I am a graduate from the University of Rochester with a B.S in Neuroscience and the former president of a student run global health non-profit. My passion for teaching was founded by my own experience as a student. Throughout my academic career, the challenges I encountered refined my own approach to understanding subjects, and the ensuing success after overcoming such obstacles brought me further love for learning and those subjects. I want to transmit that feeling of accomplishment to students as they master their own subjects, and hopefully foster a passion for further learning and success in any of their other endeavors. As a top student in both high school, and scholarship recipient in college, I know the effort and dedication required to be successful, and the impact a good teacher and support system can have on a student. Having served as a tutor for speech and writing in college, I enjoy and thrive in tutoring English, Literature, Writing, Communication and Debate. I have honed my writing abilities and understanding to help many students on writing college application essays, even tailored for particular schools. As a neuroscience student, having taken numerous science courses in a university setting and performed well in them, I understand many of the common difficulties students face when grappling with the concepts and problems presented to them. I have used my own experience as a teaching instructor for the Department of Biology to hone my teaching abilities and help students master formerly challenging material. Ultimately, the skills I acquired throughout this process of teaching and learning have improved my own understanding and grasp on the sciences, and I pass on these acquired traits to my students as I instruct them in the various sciences. For many students, standardized tests are the biggest challenges to obtaining college admission, earning scholarships, or placing into selective programs. As someone who self-taught and experimented his way through taking these exams and scoring well, I take students through the whole approach to exams like the SAT by breaking down each section to manageable parts and finding the most efficient and easy ways to answer questions. Through helping students individually leverage their strengths and destroy weaknesses in facing these exams, I am confident that they will have conquered yet another obstacle on the path to their goals.
