Teaching since:

My name is Victoria Bartholomew. I have been playing the violin for 22 years and have loved teaching students along the way. I started teaching in high school, and have had several students since. Currently I am teaching five students; one as young as 4 years old. I am a licensed Special Education Teacher and have worked with students with various disabilities for the past 7 years. I am trained in applied behavior analysis and have used it in private and group settings.

Teaching music is a fantastic merge of my two passions in life. I perform regularly in my church congregation, and can also play the piano and trombone. Currently, I am learning how to play the organ. I have participated in several large orchestras and have taken professional violin lessons for 16 of my 22 years of playing.

I have a very flexible and casual style of teaching. Once I have gotten to know the student and their (if applicable) parents, then I tailor the lessons to fit their needs. I teach using a mix of traditional and more modern Suzuki philosophies. Additionally, I am willing to teach in my home, at your home, or online. I am also willing to use toys and games for very young students who are wiggly.

Perfect practice makes perfect playing. I believe in starting with form and care of the instrument, and then moving into theory right away. Unless there is a recital or performance coming up, I prefer to spend up to 20-40% of a lesson on music technique and theory. This will ultimately lead to a more well rounded musician and allow for greater creativity as a mature musician.

We had our first lesson this week with Victoria and it was great! My daughter (10) has been taking violin for 2 1/2 years and this is the first time we have had to change teachers. Victoria was engaging and careful to ask a lot of questions and pay close attention to my daughter's strengths and areas of needed improvement. She said they will work towards preparing her to play with an orchestra, which is appropriate as we move towards middle school!
