This will be through the use of proper technique and providing a clear explanation of music theory, scales, progressions, harmonizing, improvising, ear training, sight reading and understanding lead sheets. All will be in the best interest of the student in order to focus them toward playing the songs and styles they wish to play. Everything will be demonstrated and explained thoroughly with clarity and patience. Exercises to help the students build confidence to play parts that they can call their own will be encouraged. Drum lessons will improve the students technique and creativity while introducing the many diverse styles. Students will implement the use of the rudiments and see how they might be applied to beats or fills on the drum set. Linear patterns and four way coordination patterns will be applied for developing good coordination skills and ambidextrous discipline in advanced players. Beginners will learn to grasp a feel of straight quarter, eighth and sixteenth note beats. Shuffle and swing rhythms will be covered so the student can get a feel of grooves that are based on these concepts. Students may also learn about music and rhythms from all over the world, as they apply to all of the styles of modern music as we know it. After the basis of various rhythmic concepts are applied, then the student can reach into the field of playing over the bar line, playing in odd meters, and soloing.
