I have had the great fortune to play original music in a group with Zephyr for the last year. His compositions are incredibly fun to play, and I feel that he worked on them with a very clear concept in mind. I've learned so much about my own musical aesthetic from working with him. I can imagine that he encourages students to find their unique approach to music as well.

Few lessons with Zeph at our place when we lived together and subsequently at my house. Zeph was patient and showed me lots about chord voicing. He both showed me progressions that highlighted the kinds of modification possible and helped me to include more variety in my own compositions. We'd play through a bit of my stuff first usually, then move in to more of the lesson. After working on that, we'd go back into something of mine with more focus and precision. Zeph was good at matching my skill level, and keeping the content and the focus consistent with what I could understand at the time. His knowledge of music theory was, at least for me, expansive enough that his answers and references ended up being very helpful. He introduced tone substitution, for instance, in a super easy to understand way.
All in all, great experiences over the last 5+ years and I'll definitely be working with him while I'm in California.
