    About Tomisha B.

    An accomplished educator, Dr. Tomisha P. has led superior instrumental and vocal ensembles on the public-school level and in higher education in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Washington. A native of Carrollton, Virginia, she received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Virginia State University in 2005, a Master of Music Education degree from Norfolk State University in 2011, and has completed additional coursework at Capella University, Southern University of Utah, and the University of Illinois-Chicago. Dr. Tomisha received her Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2020. Prior to her appointment as Director of Bands at Basic Academy of International Studies (Henderson, NV), Dr. Tomisha served as Director of Instrumental Music and Coordinator of Music Education at The University of Mount Olive (Mount Olive, NC), as Director of Bands at Garfield High School (Seattle, WA), and as Director of University Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Clark Atlanta University. She holds the distinct honor of being the first female band director at Clark Atlanta University, and in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Dr. Tomisha has also served as Associate Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Mississippi Valley State University (2016-2017), and Director of University Bands at Elizabeth City State University (2011-2016).

    The National Band Association, founded on September 11, 1960, is the largest professional organization for bands in the world. It was organized for the purpose of promoting the musical and educational significance of bands and is dedicated to the attainment of a high level of excellence for bands and band music. NBA is an organization open to anyone and everyone interested in bands, regardless of the length of experience, type of position held, or the specific level at which one works. The membership roster includes men and women from every facet of the band world. NBA is today’s professional organization for band directors, and it stands ready to serve all members of the association through a variety of projects and initiatives.

    Tau Beta Sigma is a highly respected pre-eminent music organization comprised of over 160 collegiate chapters and more than 3,800 collegiate members with a balanced representation of women and men. Strong leadership thrives throughout our organization and we have a solid financial foundation. We cultivate and sponsor a variety of music education programs for our diverse membership and work closely with collegiate band directors. Our alumni association is an integral part of Tau Beta Sigma, promoting diversity efforts, social networking and assisting members in enhancing their professional leadership and employment possibilities after graduation from college.
