Violin

Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate
Hello! I am a trained Special Education teacher who has been playing the violin for 24 years. I have experience playing in community and competitive orchestras, and have received professional training. Currently I am playing in the Salem Community Orchestra. I use a blended style of teaching, and tailor instruction based on where the student is at.

Not only do I understand how to teach children, I have experience teaching adults the basics of music theory.

I am willing to drive to your home after 6PM, or weekend mornings, when my husband is home from work.

I can't wait to get to know you!!

Teaching since:
2008

My name is Victoria Bartholomew and I am excited to start working with new students! I've been teaching private lessons since 2008 and have loved watching my students grow at their individual pace.

I went to the University of Utah and earned a degree in Special Education in 2013. I am easy going and dedicated to my student's success. My teaching style is casual, fun, and moves at the pace of the student. I find that it's very important to match the student's time and comfort level before assigning skills to work on. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

For musical lessons, I typically lean towards more traditional teaching methods but am quick to blend different methods based on student needs. Instead of forcing theory, I enjoy teaching theory in a practical way. Incorporating musical theory that is meaningful for a specific piece of music tends to lead to better memorization and increased understanding.

I am currently participating in the Salem Philharmonic Orchestra and taking my own advanced violin lessons to continually improve my teaching ability. However I previously have experience playing for private weddings, in small groups, fiddle music, and traditional orchestras. I also play the piano and trombone, but don't offer lessons on those instruments at this time.

Victoria is great! This was my first lesson and as an older student I was a little nervous to start something new. She was patient and very knowledgeable! I am looking forward to my next lesson!

This was my first lesson with Victoria. She took the time to get to know me personally and learn about my experience with the violin. She adapted the lesson to my level and interests. I found her instruction to be clear and easy to follow. It was a relaxed atmosphere and I learned a lot in one session. I am eager to practice what I have learned and I am looking forward to working with her again.

We had our first lesson this week with Victoria and it was great! My daughter (10) has been taking violin for 2 1/2 years and this is the first time we have had to change teachers. Victoria was engaging and careful to ask a lot of questions and pay close attention to my daughter's strengths and areas of needed improvement. She said they will work towards preparing her to play with an orchestra, which is appropriate as we move towards middle school!
