Learn how to play the cello, understand the music, and much more with an experienced professional

Good habits and an excellent attitude make great cellists. It doesn't hurt to love music too. I love music and I love to share my passion with my students. Having a teacher who is an experienced performer is an important quality in a teacher. I am a professional classical musician currently working as a freelance cellist in the Chicago area. I play with Chicago Philharmonic, the Northbrook Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony, among others. Before coming to Chicago I played for 13 seasons with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. I have taught privately for over 20 years including 2 years in Paris. My teaching is a reflection of my teacher, Phillippe Muller. I studied with Msr. Muller while studying at the Paris Conservatory. Msr. Muller is currently a Professor of Cello at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

About Wei D.

Even though I have been teaching and performing on the cello for most of my life, it's not all there is to who I am. I am a meditator ( I just recently start to offer one-on-one guided mindfulness meditation sessions on the Takelessons platform ( I got my culinary art certificate 5 years ago), a mom, a wife. I have a cute little Tibetan Terrier that loves visitors. My husband and I love hiking in beautiful places. Studying with me will be fun but it will also be challenging. I believe that being able to make music with your own two hands is worth the effort. And of course, I believe that cultivating our mind is one of the most rewarding practice we could do in life.

Wei is always patient and detail-oriented, from musical to technical aspects of the music, nothing is too tedious for her! My son loves his time with Ms. Wei, there is a joy that comes through her enthusiasm to create something beautiful during classes, with her student. We feel very lucky to have found her!

Wei is absolutely amazing! We feel so lucky to have found her, Wei is so patient and understanding, her warmth and passion came through each lesson, she worked on all the details with my son for each excerpts and pieces, no matter how tedious, making it technically more sound and the phrasings more musical, my son absolutely loves his lessons, thank you Wei, we are truly grateful for your dedication and loving care!

Wei was so patient and knowledgeable, her warmth and enthusiastic teaching style totally put my son to ease. Her attention to details in both musicality and technique totally impressed us, one feels like playing the cello should be very organic, instead of practicing and playing robotically. We feel so lucky to have found her and we do so look forward to my son's weekly lessons!
