About Tomilee D.

Tomilee Deatherage, the director of Bidwell School of Music, has been teaching music for more than 20 years. She enjoys utilizing a variety of instructional methods in both private and group settings Tomilee designed a unique studio in 1999, which incorporates technology to further enhance her student’s theory and ear training. Her style of piano instruction includes not only teaching BY NOTE but the use of a personally developed method by which she works with students on playing songs BY EAR. She was certified as an instructor through the Music Teachers' Association of California. She is an accompanist for soloist, choir and vocal groups while also performing for weddings and various ceremonies. She has been a licensed Kindermusik educator working with children as young as 6 months of age. Tomilee has worked with children and adults in both private and public school settings. She has a passion for music and seeing her students succeed.

We use a method that engages students in today's world of technology. Students of 4 come together weekly, learning at their own pace but having the benefits of the group structure. Students learn how to play by note and to have a solid theory background. Playing by ear and using chords is extremely rewarding as well. Tomilee has created her own method to teach you chord theory and how to apply it to playing by ear or to lead sheets. Games are incorporated in our lessons and we have "Piano Band" ensemble time! We believe learning should be fun and creative!
