I have always been passionate and excited about teaching! I have extensive teaching experience and knowledge combined with individual approach to every one of my students. You will not only get a complete understanding of piano technique, proper usage of hand and arm weight, but also a deeper understanding of musical language overall. My lessons are engaging, informative, and thorough. You will fall in love with classical music right away!

Before starting we set up an interview during which we talk with the student in order to identify the goals they want to achieve and how I can help. After identifying a level the student is at, I start by carefully choosing the right repertoire and building an individual plan for the entire course of study. My method is developed to master skills in music and piano playing which include technique, theory, sight-reading, and music history. I am proud of my students who show incredible success on the international and local levels by winning competitions, participating at festivals, and mastering all kinds of music tests.

About Vitaly S.

Described by internationally renowned pianist Robert Hamilton as “an outstanding pianist whose comprehensive performances blend intelligent stylistic understanding with emotional depth and strong technical prowess”, Russian-born Vitaly is an acclaimed and versatile musician, teaching artist, and recording engineer based in Phoenix, AZ. He has performed worldwide in such venues as Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall in New York City, Virginia G. Piper Theater in Scottsdale, the Athens Conservatoire in Greece, Dr. Hoch's Konservatorium in Germany, and Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Grand Hall in Russia, among many others. Mr. S is a prize winner in numerous international piano competitions, including the All-Russia Open Contest of Pianists, the 6th International Competition “Music Without Limits” in Lithuania, and the 2nd International Rachmaninov-Gesellschaft e.V. Competition in Germany. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Recognition Award for talented youth given by the Russian Ministry of Science and Education. Mr. S has performed and collaborated with such conductors as Alexander Skulsky, Vladimir Plaksin, Igor Zhukov, James Johnston, and David Wilson. Vitaly is a D.M.A. candidate at Arizona State University. His principal teachers include Vladimir Feltsman, Paul Ostrovsky, Robert Hamilton, Natalia Fish, and Robert Satterlee.

Mr. S is a co-founder and owner of Ostinato Conservatory of Music - a premier destination for music and piano education in Phoenix West Valley and on the web. He served as Faculty Associate at Arizona State University School of Music, taught at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, and is a piano instructor for the ASU Community School of Music. He frequently participates and gives masterclasses at Music Teachers National Association conferences, serves as a jury member for many piano competitions, including Dean & Carolyn Elder Piano Competition and PMTA Fall Festival & Competition, and is an active adjudicator for the Arizona Study Program. His students have successfully passed ABRSM, ASP, and Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, and won local and international piano competitions. Robert Hamilton noted: “Vitaly has proven to be an uncommonly successful teacher whom I regularly recommend to the very finest young talents and parents who seek my advice. He knows what is required to bring gifted pianists to the point of producing a first-rate piano sound, through the proper use of finger, hand and arm weight. Much of this comes from his thorough understanding and mastery of what is perhaps the best technical approach in the piano world, commonly known as the Russian school of piano playing.”

Vitaly is the best pianist, musician and teacher I have ever known. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is very likable. As a teacher he is very encouraging and respectful. He understands, and can explain, music at a deep level. There were pieces I have heard practically all my life, but Vitaly would surprise me by illustrating melodies in the inner voices that I had never realized were part of the music, enabling me to see beauty in the pieces I had not known was there, and showing me how to bring out the hidden melodies through developing a sensitive “touch” when playing the piano. He played a piece I was working on, and he spontaneously expanded chords in a rather complex line, making the music surprisingly brilliant. He explained things clearly and patiently, and he had the ability of making me feel important as a student. He can guide a student from the very beginning to the most advanced.

Vitaly is a caring, utmost skilled piano virtuoso and quite possibly an even more gifted teacher who aspires his students to set realistic yet lofty learning & performance goals through a consistent, instrisic motivational teaching style. We are extremely fortunate to have Vitaly instruct our son Anderson! The future for my son is made so much brighter with such a brilliant piano, and music theory education ! Many thanks Vitaly!
