Sep, 2016 - PresentPlay Study Win
I work for an after school program called Play Stud Win through which I teach a critical thinking and philosophical reasoning class to middle school students aged 10 - 13 at a middle school in Brooklyn. In the course I offer, students are introduced to topics such as free-will and determinism; the nature of the mind; social and personal identity; the nature of truth; robots; zombies; the nature of time; questions of authority and authenticity; the history of morality; politics; science; big-bang cosmology and the first event; the basis of the “laws” of logic, ethics, and meta-ethics. The emphasis here is not only on understanding the dictated parameters and the main arguments of existing and perennial philosophical problems, but is too teach students critical thinking and writing skills, as well as how they can come to develop and present oral arguments and thoughts of their own.
