Theodore J.

Norman, OK

About Theodore

My name is Theodore and I am a classical guitarist. I began studying music as a pop/rock guitarist in my teen years and eventually pursued the music field in college. Transferring from Sinclair Community College to Wright State University as an undergraduate I majored in music history and literature.

*** Lesson Details ***
The frontier of learning never ends. I want my students to enjoy the process of setting and achieving (musical) goals and if that process proliferates into other aspects of the student's life they will be the wiser. Most of the world's best musicians will agree that the
ir individual skill was not acquired easily but rather with discipline and patience. Such perseverance makes that skill more substantial. I want my students to take their time and enjoy the journey that is learning (specifically guitar), to take pride in themselves, and to know that they have a teacher who is present to guide and support them; a teacher who is on the same path to knowledge, only slightly ahead.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a footstool and a music stand. I expect the student to provide two sturdy chairs: one for me and one for the student in a quiet room for study. I welcome any parents who wish to sit in and observe lessons as it may help in the supervision of the student's practice throughout the week.

Couldn't be happier!!!

In one word, Ted is "amazing"!

Now for the details: I am a 44 year old man and am learning guitar to accompany myself and to honor my father who was a great guitar player. From day one Ted has worked on technique (which is extremely important to me). His professionalism exceeds expectations and he tries to find out what is important to the student so he can shape the lessons around those goals. He teaches with constant positive reinforcement and this helps my learning process. No matter how bad I think I am doing, he finds the good in it and then uses that information to work your lesson. He really has made my dreams of becoming a guitar player start to come true and I intend to continue working with him for as long as I can!! As Ted always says, "You are always learning how to play the guitar, no matter how long or how experienced you are!!" I cannot recommend him enough.

Theodore teaches my 11 year old son guitar. Since day 1 he seemed to instinctively know how to bring out the best in him. He shows incredible patience while also continuing to find ways to challenge him. This keeps him interested. My son looks forward to practicing all that Theodore writes down from his lessons, and he lights up when he hears, from Theodore, that he has done well. My son has learned more in 4 weeks with Theodore than he did in 2 months with his previous teachers.

Renee M.

Blanchard, OK

About Renee

Hello, there! My name is Renee and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2014 and can teach beginning method, classical, and pop. I went to the University of Oklahoma and earned a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting in 1995. I attended the University on a non-major's scholarship playing the clarinet and participated in the University of Oklahoma Marching Band.

I took piano lessons growing up for 9 years learning classical music and performed before the National Guild yearly for those 9 years. Currently, I play piano and keyboards for
my church. I'm a patient and fun person and I believe everyone learns at a different pace. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

***Lesson Details***I teach out of the Bastien Piano course, and others but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books if taught online and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for reaching goals and for performing well in our lessons. I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

*** Studio Equipment***
Upright piano and metronome

***Travel Equipment***
I am willing to purchase books for students to be reimbursed. I expect students to provide a piano or keyboard, and a notebook for recording notes and assignments.
