I have an informal, laid back teaching style. My lessons tailored around your goals and are designed to keep you challenged and moving forward.
For younger students I focus on fun rhythm, pitch, and listening exercises. It is also important to establish good technique at this level as it will make learning easier as they advance. These lessons focus on the melody line of a song that is easily recognizable for even young children.
For students with prior experience I start with a basic review of technique, music theory, and try to identify any trouble areas that should be addressed before moving on to more advanced lessons. These lessons involve learning to arrange covers using both harmony and melody, of songs you want to learn, as well as constructing your own lead guitar lines.
More advanced lessons involve breaking down and learning a specific technique or style of music. Take slide guitar for example. I would discuss different slide types and techniques, open tuning you guitar, stylistic elements in your playing, chord progressions that work within your style, and scales that work over those progressions. These lessons involve learning to play covers as well as writing your own songs.
I play drums in our contemporary worship band one Sunday a month as well as special events.
I played banjo, guitar, and keyboards in the Sweet Freedom Band covering Southern Rock and Country tunes as well as playing originals.
