    About Zack R.

Hello! My name is Zack R, and I would love to be your new drums or percussion teacher! I started playing drums at 8 years old, and I've been going non-stop ever since. I went to Christopher Newport University for percussion performance and music education, and after graduating in 2012, have been working as a musician and music educator in Virginia for several years. If any of you have been to Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion since 2010, you may have seen me in a show or two. I also play regular gigs around the Richmond and Hampton Roads areas. My teaching experience includes previous private lessons (I'm just now giving this website a try!), and teaching sixth grade percussion at Guildersleeve Middle School in Newport News. I also was one of the instructors for the Bruton High School Drumline in 2011. I am a member of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), as well as KKΨ (Kappa Kappa Psi) National Honorary Band Fraternity. *** Studio Equipment *** I have a yamaha electronic drum set with headphones and drumsticks for two! Just come ready to learn and I'll provide the rest! *** Travel Equipment *** A yamaha stage custom acoustic drum set. It's not a problem for me to bring this kit to a students location, as long as there's space for me to set it up! If a student is interested in marching percussion, I also have a Pearl marching snare I could bring along. I also have some bluetooth speakers for listening examples. *** Specialties *** Drum Set- Any Style (Jazz, Rock, Funk, Latin, etc.) Marching & Rudimental Percussion Percussion Ensemble & Wind Ensemble Playing

    Experience

    Drummer

    Mar, 2013 - Present

The Jonny Peyton Renaissance Big Band

This jazz oriented group meets every Monday and reads though a few tunes a week. Being the drummer for a jazz band is a unique and challenging role, one that I am happy and honored to fill.

    Performer

    Feb, 2014 - Nov, 2014

    Kings Dominion

If any of you saw the Kings Dominon "Clown Band" this past summer, that was me playing snare drum! We were an 11-piece brass band that strolled around the park playing and acting silly.

    Drumline Instructor

    Aug, 2011 - Oct, 2011

    Bruton High School

As the drumline instructor, I taught both the marching "battery" percussion and the front ensemble proper playing technique and musical ensemble playing. I also instructed the battery in proper marching and maneuvering.

    Performer

    Mar, 2010 - Present

    Busch Gardens Williamsburg

I've been having a blast working as a performer at Busch Gardens. I have performed drums and percussion in shows such as: "Mix it Up!" "Dig it Up!" "This is Oktoberfest!" "Deck the Halls" and "Gloria!"

    Percussion Director

    Mar, 2010 - Jun, 2012

    Giuldersleeve Middle School

While at Giuldersleeve, I instructed sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in basic to intermediate percussion techniques and ensemble playing. I also taught drum set in the Guildersleeve jazz band.
