The goal of an ESL program is to improve the student's level of English. ESL classes teach different language skills depending on students' English abilities, interests, and needs. All programs teach the following: conversational English, grammar, reading, listening comprehension, writing, and vocabulary. The aims and objectives of an ESL (English as a Second Language) lesson will vary depending on the level and specific needs of the students. However, some common goals that an ESL lesson may aim to achieve include: Improving students' proficiency and fluency in English: This includes helping students to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the language. Building students' vocabulary and grammar knowledge: This includes teaching students new words, phrases, and grammar structures, as well as providing opportunities for students to practice using them. Developing students' communicative competence: This includes helping students to develop their ability to use the language effectively in different contexts and for different purposes, such as social interactions, academic discussions, and professional communication. Enhancing students' cultural awareness: This includes exposing students to different aspects of the cultures where English is spoken and helping students to understand and appreciate the cultural context in which the language is used. Preparing students for specific goals: Some classes may have a specific focus, such as academic or business English or test preparation. Promoting self-directed learning: encouraging students to take an active role in their language learning process and to develop strategies for self-study and independent practice. Creating a positive and engaging learning environment: ensuring the class is interactive, dynamic, and motivating for the students to learn. These aims and objectives will guide the planning and delivery of the lessons and will be used to evaluate the student's progress and achievement. My specialty! Take a lesson with a native English speaker! I help dedicated students and professionals improve their communication skills for every occasion. I provide the experience and encouragement needed, by assisting students in the advancement of their studies, careers, travels, or just for the fun of it. I began my partnership with TakeLessons™ in 2009. My teaching style is relaxed and offers a project-based curriculum, tailored to best fit the student's needs and schedule when possible. As a certified English teacher in curriculum and instruction, I ensure all my lessons are personalized for each student. Previously an elementary and post-secondary teacher, my concentration was helping students reach their full potential in the shortest amount of time. I offer quality online instruction that allows the students to relax and take in all the information using independent practice, modeling, and recall. ESL/ELL AP/ACT/SAT STUDENTS It's imperative that the student understands phonics as well as the parts of speech and sentence structure, i.e., syntax, tone, diction, use of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, etc. Students receive a step-by-step lesson plan or book with each lesson The study focuses on a specific aspect of language use, e.g., life skills, literacy, or vocational and workplace English competencies. Both approaches involve teaching students basic English skills, such as listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Lessons are based on the Common Core State Standards - Pronunciation techniques and tips - Independent practice for the workplace - Quizzes, textbooks, videos, and computer lessons - Basic communication with real-life interactions - Personalized Google Doc - Instant feedback! Classes place awareness of the students' culture and recognition of cultural differences which might affect a student's ability to acclimate to their English-speaking environment. We discuss goals to determine interest, learning style, and objectives - together creating a lesson plan designed for the individual student. Tom helped me work on my resume/cover letter and was a great help. He gave a lot of helpful suggestions of resources to use, and stays in touch over email in between lessons. It feels like he is always thinking of helpful things to send his students throughout the day.
