    About Zach N.

You want to get better at playing the French horn. Or, you want to get started with this beautiful instrument. Either way, I'm here to help! I'm a freelance hornist in New York City with variety of professional experience playing with orchestras, brass quintets, woodwind quintets, and as a guest soloist. I possess and Bachelor's degree in Music Education from James Madison University and a Master of Music degree in French Horn Performance from Western Michigan University. As a teacher, I have had students enter collegiate programs, win auditions with state festivals, and have a great time doing it! By studying with me, there are a few things that you can expect: WE'RE GOING TO GET STRAIGHT TO THE ISSUES. Every musician is different, having their own strengths and weaknesses. I'll help you identify aspects of your technique that may be getting in your way and and we will formulate exercises to create new, healthy habits. WE'RE GOING TO CELEBRATE YOUR STRENGTHS. As musicians we all spend a lot of time facing our weaknesses. We will be doing challenging work, but I'll remind you of what makes you excellent to fuel your progress and make sure you enjoy the process of self-improvement. WE'RE GOING TO DEVELOP MUSICIANSHIP AS WELL AS TECHNIQUE. Every lesson will include technical study, music theory study, and repertoire study. The technique serves the mind, and through exciting repertoire you will find something to say through your music and while you learn how to say it through practice. YOU'RE GOING TO BECOME YOUR OWN BEST TEACHER. I'm only with you for one lesson at a time, so it is my top priority to help you self-identify problems and give you the tools to create healthy habits in your own practice. Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Teach them HOW to fish, and they'll eat for the rest of their life.
