“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato

Young or old, beginner or advanced, music education is for everyone. It develops an ability to effectively work in teams, builds drive and discipline, kindles imagination, and connects you to the human spirit. I approach music as an essential part of life and have high expectations of my students whether they aim to perform professionally or casually play during spare time. During lessons, we focus on tone, technique, strong practice habits, basic music theory, and musicality.

I grew up in Mesa, Arizona, and held principal positions in the Arizona Regional and All-State Band and Orchestra as well as in the California State University, Sacramento Philharmonic and Wind Ensemble. Frequently commended for my robust tone, exemplary technique, and professionalism, I'm known especially for my work in chamber ensembles. I've performed around the Southwest including at events sponsored by Netflix, the George W. Bush Presidential Center, and Sandra Day O’Connor Institute.
I studied with Beth McGraw, Joe Corral, and Laurel Zucker.

My goal is to give students the ability and resources to grow to become an overall musician. I work hard to find out how different students learn, and I adjust my teaching style to fit different learning needs. If one method doesn't work, I find what does. I aim to help students exercise their passion through music, so I try to find out what interests a student and work to incorporate that into music lessons. I am very encouraging and enthusiastic in my teaching.

Tyler helped me improve my tone over just a few lessons. He dramatically changed my idea of how to blow into the instrument. Love our lessons.
