I am a professional singer and a multi-instrumentalist, and I record and produce my own songs. My teaching methods are superb and so on and so forth. This is the part where I'm supposed to write down how I have played music, gigged, taught it, toured, taken vocal lessons, achieved success and academic acknowledgment, how I have 10 active bands and all the other common denominator things to all the online tutors. The truth is, music is not about being the cool, flashy virtuoso, as what music has to offer is much more real and exciting than that. I want to share that with my students. Music is one of the great mystical, esoteric phenomena of our experience, do not water her down to trying to impress somebody for a clap and a thumbs up. Music is a magic, intimate thing - not the Olympic competition in finger agility.When learning music, one should not focus and fret (no pun intended) upon the mistakes one makes, but rather focus on the fleeting beauty of the melody you play, on the happy accidents that can only happen to the ones with the flawed technique, try to enjoy in making the sounds and the tactile feeling in your fingers, the smell of strings, the joy of progress, the excitement of being in the moment. Mistakes and "bad" technique are a petty thing, in time,they will tuck the tail between their legs and run away in the presence of honest joy of playing. It is a marvelous thing, only in arts can you experience this feeling of timelessness and complete abandon. Energy and passion will come naturally in playing and will be easily transmitted to the audience once you learn to stop thinking of you as the one who is playing, rather than the song being played.
