I am a professional Double Bass player with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. As a proficient multi-instrumentalist, I am able to teach all stringed instruments, such as the violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele. With experience coaching and mentoring students who have a passion for songwriting, it has helped them become effective, dynamic, and knowledgeable songwriters. I teach strings to students of all different ages and proficiency levels. I am a classically trained musician with 19 years experience, with 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. My competency and versatility as a musician has given me the opportunity to work with children in the public school systems, after school programs, recreational centers, local events, and statewide competitions and conventions. Every instrument has a unique timbre, so I teach students what their chosen instrument's role is and what it's specific sound is used for. I believe that "practice makes progress," so I encourage each student to practice consistently and efficiently. By applying foundational techniques during practice and performance, it will aid in their continual growth and progress as a musician. Depending on the goals and preference of the student - no matter the instrument - I highly encourage each of my students to learn to read music/chord sheets, understand and maneuver their instruments fluidly, and challenge themselves to pursue music in any and every way they can. I firmly believe that learning technique and theoretical knowledge is essential to learning any instrument and any style. Focused practice sessions and learning how to listen actively instead of passively will shape a well-rounded musician, and as the teacher, achieving this with every student is my goal and my passion.
