What's inside the singing lesson?
Lessons revolve around three basic aspects which are training, singing, and acting.
In training, definitely be ready for some scale exercises. If you want to work on making your vibrato faster, breathe better, sing more loud or soft, sing short or longer phrases, controlling your mix, executing your melismas, r&b licks, blue notes, bending notes, singing super high notes and transitioning down to lower notes: balancing head and chest voice, and expanding your range, then vocal training is what you'll need. Most of this activity involves matching sounds to custom scales played on a piano.
In singing, definitely have a song in mind you want to work on. Then we'll discuss which techniques and skills that are essential for that particular genre of music. Other than that, you'll learn singer's diction and will know how to control vowel sounds and consonants more efficiently. Most of this activity involves you singing either a line, a verse, chorus, bridge, or the entire song. It really depends on what level you feel comfortable at. Most of this activity revolves around breathing techniques, phrasing techniques, and you singing the melody correctly on pitch.
In acting, whether you're recording or performing, you'll still need to put an act together. Portrayal of emotions are quite the essential skills to make your sound believable. If singing with feeling is not working out for you, then you might want to consider working on some basic acting skills. Some of the skills covered are voice inflections, rhythm, gestures, body language, and facial expressions. Most of this activity involves you expressing yourself as an artist.
How to be prepared for the lesson?
If you do not have a piano or recording device on hand, I'll provide both devices for you. It's recommended to provide a piano. It doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be in tuned. If it's digital, you should be fine. It's also recommended to have a recording device. Many clients enjoy recording their lessons on their mp3 players or any other computer devices. Please have a clean and clear space with an electrical outlet for the piano and recording device. Other than that, please wear comfortable clothing as if you are about to play a sport or an activity you enjoy. If you want to dress like a super star that's fine too.
If you're taking lessons online, don't worry about anything because everything will be provided.
My daughter has been taking singing lessons from Varin for just over a month and I have noticed a big difference in her singing. She has been learning techniques to help increase her note range and work toward reaching her full potential with her voice. Varin is very patient with my daughter and she feels very comfortable with his teaching skills.+ Read More
Knows what he's talking about. More of a casual and laidback teacher. Relatable if you're a younger guy or girl.
Varin is an awesome instructor, who truly demonstrates love for what he does and goes above the norm to ensure you understand and get the most from your lessons. He teaches great technique and has a lot of patience.
I had a great time with Varin. He made sure I was comfortable as when singing you can be incredibly vulnerable especially when you don't sing in front of people often. I had no idea walking in what I wanted out of this other than improvement. He made a quick assessment of my voice and we started training right away. It allowed me to the get the most out of my hour. He was never shy to explain anything to me and I was happy to hear what he had to say. A+ teacher+ Read More
So far, definitely what I am looking for in a vocal instructor to help you explore your voice more, rather than just trying to "get by"' with whatever you've been doing in the past and thereby avoiding the opportunity to grow both physically and mentally.
For me in the vocal realm that takes a lot of courage, and I greatly appreciate greatly his calming presence and his positive attitude. Also, he's organized, responsive, and professional. I'm so happy about that. Receiving a recording of your lesson is an added plus! Thanks so much!
Just had my first lesson with Mr. Varin and it was great! I was really nervous but Varin was patient and understanding. He took the time to listen to my concerns and was very clear with his explanations. Highly recommended!!!
Varin is honestly such a great teacher. Since it was my first time ever getting formal vocal instruction, I was really nervous; however, he slowly eased away my anxiety with his patience and sense of sympathy. Professional yet relaxed, encouraging and reliable! Would recommend.+ Read More
I'm a trans guy. As I transitioned from soprano to tenor, Varin helped me figure out how to use my new voice, on a conceptual and practical level. Overall, it was a great experience.
Super friendly and knowledgeable about singing. Would recommend.
Hi I am a professional dancer from Los Angeles. I worked with Varin in North Hollywood. Super nice instructor. He taught me everything I need to know for auditions.
Varin is nice. My mom hired him so I could sing solos at my church. I go to Jurupa Hills High and I run track. On my spare time, I sing and play piano. Singing has always been a passion of mine. Learning with Varin is always fun! He's not mean or strict with my voice. He is good. You should try him.+ Read More

I'm an actress and I was really weak in the singing department until a close friend of mine referred his singing coach.
I am pursuing my dream in New York right now. I don't think I would be able to compete out here without Varin. XOXOXOXOXOO

Hello world, I live in Montclair and go to high school. I always wondered how to sing like the people on TV. I didn't know anybody to trust, plus I was scared. One day I finally got to courage to get help. I begged my parents for lessons because everybody in my family, like my cousins made fun of me. Now they laugh no more. Hehe! Love my voice coach!+ Read More
I been singing for over 12 years. I was so blessed to have found Varin who was referred by my bass player Alex. Throughout my years of singing, I never found anyone that could maintain my voice when I was on tour. I love working with Varin so much, he is now teaching my son and my little sister. I would definitely recommend him to anyone seriously looking to level up their singing skills....= )+ Read More
This is how you do singing right. I think Varin is the best coach ever because:
I finally captured my voice.
He takes everything that is so convoluted about singing and turns it into something I understand easily.
I look forward to what he'll want me to practice on in my next lesson.
It was hard to know which person to pick to be my singing instructor. I picked Varin because he seems to know more about commercial music. I didn't want to end up singing opera or musical theater like many other coaches. Varin provided everything that he promised in his profile. I got the singing exercises for my music which is r&b. I could hit those high-notes like nothing now. I was so impressed of how accurate Varin was with fixing my problems. He's like a doctor but for singing. I'm serious, I didn't know singing could be taught. I thought you had to be born with it or something. Well, I didn't have an ipod, so he brought his recorder and made a cd for me at my pad. I ripped the lesson onto my computer so I'll always have a copy of what I worked on in the lesson. I was so nervous at first because I didn't live in a nice home, but he's so down to earth, I felt comfortable with him right away. He's pretty laid back and I never felt pressured into doing things I felt uncomfortable about. Great instructor for the price!+ Read More
I've tried teaching myself with self help videos and online instructions but after a while I felt like I hit my limit of what I could learn on my own. I decided that I wanted professional help. I was a little skeptical at first because I've never had an instructor come over to teach me but then I gave it a shot and I was very pleased, Varin is very intuitive and helped me work on my strong suites while also helping me improve my weak ones. Personally I felt more comfortable in my own environment rather than taking a vocal class at a school or church. Varin helped me maintain my raspy sound that would always take a toll on my throat, but now after working with Varin for a few months I can sing indefinitely without my throat feeling hoarse.+ Read More
Varin helped me a lot with singing. He helped create a foundation where I can stand vocally, and gave me tools to use to create the sound I want. When I first started with him, I was pushing, and straining my voice to excess. He showed me how to take a step back from the pushing and let my voice do its thing. I've seen marked improvement since training with Varin. From vocal warmup exercises, to recording songs we worked on to pick the technicalities apart, his curriculum covers all the bases. I highly recommend Varin if you're looking for a friendly face who also knows his stuff!+ Read More
When i first started working with Varin I was a bit nervous, but he helped to make me feel more comfortable with projecting me sound. I worked with him for about a year while I was in a performing class and each performance i had my teacher noticed a significant amount of improvement in my sound, and deliverance. Even now I practice the same techniques he taught and i can notice more improvements in my sound.
He was always well prepared and very professional. I cant wait to work with him again soon(:
