About Chuck

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are custom-oriented to your goals. You will learn confidence in your abilities to perform well and have fun. I will train your mental toolkit, while steering you toward the digital and real-world tools you need to achieve musical success.

Working towards clearly defined goals in a low-pressure, focused environment, my students reach their maximum potential quickly and with confidence. With my expertise and your dedication, we'll have fun and you'll come away from each lesson with something new to work on.

You already enjoy listening to music, now it's t
ime to enjoy making it!

***About Me***
I've appeared on recordings with dozens of rock, pop, jazz, and classical groups, and perform on a variety of instruments and styles throughout the Boston area.

I listen to and play all kinds of music from Beethoven to Stravinsky, Arcade Fire to Beyonce, James Brown to Snoop Dogg/Lion. I have had the pleasure to share the stage with rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Jimmie Lunceford, Conrad Herwig, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Jeff Coffin (Flecktones).

I've played acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, violin, cello, and string bass drums. Some of my favorite recent projects have been:
-Quilty (Pavement-style hard rock band)
-The Nevermind Orchestra (brass band that covers Nirvana tunes)
-Chill Sons (my own band for which I write songs, play guitar, and sing)
-Manhattan Symphonie (an entertaining symphony orchestra featuring soloists on piano, violin, saw, urdu, and tap shoes)

It is a treat to share music with others, and my lessons are fun, challenging, and engaging.

Thanks for stopping by to look at my profile! Let's hang out and do music things.

Chuck was on time, professional and my son really enjoyed his first lesson. Chuck was able to quickly figure out where my son was in the learning process so that they could get started right away. Excellent teacher!

Chuck was terrific with both my five year old son learning to play for the first time and my more experienced husband learning to refine his skills and progress further with theory. He is excellent with children and my son keeps asking if he can come everyday.

I lucked out when Chuck became my teacher to give me guitar lessons. After all these years, I am finally beginning to believe that I can actually play a guitar, thanks to Chuck. He gives me his positive feedback at every lession which encourages me to practice and believe in myself.. He is so smart, kind, patient, talented, and funny too. If anyone comes to you seeking a very talented teacher to learn an instrument, you would be wise to assign Chuck to be their teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
My first emphasis is on tone, sound projection, and pitch control. If you don't have a good sound and good presence, everything else is insignificant. After that is established, technique exercises are implemented in any and all styles that the student wishes to pursue. I prefer classical and jazz exercises for the saxophone. I expect my students to practice every day and "re-teach" themselves the knowledge and advice they receive from me. The REAL learning happens when you are all by yourself, realizing your mistakes and fixing them from within. I will show you how to go about doing this, but the student must be able to execute their goals on their own during the practice week. I am strict because I expect a lot out of my students. I also like to have fun! Don't forget that it is YOUR lesson. Whatever songs you want to learn, or if you want to sound like players you admire, let's go for it! Anything is possible!

Saxophone
talented musician and inspiring teacher

Trevor has been my sax teacher for more than two years. He is both fun and inspiring. I am definitely a better musician because of my lessons with him.

Trevor makes me work hard but understands when I need the lesson to slow down. My favorite part of each lesson is when we get to play the music together.

In lessons, I find it important to work on tone production, technique, etudes for concentration, and a piece that the student and I pick out together. I also like to incorporate a little theory in the mix so student understands what they are reading. Most of all, I want the student to feel relaxed and have fun while learning. A relaxed musician who enjoys what they are doing always plays beautifully.

Serge S.

Sterling, CT

My teaching concept is very traditional, based on classical music education. Technical aspects include: posture, intonation, hand position, breath control, articulation and interpretation, as also i am a big fan of Jamey Aebersold jazz program and his "Play-A-Long" series of instructional book and CD collections, using the chord-scale system for learning of jazz improvisation and jazz standarts. We'll start with the basics, and moving on to very advanced techniques. We'll explore ALL aspects of saxophone playing and i"ll explain precise saxophone exercises that will help you push your playing to the next level in the shortest time.

About Serge

Hi, there!

My name is Serge. I am all-round musician, having experience teaching privately as well as at schools. I am multilingual (English, German, Russian) and accepting students of all ages and ability levels. My major is saxophone, but i also offer classical flute and piano/keyboard lessons. I teach saxophone and flute players at all levels. I am currently available to teach at your home or at my studio, as also i offer skype-online instructions.

I received my bachelor in music back to 1985 and worked with many bands and ensembles around the globe.

"The old myth that says, "You
either have it or you don't," is strictly a myth founded on ignorance and the inability (or unwillingness) of those who can play to share what they do verbally with those who think they can't learn."

I look forward to helping you reach your goals!
