    About Troup W.

By getting myself into Dartmouth, graduating cum laude with honors, and then volunteering as an applicant interviewer for Dartmouth, I learned how top schools select applicants. I believe everyone has a story to tell in their personal statement, and I work with students through the brainstorming-phase through polishing their essays. I also help with resume-building, college selection, and demystifying the application process! I also do English and humanities homework tutoring for any grade level. Experience

    College Prep Coach and Lecturer

    Jan, 2018 - Present

    IvyGuideTutoring.com

As a college prep expert, I’ve been featured in Variety Magazine and flown to China to give speeches for the country’s largest education company, New Oriental. I’ve spoken to over 500 students, college counselors, and parents about tailoring applications to elite American universities. Having interviewed applicants for Dartmouth College as an alumni volunteer, I know what top schools are looking for, and I have their playbook in my back pocket. That’s how I’ll ensure you or your child has an edge over the competition. My specialty is guiding students through the college application essay. I believe everybody has a story to tell, and together we can tell that story in a way that fits the specific criteria admissions officers want.

    English Tutor

I tutor Elementary, Middle School, High School, and College students on coursework in the humanities. As an English teacher, I volunteer inside Juvenile Hall, which has taught me how to engage even the most difficult students. Perhaps it's also worth mentioning that the position came with LA County's strictest safety and background checks. My other focus areas are creative writing and filmmaking--as a one-man production team, I directed a feature documentary in Nepal and Nicaragua which won "Best International Documentary" at the Laughlin Film Festival. And I won a spot in the CAPE New Writer's Fellowship. I'm located in Sherman Oaks, but travel within West LA and the SF Valley for private in-home tutoring. I also offer online tutoring. I look forward to working with you!
