I first became interested in music at a young age and have never lost sight of my passion for music. From choir in middle school to band in high school, I have had some of my favorite memories in music. I continued my education by attending Reinhardt University as an education major, with an emphasis on tuba and trombone. This gave me more experiences and knowledge about music than I could have ever dreamt and I look forward to every time I get to share that knowledge. During my time at Reinhardt I have performed with the Reinhardt University Symphonic Winds, Reinhardt Orchestra, Reinhardt brass quintets and low brass choir, and the Reinhardt Jazz Ensemble. During my junior year at Reinhardt I competed and won the concerto competition, which allowed me to perform as soloist with the orchestra on the spring concert. My other performing experiences have come from recitals at Reinhardt and various gigs around the Canton, Marietta, Cobb, Atlanta, and Jasper areas.
I have also had the opportunity to work several marching bands during the marching camps and as a brass tech during their fall seasons. I have also worked with large groups, small groups, and individuals ranging from beginners to advanced players.
Currently I am completing my student teaching, which further allows me to refine my skills and delivery methods for teaching, as well as develop new ways of teaching. I am truly enjoying where music is taking me and wouldn't want to be doing anything else. The best thing about the profession I have chosen in my opinion, is that I can pass on a skill to other people that they can have and use for the rest of their life.
*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep my lessons comfortable and relaxed in order to promote learning. I do expect a lot of concentration and effort put into the techniques of playing your instrument, but I do allow for fun learning as well as musical games to learn the basics. I am very serious about the importance of learning the fundamentals of your instrument as knowing them can allow you to play so much better. I will generally play along with more advanced students in the first lesson or two to allow them to feel more comfortable playing by themselves.
I do expect students to bring their own instruments(except tuba) and any accessories needed to play. If you have a preferred method book, then that should be brought as well. I will provide addition music and practice material for all instruments and age levels.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio location at University and teaches in living room at home.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide some music and some instruments for in lesson use. I expect students to bring their own instrument unless they currently don't own an instrument or it is large, such as a tuba. I expect brass players to have their own mouthpieces.
*** Specialties ***
I am mostly a classical musician with other experience playing jazz, brass quintet, wind ensemble, and jazz combos. I prefer to demonstrate what I would like for my student to do so they have a proper idea of what they should sound like.
