Beginning at a young age, I have self-taught myself a handful of instruments and continue to collect them in my studio. Students are welcome to try out any instruments they want to, ranging from cello to hammered dulcimer to guzheng. Over the last 5 years I have performed music professionally, recording multiple albums and playing upwards of a hundred and some shows a year. My personal approach to learning a new instrument is through creative experimentation through recording. Simple songs can be constructed and recorded using the myriad of instruments that I have. This not only enables the student to learn the instrument of their choice, but also experiment with other instruments and learn by ear how to construct different parts and listen to how they work together. This, combined with basic theory, I think makes for a fun exploratory way to learn. Plus, students have a recording to take home and practice to.
