Ian is an awesome teacher! He is so understanding and sensitive to what you need as a student, aiming to meet you where you're at. Also, his knowledge of theory is exceptional, particularly in the area of jazz. I've found him to be well-grounded in his musicianship and feel confident in seeking him for instruction and guidance.

Ian was my combo instructor for 3 semesters at SDSU. If there is one thing I can say about him is that he knows his stuff. I was blown away by the experience and knowledge that he possesses, especially given his age. He knows more about music and how to teach than most instructors I've had. I would recommend him as a teacher in any musical circumstance.

Ian is a very solid teacher. He's very well rounded and can teach virtually any instrument. As a jazz guitarist, I found his insight very helpful with developing my musical vocabulary. He's very well studied with his masters degree, and very good with explaining concepts!
Francisco P. North Hollywood, CA

About Francisco

I was born in Argentina. I began playing bass when I was ten years old, while my younger brother began playing drums. I started taking bass classes, and also formed several bands as a bass player, although the drums had always been sounding in the back of my head. After listening to Tool’s Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, at the age of 17, I realized the drums were my true love, and began studying the instrument. I continued playing bass in several bands, until I joined the band The Evenfall as a drummer, in 2009. At this time, my family was considering moving to the U.S, and that's when I got the chance to apply to the Berklee College of Music. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012 with a degree in Drumset Performance. There I studied with the most respected drummers and ...

Francisco is such a great teacher. He tailors his lessons to your needs and challenges you just enough. I took lessons with him for about 8 months, which ended when he moved to the west coast. Otherwise I would still be with him. But he taught me so much and still checks in to make sure I'm sticking with it months after our sessions have ended. He genuinely cares about his students and their love of music and he enjoys teaching and motivating others to play. I highly recommend Francisco as a teacher as he will get you where you want to be.

I took up drums 2 years ago in my early 40's. Francisco was my first drum teacher, and he patiently introduced me to the instrument, exposed me to many different musical concepts and traditions, and really increased my interest in music and drumming. He is an amazing player, and I learned much from watching him play in lessons and also live. Unfortunately he moved from Boston to CA, which was my loss.I reccommend him without reservation.

I took many lessons with Francisco after a period of relative inactivity from playing drums on a consistent basis. I had been playing for years, but had unfortunately become rusty and out of practice at the time. Francisco helped me build my chops back up, and introduced me to new unique concepts in phrasing, approaching grooves, technique, and much more. Francisco's down-to-earth and very friendly personality, combined with his obvious passion for drums and percussion, made every lesson an event I looked forward to. He gave me a lot to think about each lesson, providing me with great musical concepts that can be studied for life. Francisco isn't a teacher who only thrives teaching beginners. As a drummer for several years with lots of performing experience, he still managed to significantly help improve my playing and reignite my spark in drumming. Thanks, dude
Glenn P. Cardiff by the Sea, CA

About Glenn

I started playing guitar and bass in my early teen years because I just couldn't wait to see a live concert. I thought if I could play the songs myself, it would be just as good. Well, it turns out that playing music you love yourself is even better than seeing a concert. You can make your own concert everyday! Since then I've been fortunate enough to work with a great deal of professional performers and to play many hundreds of successful live shows. Several years ago, I decided to focus on teaching. This was a great decision, because I truly love this work. I make a real difference in peoples lives, and help them achieve their goals, and sometimes even their dreams! *** Lesson Details *** Students can expect fun lessons based on songs they love. About Cristopher

I began taking piano lessons when I was six years old, but switched to guitar lessons at age ten. Ever since then, my passion has been playing guitar and songwriting. I am a music composition honors major at UCSD. Whether you want to learn to be a guitar virtuoso or you just want to be able to play some songs for your friends and family, I want to provide you with the best information and tools to help you accomplish your goals. I believe in trying to get the most out of the minimum - I want you to get the most benefit out of the time you spend, regardless if you are practicing for thirty minutes or for eight hours. I have had the pleasure of playing, and practicing, with Mr. Cris over the last few years. We actually took guitar class together in high school, and even then, I could tell that he was exceptionally talented. Given his family background in music, and his desire to create wonderful compositions, it was no surprise that he chose to pursue music in his life. Recently I have needed assistance with my songwriting and I have had no hesitation in bringing my work to Cris in order to gain insight into what I may need o do in order to successfully finish my composition(s). He is well educated in music, has learned from many accomplished professionals, and is extremely hard working in his craft. And finally, Cris is very patient, insightful, and motivated, when working, and/or teaching, individuals. I would highly recommend him to anyone of all ages.

One of the problems with musicians these days is a lack of formal training. Cris has spent the last 20+ years perfecting his abilities to teach music. In my opinion, Part of what makes Cris stand out from other instructors is his knowledge and open minded view of different styles of music. A teacher with a diverse musical background is ideal for a student who wants to create a good basis or reach the next level in their abilities. Cris is able to help you learn guitar the right way and set a path that will advance your abilities quicker than most other teachers.

About John

Born in Omaha, NE, I have played bass for 25 years - and began teaching bass 15 years ago. I play and teach many contemporary musical styles, and have lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Denver, Colorado, Austin, Texas, and currently reside in San Diego, California. I began studying Bass in 1987 under guidance of David Valentine and Jim Vaughn (both Principal Bassists with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra), and quickly began performing with the Colorado Springs Community Jazz Big Band, and other local artists and jazz swing small groups. In the early 1990's and after moving to Denver, Colorado, I joined the Neil Haverstick Band which often featured popular area vocalists such as Charla Bevan and others. While with the group, I played the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, and opened for ...

Excellent teacher. I had a teenager who was loosing interest in playing the violin. Since having George as an instructor she has gained interest and practices her violin on her own. She has also drastically shown improvement by playing in all the positions and playing very difficult music to prepare her to play in an orchestra. George is very patient. He makes the individual fall in love him not only the instrument but with music in general. I feel very lucky to have found him. He is a wonderful musician.
