I began my partnership with TakeLessons™ in 2009. My teaching style is relaxed, offers a project-based curriculum, tailored to best fit the student's needs and schedule when possible.

As a certified English teacher in curriculum and instruction, I ensure all my lessons are personalized for each student. Previously an elementary and post-secondary teacher, my concentration was helping students reach their full potential in the shortest amount of time. Meanwhile allowing online forums allow the students to relax and take in all the information through independent practice, modeling, and recall.


It's imperative that the student understands phonics as well as the parts of speech, i.e., nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, etc.

As an ESL teacher, I develop an individual curriculum for all my students. I take pride in providing my students a project-based learning experience each lesson so that my students take on an active role in all my classes.

Students receive a step by step lesson plan or book with each lesson

The study focuses on a specific aspect of language use, e.g., life skills, literacy, or vocational and workplace English competencies. Both approaches involve teaching students basic English skills, such as listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Lessons are based on the Common Core State Standards

Tom has taught my daughter and son since this winter. He is very experienced and knowledgeable. He keeps his lesson effective, engaging and fun. My kids are able to stay focus and overcome their fear of writing. We definitely plan to keep working with Tom.

Tom’s lessons are packed with fun games and activities, e.g., interactive PowerPoint, whiteboard, rubrics, videos. My daughters ability and confidence rose significantly over the past month, partially due to understanding what’s required and knowing what’s on the Common Core Standards. I think this should be explained to all students.

I enjoyed my lessons with Tom and felt I was making progress with my pronunciation issues. Unfortunately, we had some scheduling conflicts and had to stop our sessions. I think he is a great teacher and would resume the lessons, once our schedules line up again.

Tom has been pretty good at figuring out my speech production issues and working through a correction plan to get the right sounds out. Also, has been very flexible about scheduling which has been very helpful.

Thanks to Tom, I passed my exams. Grammar was a big problem. Tom gave me tips and suggestions on using nouns, pronouns, and prepositions within a sentence. Meanwhile the lessons improved my confidence and ability in speaking.

Tom is a very good English teacher. I have problems understanding English literature very often because I am not a native speaker and Tom helped me with patience understanding English literature from context, background of the author and writing habits. Through his instructions I can finally appreciate the beauty of English literature like I appreciate the literature works in my mother tongue. From Shakespeare to Mark Twain I travelled through ages and time when I read, think about and ponder upon their masterpieces. Most importantly I am able to understand them, and it feels amazing.
