. I joined school choirs, orchestras, bands, marching bands, jazz bands, musicals you name it. While enjoying all school music activities I was selected to join in honor county and state orchestras and choirs. In junior high and high school I was selected to play for the Junior Pacific Symphony Orchestra, received scholarships to music summer camps, and was selected musician of the year. In college my quest continued with the Orange Coast College Orchestra, Praise Symphony Orchestra, Vanguard University Orchestra as well as guitar ensembles and college choir groups. I've also taken private lessons from Dr. Art David (Julliard graduate) in stand up bass as well as David Black (Pacific Symphony Orchestra) and classical guitar with Richard Glenn and David Murray. I've been teaching now for 15 years in guitar, classical guitar, bass guitar, stand up bass, cello, piano and voice ranging from 5 yr old to 65 yr old. My styles of music range from classical, jazz, rock, blues and contemporary. At this point I'm enjoying playing and singing in my church choir and worship team as well as teaching my two kids the joys of music. I hope you truly enjoy the joy of learning music whether it be through me or another teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I require all students to set time aside to practice. For without it, it is only wasting your time, your money and my time. I don't expect a total dedication to it but I do want to see some effort put into it. A little practice can go a long way and the more you do it, the faster you will progress and the more you will enjoy it. We will first start off with what you want out of music and the level you are at and go from there. Student can bring their own music either thru tabs, music sheet or just by ear but one thing I do expect is a student to learn how to read music notation. We will go thru the regular warm up exercises, material practiced during the week and any new music for the following week. Correct techniques in how to hold your instrument or voice procedures will be addressed. Music theory will also be part of the lesson as well as ear training. At the end of either 3 to 6 months you will have learned the basics of music and will be playing songs for you or someone else to enjoy. I will make it a total relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere but some dedication has to put on the students' part.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated music room, guitar both classical and electric, piano, cello, upright bass and electric bass guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instrument. I can also provide music stand, small amplifier if needed and music material for the first few lesson until student provides for him/her self. Student must have own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
My way of teaching would have to be that they must learn how to read music while learning how to play an instrument.

Barry J.

Yucaipa, CA

About Barry

With many years of experience in both piano and vocal performance in Los Angeles and in England and my teaching in the Inland Empire, my students experience a rich and rewarding time of learning.

I received my formal education in piano performance from the Royal Academy Of Music in London and in Rhodesia. I also attended the Kwanagoma College Of music in Rhodesia and studied organ under the famous Dr. Olaff Axelson of Germany.

I also attended the University Of Redlands where I studied piano pedagogy.

I studied voice with Suzann Luckather of the Alhambra Academy Of Music in Los Ang
eles and also with Maestra Marya Basaraba, director of the California Philharmonic 200 voice chorus.

I further studied with the international vocal coach and concert pianist, Armin Gazulamian.

My current vocal coach is the world famous tenor, Guiltiero Negrini of the Metropolitan Opera House New York.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am easy to get along with and am a very patient teacher. I expect all my students to do music theory and technique. If a student has a natural ability to play by ear I help them develop their talent. I also teach improvisation to those students who have the natural ability to play by ear.

I use several different curriculum but prefer Piano Adventures.
My lesson plan includes the following books- piano, theory, technique, performance and some selected sheet music. After a three to six month period, most students are confident enough to play in a performance and are able to read notes and have an understanding of the keyboard.

Voice lessons include breath control, vocalizing, stretching your voice range to its maximum and singing songs from Broadway to Disney to Classical.

All students are encouraged to participate in two recitals a year. One in the Spring and one in December.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Private studio with a grand piano, metronome, music stand and chairs and mirrors with a sitting area for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
Piano or Keyboard

*** Specialties ***
I teach most piano methods available such as Alfred, John Thompson, Piano Adventures, Bastien, etc.

I teach mostly classical and opera, also Broadway and popular in both piano and voice.

John M.

Redlands, CA

I have 14 years of experience in classical piano and I absolutely love to teach music! When teaching piano, I strive to help my students obtain a solid understanding of the piano, and help them build skills in reading, performance, proper practice techniques, and musical techniques. I also introduce them to a wide variety of repertoire and implement ear training and theory into my lessons so they can become a well-rounded musician. My students are also able to apply what they have learned to their specific musical interests. I teach with a mixture of the Kodaly and Dalcroze methods, and I believe in engaging my students visually, auditorialy, and kinesthetically, so they can have the best learning experience possible!

About John

*** Specialties ***
Hi, there! My name is John M and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have loved helping my students build a solid foundation and understanding of music, as well as developing their skills to become well rounded musicians. I also help my students learn to enjoy practicing and performing. I went to the University of Redlands and earned a degree in Music Composition in 2014. I'm a fun and friendly person and my teaching style is constructed in a way that will appeal to visual, aural, and kinesthetic learners. I am very interested in Kod
aly's method of inner hearing and music literacy. I also use warm ups that will help my students develop proper playing techniques, and I teach my students how to play with expression, and emotion. I strive to teach at the best of my ability, work hard, and share my love for music with others. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Charmaine G.

Rialto, CA

I start you off with David Carr Glover's "Piano Primer," and then progress into book 1 of the series or John Thompson's First Grade course, depending on student preference. At the same time you will near music theory and piano technique. I am flexible and will help students learn pieces/songs outside of the book, such as pop, Broadway, and religious music.

About Charmaine

I am a recent graduate of California State University San Bernardino who majored in music with an emphasis in music history and liberal studies with an emphasis in arts and humanities. I aspire to become a music librarian and desire to continue sharing my love of music with the community through teaching and performance. I have performed in numerous recitals at my university and also play piano at my church once a week. I especially enjoy teaching kids, but I've taught piano to people of all ages, from young to old. I am a warm, caring, encouraging, approachable person who allows my students t
o feel comfortable learning from me. The relationship between student and teacher is important, because it makes the learning process even more meaningful and worthwhile. I look forward to helping you accomplish your musical goals!

PLEASE NOTE: I am unable to teach lessons for those who live in mountain areas. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
