I am an experienced teacher, active and accredited member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and have experience in a variety of settings from standard private lessons to university pre-college faculty positions to summer festivals and intensives. I welcome any and all levels of pianists with the end goal of providing quality music education across the board. Whether you are hoping to go into music professionally or not, I believe that any approach to the keyboard deserves the highest level of teaching on my part. This is why my lessons are not simply 30/45/60 minutes a week but an ongoing partnership where I offer guidance and support as you explore what it is that you want within the wide and wonderful field of music. Whether this entails a professional opinion on an instrument, a safe place to express yourself, or a starting point for your artistic digital portfolio, it is my belief that our community can and will help you achieve whatever it is you set out to do.

About Tracy W.

Hello! Some quick pedigree-type qualifications: I am currently completing my Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) at USC's Thornton School of Music and graduated with my Master's from Indiana University. I also hold a BA in psychology along with a BM in piano performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory.

On to thoughts about music: I emphasize the importance of a well-rounded musician and have integrated my own performance career with experience in music business, education, and non-profit advocacy/outreach. My approach to teaching follows much of this same philosophy. I draw from the classical tradition for technique, posture, and general musicianship but lessons are also a partnership where students may choose additional aspects of what they are most interested in, whether that be songwriting, mixed media, composition, etc. Music (and the skills that learning an instrument gives you) touch almost every part of the human experience and my goal is to help you discover the unique ways this applies to your story. I am also a firm believer in cultivating something tangible beyond just our lessons so that your music can continue to be shared and loved. As such, my studio offers professional recordings/videos of each finished piece at no additional cost so that you can start your own artistic digital portfolio; a great way to learn from yourself and see how far you have progressed.

I started taking lessons with Tracy a few months ago after many years of playing with bad habits and technique, and I've been making big improvements from day one. She's incredibly patient and fun, and I'm certain she is a great instructor for children as well. I cannot recommend Tracy highly enough.

Awesome online lessons' experience with Tracy. Vibrant teaching and effective interaction! Now my daughter loves playing piano and practicing more every day. In addition, the bonus is her excellent notes to students for after-class use. Clear structure and highlighted key points so as to follow up easily for daily practice.

Complete novice who has always wanted to play piano since young age, However being completely uncoordinated I was never able to find a teacher to take the time and work with me. Tracy is incredibly well prepared and was able to break down every process into a easily digestible portion. Taking time to correct my technique all while still listening to what I wanted to learn/get out of the lessons as a whole. Probably the most professional and helpful music professional I have had the pleasure of working with.

My daughter has been taking piano lesson with Tracy since she was five. Tracy is truly a great teacher. She is an outstanding pianist (if you have watched her YouTube performance, you will see her amazing techniques), very patient with young kids, and very good at explaining complicated music theories to kids. She is also very organized. This becomes very important now with virtual piano lessons. She sends lesson notes after each lesson where she write down a detailed weekly practice plan. This is very helpful for parents with little piano experience themselves.
